Angry Films has optioned Lauren McLaughlin’s young-adult book series “Cycler.”
The series centers on Jill, a suburban teenager who becomes a boy for four days each month. Her male counterpart has all the male organs, if you know what I mean, as well as all the hormones and fantasies that go along with them. Jill has managed to maintain a normal teenage existence until “Jack, tired of being locked in his room, begins to escape, causing damage to her social life.”

Another adaptation of a "young-adult" book - does this one also include screaming girls? Angryfilms, run by Don Murphy and Susan Montford, has picked up the rights to Lauren McLaughlin's Cycler series of novels, which tell the story of Jill, a suburban teenager who for four days each month turns into Jack, complete with male anatomy and 17-year-old-boy fantasies. Jill has maintained her life of ordinary teenage worries, such as going to the prom and dealing with crush, but that changes when Jack, tired of being locked in his room, begins to escape, causing damage to her social life. Now that sounds like it could be quite an intense movie. Cycler was first published last year and was followed by a sequel, Re-Cycler, with more sequels on the way. The books have won praise for their unique handling of teen sexuality, with the second being nominated for the American...

Cycler is the title of Lauren McLaughlin's novel for young adults and it puts a new spin on the ups-and-downs of being a teenage girl. Jill McTeague, the book's protagonist, lives a seemingly normal life until her body undergoes a change each month. No, it's not what you're thinking as it turns out Jill turns into Jack, a male version of herself complete with all the male plumbing and thoughts for the opposite sex, for four days each month...right during Jill's monthly menstrual cycle. Jill has no other option but to lock Jack in her room during each change, causing the male side of her (who has a different mind than Jill) to become increasingly frustrated. This sounds more frightening than turning into a wolf during the full moon.
McLaughlin's book came out last year and a sequel called Re-Cycler has just been published. Now the movie rights...

I'm worried that because of the Twilight craze seeping into our pores and controlling our minds, we'll start assuming that any movie about a teenage girl and her hormones is automatically going to be a waste of time. But we live in a world in which Mean Girls and Clueless have existed, and I am confident that one day we'll get a movie about a teenage heroine who isn't as hideously boring as Bella Swan. And if the girl happens to turn into a guy for a few days every month, maybe that will help things. That's the bizarre but intriguing premise behind the young adult book series Cycler, written by Lauren McLaughlin and recently picked up by Angryfilms. According to THR the main character, Jill, transforms into Jack for four days each month, and while she's successfully been able to hide in her room during the Jack period, he's...

Lauren McLaughlin's novel Cycler, about a young woman named Jill who, for four days every month, morphs genders and turns into Jack, is coming to the screen. According to Empire.Com's write-up, Jill winds up worried that Jack will crush on Jill's best friend -- and that Jill won't be able to give the crush up after she morphs back to her female self.
Because this is a mainstream movie, you know she will.
I swear there was an indie film that followed this very premise just a few years ago. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Zoo-something....

Angryfilms plans to bring Lauren McLaughlin's Cycler series to the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The novels tell the story of Jill, a suburban teenager who for four days each month turns into Jack, complete with male anatomy and 17-year-old-boy fantasies. Jill has maintained her life of ordinary teenage worries, such as going to the prom and dealing with crush, but that changes when Jack, tired of being locked in his room, begins to escape, causing damage to her social life.
On McLaughlin's website, she explains that Cycler began as a screenplay, ironically enough, and that she later felt compelled to turn it into a book.
...I honestly believe Cycler is the story I was born to tell. As for where the original idea came from, I can only answer that it came from the same place all of my stories come from, the question: what if?...

You know what you're getting with most teen novels: boy meets girl, girl isn't sure how she feels about boy, boy and girl figure it out. Occasionally there's a vampire thrown in for good measure, but in Cycler, which has just been optioned for the screen, there's a different twist: for four days every month Jill turns into Jack,Written by Lauren McLaughlin, a former Lionsgate executive who's already written the screenplay and a sequel, the story provides an unusual twist on the "time of the month", with teenager Jill worried about who'll ask her to prom but also concerned that Jack might turn up on that day instead. What's more, Jack has a crush on Jill's best friend and Jack's personality is getting stronger and stronger, lingering in Jill's head even after he's gone. It's an intriguing concept, one that goes a step further than the slightly similar body-swop...
