any sign of embarrassment".
Created the role of Catherine Holly in Tennessee Williams' off-Broadway production
of "Suddenly, Last Summer.".
Won two Obies, one for her role as Catharine Holly in "Suddenly, Last
Summer" and the other for "Hedda Gabler."
Made her Broadway debut in "The Long Watch" in 1952, and subsequently
appeared in "Ondine" (1954), "Eugenia" (1957), "The Legend of Lizzie"
(1959), "Moonbirds" (1959), "A Passage to India" (1962) and
"Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead" (1967).
Hawkish character actress devoted primarily to the theater who started
her career on stage in Bridgeton, Maine, in 1946.
