Born in Houston, Texas, Bart J. Mixon began his career in special
make-up effects working on local independent productions. Within a few
years he was finding work as a lab tech and on set make-up artist on
projects like A Nightmare On Elm Street, Part 2; The Texas Chainsaw
Massacre 2, and Robocop.
In 1987, Bart made the big move to Los Angeles, and soon after, he was
supervising the special make-up and creature effects for such projects
as Fright Night Part 2 and Stephen King's It. Bart has served as the
shop foreman for such notable effects houses as Rick Baker's Cinovation
Studios, the Chiodo Brothers Productions, and Fantasy II Film FX in
house make-up lab, Make-up FX Unlimited.
Bart was a co-founder of the make-up effects studio, Mixon and Ellis
FX, in 1994. For four years ME-FX created make-ups and creatures for
such projects as Men In Black, Peter Benchley's The Beast, Fargo, and
Rushmore.
In recent years, Bart has served as a project coordinator and/or
make-up artist on The Grinch, Planet of the Apes, Men in Black II, The
Ring and The Ring Two, Hellbou and X-Men 3.
Bart has been a member of Make-up Artists Local 706 since 1994, and is
a SAG puppeteer.
