- Visible in the 1960s as a balding, white-haired, tough-looking character man During the 1960s, the now-balding, white-haired Montgomery, more notably in director Don Siegel's Madigan (1968). His last screen appearance was in the series "Hunter" before retiring.
- The darkly handsome Montgomery joined Warner Bros. in 1941 and spent the next two years working in short-subjects and playing small roles in war-era films, but did not rise to leading man status. Later played "bad guy" roles on 50s TV.
- Opened a successful California real estate agency in his later years.
- Best known in the early 1950s for his co-starring status in the syndicated television series Ramar of the Jungle (1952), playing Professor Howard Ogden, friend and colleague of Jon Hall title character in the children's adventure series.
