“It’s been 30 years. Maybe it’s time to rekindle the flame of Nicole.”
Lifetime has officially announced its forthcoming docuseries on Nicole Brown Simpson, timed to the 30-year anniversary of her death. Titled The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and billed as an explosive two-night event, the four-part series will premiere June 1 and 2 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt.
Lifetime has released a trailer for the docuseries (below), which features her three sisters — Denise, Dominique and Tanya Brown — speaking about Nicole, the ex-wife of O.J. Simpson who was found murdered in 1994 outside her Brentwood condominium. Nicole and Simpson were married for seven years and shared two children, Sydney and Justin. Simpson was famously accused and acquitted of her murder, as well as the murder of Ron Goldman. The fallen football star was later found liable for both of their deaths in a 1997 civil lawsuit.
Simpson died April 10 from metastatic prostate cancer.

The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard became a massive hit for Lifetime from the moment the first episode of the docuseries debuted in January.
“It definitely surpassed even our wildest expectations,” executive producer Nicole Vogel said during a panel discussion of the series as part of Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted event. “It’s been our number one most downloaded property ever across all of A&e networks. It’s been the highest social-performing property and buzz for us across A&e networks. So, it really has been a hit.”
Vogel said Lifetime expected big things when they green lighted the series. They had every reason to be confident because Blanchard’s shocking story has captivated the nation since it first came to light almost a decade ago. There are regular true crime podcasts, and then there's "Happy Face," an endlessly disturbing 12-part deep dive into the life of a serial killer -- as told by his own daughter. The podcast from iHeartMedia first debuted in 2018, telling the harrowing story of the years Melissa Moore spent being raised by the man who would eventually become known as The Happy Face Killer. Now, a new Paramount+ series based on the same story is in the works with an intriguing cast and crew and Moore on board as an executive producer.
"Happy Face" will be the first true crime series released via the Paramount-owned streamer since 2020's "Interrogation," and only the second to date. While competing streamers like Peacock have been in the true crime adaptation game from the start (see: "Dr. Death"), Paramount+ has mostly made the "Yellowstone" extended universe its bread and butter up until this point.

Daniel Gillies is returning to The CW.
The Vampire Diaries and The Originals alum will star in Sight Unseen, a co-production between the network and CTV.
The series focuses on a "top homicide detective (Dolly Lewis) who is forced to quit the job she loves after nearly killing her partner and being diagnosed as clinically blind," according to the official logline.
"Reluctant to accept help, Tess uses an assistance app and connects with Sunny Patel (Agam Darshi), a professional seeing-eye guide and an agoraphobe living 3,000 miles away.
After losing her vision, Tess is haunted by the unsolved cases she left behind.

ABC’s ‘20/20‘ brings viewers a gripping account of how a bizarre false confession led authorities astray in the investigation of the first murder committed by Keith Hunter Jesperson, infamously known as the “Happy Face Killer.” This two-hour program, airing on Friday, August 25 from 9:01 to 11:00 p.m. Edt, delves into the chilling story of how Laverne Pavlinac’s fabricated confession diverted attention from Jesperson, enabling him to remain at large and claim the lives of at least seven more women before his eventual arrest.
The False Confession That Derailed the Investigation
In 1990, after the discovery of Taunja Bennett’s body in the Columbia Gorge, 57-year-old Laverne Pavlinac confessed to police that she and her boyfriend, John Sosnovske, had committed the crime. Her detailed and convincing account led to their convictions and life sentences. However, Pavlinac’s confession turned out to be a web of lies concocted to escape an abusive relationship with Sosnovske.

Plot: The living puppet Doktor Death hacks and slashes its way through the residents and staff of a retirement home in this spin-off from Full Moon’s Puppet Master franchise.
Review: Back in 1999, Full Moon released an entry in their Puppet Master franchise that was called Retro Puppet Master. That one revealed the living puppets Andre Toulon used to fight the Nazis during World War II weren’t the first group of living puppets he had. He created the first living puppets in 1902, when he found his friends murdered and decided to transfer their souls into the bodies of the puppets they used for their shows at the Theatre Magique in Paris, France so they could battle the undead servants of the god Sutekh. Toulon and those first puppets obviously went through a lot in the early decades of the 20th century and the puppets weren’t around by the end of the 1930s…...

New viral variants of the Covid-19 coronavirus are on the way, claimed Moderna scientists and executives in a Thursday virtual investor event, as reported by Barrons.
“As the virus spreads, it is rapidly mutating,” the company’s chief scientific officer, Melissa Moore, said on the call. “Some of these new viral strains appear to be even more transmissible than the original strain… We already know that some of these new strains are less susceptible to neutralization by our current vaccine.”
The company is constantly testing its vaccine against the new variants, she said. But that complex work lags their emergence.
“The shortest time from the detection of a variant of concern to preclinical immunogenicity readout against a panel of pseudoviruses is approximately 2 to 3 months,” said Guillaume Stewat-Jones, a Moderna scientist who works as associate director of antigen design and selection on their infectious disease team. “And new viral variants are...

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that he will introduce a proposal that would finally legalize marijuana in New York state.
“I’m announcing a proposal to legalize cannabis and create an equitable adult-use cannabis program in Nys,” Cuomo tweeted Wednesday. “This program will generate much-needed revenue, while allowing us to support those that have been most harmed by decades of failed cannabis prohibition.”
Under the proposal, New York would establish a new Office of Cannabis Management, which would oversee both the recreational program and the state’s preexisting medical marijuana program.

Despite what felt like sea-changing momentum, marijuana legalization in New York and New Jersey have met serious roadblocks — and at almost exactly the same time. Just a few months ago, it had seemed all but certain in both states, with supportive governors backing progressive legalization poised to pass Democratic-controlled statehouses. Then, in the span of just a few days in late March, both states saw their efforts fall apart. Officials remain optimistic, but refuse to give a timetable for possible legalization.

Evil Lives Here examines the crimes of ‘The Happy Face Killer’ Keith Jesperson and how close his daughter Melissa Moore came to becoming one of his victims. Keith Hunter Jesperson was born in 1955 in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada and had a fairly difficult childhood, with a violent and hard drinking father. His disturbing behaviour started fairly young, with torturing small animals by beating and strangling them, something he’d later say he wanted to do to people. He also tried to kill one of his friend when they were around ten, attacking him and having to be pulled off by his father. […]

This week, we’ve got a handful of new titles coming our way, but also a few retro releases too, including the Roger Corman-produced cult classic Night of the Cobra Woman.
Other new titles arriving on June 17th include the indie sci-fi film Almost Human from Joe Begos, Brett Simmon’s The Monkey’s Paw, as well as the recent remake 13 Sins directed by Daniel Stamm. Teen Wolf Season 3 Part Two makes its home debut this week too, as well as the 20th anniversary DVD edition of Invasion of the Scream Queens.
