Andrew traces the influence of a classic Seventh Doctor serial on today's Doctor Who, and looks at what series 8 can learn from it...
Previously on Den Of Geek, we looked at The Ark in Space and its relatively drastic shake up of Doctor Who’s tone following the Pertwee era. This time we’re looking at a different set of circumstances for the show, at the start of its twenty-fifth anniversary season in 1988.
Doctor Who had been in trouble since at least 1985. Cancelled, then reprieved due to the outcry, it hadn’t been helped by the ambitious but flawed Trial Of A Time Lord story/season, which probably didn’t endear itself to the casual viewer with its fourteen-episode narrative and Gallifrey-heavy intrigue. After its trial, the verdict eventually came back from the BBC to sack Colin Baker and make the show more child-friendly.
Script Editor Eric Saward had already departed acrimoniously,...

Andrew counts down Doctor Who's top 10 Dalek stories, from Invasion Earth to The Power of the Daleks...
A cosmos without the Daleks scarcely bears thinking about.
Without the mutated remnants of the seemingly indestructible planet Skaro, we don't know if Doctor Who would have survived. If Terry Nation had dreamt up the Voord to menace Barbara in the series fifth episode, Den of Geek may well be paying tribute to Doctor Who as an obscure cult concern, cherished by a few but forgotten by many. Instead, we do things like this.
This list is not limited to the television series, because Doctor Who isn't limited to the television series. And hey, why not use our Comments Section to add your own list or express disbelief that I've not included Evil of the Daleks in mine?
10. Daleks – Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D.
There's something eternally...

With "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann's pop dramatic adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" in theaters this week, what better way to revisit the themes of F. Scott Fitzgerald jazz-era novel than with an 8-bit rowing game.
Slate's Chris Kirk, Andrew Morgan, and Forrest Wickman are responsible for "The Great Gatsby: The Video Game," whose very literary/literal punchline is, lacking for a better word "cute."

This is a bit of genius. Disrupting the disruption. Although sites like Indiegogo are normally used to raise front-end money based on potential, filmmaker Andrew Morgan is using the platform to sell a finished product. He’s releasing his documentary/fiction blend Yes No Yes Yes Go via the crowdfunding site at $1 for a 720p download, $5 for a 1080p and $20 for a DVD. There are other options as well. Your enticement to donate is instant access to the movie itself. As of now, Yes No Yes Yes Go has scored a little over $600 (and they’ll give around $72 of that to Indiegogo and to credit card processing), but it’s unclear how it would have done on something more traditional like iTunes. And, yes, we’re now considering iTunes as a more traditional indie distribution method. Flipping a crowdfunding site’s intended use to find an audience for a finished film hasn’t been done nearly enough...

Andrew Morgan is an experimental filmmaker, with his feature debut Yes No Yes Yes Go a sort of documentary-fiction hybrid, so it's fitting that he's also decided to release the film in an experimental way. It's a variation of what we've seen before, releasing a film online for a pay-per-view fee, but instead of using an iTunes-style platform, Morgan has opted to cut out almost all middlemen and distribute the feature direct to his audience via Indiegogo. So instead of going to his Indiegogo page to pay money to support a film that might not come out for a year or two, interested viewers can either buy a basic HD download they can watch immediately or choose from a bunch of packages all the way up...

[Our thanks to Dejan Ognjanovic for conducting the following interview.]We have covered upcoming indie feature Arkham Sanitarium a fair bit already and now that shooting of the film is over, its director Andrew Morgan is subjected to a torturous examination in order for us to decide whether his Lovecraftian anthology is blasphemous or respectful to the Great Old One. The result is the exclusive, illuminating and quite promising interview below. The first and most obvious questions would be: a) why Lovecraft? and b) why did you choose these specific stories?I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft's work and I've always been fascinated by his stark, uncaring vision of the universe - his stories are really bleak and that's something we wanted to capture in Arkham Sanitarium.The...
