An ad for a McDonald’s cheeseburger lunch deal called “Amazing” has won the single and overall prize in round four of Commercial Radio Australia’s Siren Awards.
Written by Cameron Hoelter and Richard Morgan from Ddb Sydney, the ad features a deadpan exchange between a customer and a server and was inspired by a movie scene.
“There was a great scene in the movie Uncle Buck where John Candy and Macaulay Culkin have a really dry, rapid-fire question and answer conversation and we thought it might funny to do something similar in a radio ad,” they said in a joint statement.
The “Amazing” ad was winner of round four of five of the Siren Awards and goes into final for the Gold Siren to be announced in May.
The Gold Siren winner will receive airfares, accommodation and tickets to this year’s Cannes Advertising Lions Festival in June.

303Lowe has hired Richard Morgan as Ecd after a brief stint at Ddb Sydney.
Nick Cleaver, CEO of 303Lowe said of the appointment:
“We are thrilled to have Richard join us. He is an accomplished Creative Director with the rare experience of having been a CD of both a digital and mainstream agency. His work is outstanding.”
Morgan said: “303Lowe is building a tremendous reputation for producing effective, award winning work, as its recent Effie and D&Ad performances show. They have successfully built a business model that combines local ownership with international agency partnership. There aren’t many opportunities in this market like that. For me it’s the best of both worlds.”
303Lowe has just been appointed to Unilever’s Continental brand as digital agency.

Flo the Online Pamperer
Reckitt Benckiser has mobilised two of its brands in the fight against ‘man-flu’.
Strepsils and Lemsip have been used in combination in the Online Pamperer, where an elderly woman called Flo can text men to buy medicine, play them music clips, or cheer them up with a trip down memory lane.
The online campaign, created by Holler Sydney, uses Facebook Connect to put men’s Facebook pictures inside interactive video. The Flo character was brought to life by director Adam Blaiklock from Flying Fish.
Holler boss Mike Hill, said: “When guys get sick, we tend to be demanding and want constant attention. While we battle a level of sickness others couldn’t possibly comprehend, our partners tend to suffer in the fallout. Flo’s here to unburden women, and pander to afflicted men.”

Geek culture is growing, and the makers of Game of Thrones, Catwoman and Grimdark novels must realise they're not just catering for a bearded audience
As a fan of fantasy fiction, it's been entertaining watching mainstream cultural critics' baffled responses to Game of Thrones, which has surprised many by becoming the biggest show on TV this year. Gina Bellafante of the New York Times was among the first to come a cropper when she made the rash statement that no woman could ever enjoy the show, only to find herself hounded across the internet by legions of female fantasy fans.
Last week, neo-socialist enfant terrible Laurie Penny weighed in on the show with a confused rant of its own epic proportions, which seemed to conclude that despite being violent, sexist and racist it was Ok to enjoy the show in the same detached ironic way you might enjoy, say, a political protest.

The newly minted Mythology Entertainment formed by Brad Fischer, Laeta Kalogridis and James Vanderbilt, has obtained the movie rights to Richard Morgan’s science fiction novel Altered Carbon. Initially the film adaptation of Altered Carbon was to be developed by Warner Bros. and Joel Silver back in 2006, but has since been snatched up by Mythology Entertainment.
Variety reports that Fischer, Kalogridis and Vanderbilt will be producing the film, while Mike Medavoy and Arnie Messer will be executive producers. Kalogridis who has worked on films such as Shutter Island and Avatar will taking on the task of adapting Altered Carbon for the big screen along with David Goodman.
First published in 2002, Altered Carbon is described as a “hardboiled science fiction novel.” Set in a cyberpunk dystopian world, approximately five hundred years in the future, human personalities can be stored digitally and downloaded into new bodies, referred to as sleeves. Most people...

Richard Morgan's Altered Carbon sci-fi novel is getting a new shot at being turned into a movie. Mythology Entertainment has purchased the screen rights to the 2002 novel, as well as the two sequels that followed.
Mythology is a new production company owned by producer Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and screenwriters James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island). All three will work on producing the Altered Carbon film.
Morgan's book is set four centuries from today. Technology gives humans the ability to record their consciousness and download it across light years. When someone dies, be it by accident or murder, they simply have their self downloaded into a new body which has all of their memories up to the last recording prior to their death.
Takeski Kovacs is a ex-special forces soldier who has himself downloaded back to Earth and into a body of a former police detective.

Mythology Entertainment has acquired feature rights to Richard Morgan's 2002 post-cyberpunk sci-fi novel "Altered Carbon" says Variety.
The story is set in a future where consciousness can be digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine. The sacks essentially work as a back-up drive for the mind, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies.
The main character is Takeshi Kovacs, a trained soldier downloaded from an off-world prison and into the body of a disgraced cop. The download was done by a highly influential aristocrat who's convinced he was murdered and wants the soldier to find out the truth.
"Shutter Island" scribe Laeta Kalogridis will adapt the novel along with David Goodman. Kalogridis, Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt will produce. The project was previously setup at Silver Pictures.

Richard Morgan's thriller Altered Carbon may be hitting the screen. Rights to the novel have gone to Mythology Entertainment.
Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) and David Goodman will adapt. The former created Mythology with Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt.
The book's publiser describes the story like this: In the twenty-fifth century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person’s consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or “sleeve”) making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

The long gestating rumors that a Syndicate reboot was in the works have been confirmed today through the news being put up too early at EA’s online store Origin! Crysis: Legion
Written by Peter Watts | Published by: Titan Books | Format: Trade Paperback, 400 pages
“Manhattan is under new management. They’re not from around here.
Welcome to the Big Apple, son. Welcome to the city that never sleeps: invaded by monstrous fusions of meat and machinery, defended by a private army that makes Blackwater look like the Red Cross, ravaged by a disfiguring plague that gifts its victims with religious rapture while it eats them alive. You’ve been thrown into this meat grinder without warning, without preparation, without a clue.??Your whole squad was mowed down the moment they stepped onto the battlefield. And the chorus of voices whispering in your head keeps saying that all of this is on you: that you and you alone might be able to turn the whole thing around if you only knew what the hell was going on.
You’d like to help.

28 year old Richard Thomas was featured having his dreams dashed on tonight’s X Factor show.

He said:
For my job I play a lot of clubs and pubs. I enjoy it but a lot of clubs have closed down and it’s getting hard for artists but I don’t know anything else. I wouldn’t have met my wife if I hadn’t of sang cos I met her at a place I was singing. My family are very supportive. My wife knows what I’m doing it for. I said to her, if I’m successful then we’re going to have the life we really want. I really want to do better for myself and my family.

Richard Morgan, who is going to be penning the Crysis 2 story, has a problem with Halo’s storyline, in fact, he thinks it’s “bullshit”. Morgan’s thoughts don’t just stop there, he had quite a few things to say about Halo, and you can bet they aren’t very nice at all.
“I don’t like Halo at all. The reason that its fiction doesn’t work has nothing to do with the fact that you don’t get to see Master Chief’s face, it’s because of lines like ‘Okay … I’m gonna get up there and kill those guys’. Crysis 2 writer Richard Morgan has described Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as an "immense disappointment". Speaking to Cvg, the British science fiction writer claimed that Infinity Ward's first-person shooter exhibited all the hallmarks of "bad storytelling". Morgan said that Modern Warfare 2 was also a "massive step down" from its acclaimed predecessor, not only in its story but also its gameplay. "I thought Modern Warfare 2 was an immense disappointment. [The storyline] made no sense. It was totally implausible. It doesn't resolve. Basically, all the things that bad storytelling does," he said. "I just think they were way too impressed with themselves and that's always a danger. It's just unfortunate." Ouch. Richard Morgan (Altered Carbon, Woken Furies), the writer signed on to pen the story for Crysis 2, had a couple of harsh words regarding the multi-billion dollar Modern Warfare 2, going so far as to call the game an “immense disappointment”.
