Maz Jobrani’s life could be coming to the small screen as an animated comedy.
Variety has learned exclusively that Fox has commissioned a pilot presentation and script for an animated comedy based on Jobrani and his family. The series would follow three generations of immigrants adjusting to life in America while their neighbors must also adjust.
Jobrani would star in the series and is attached to write and executive produce along with Timothy Stack, Jim Stein, and David Morgasen. Courteney Cox will also executive produce. 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment will produce.
Jobrani is primarily known for his stand up career, having starred in the stand up specials “The Axis of Evil Comedy Tour,” “Brown & Friendly,” “I Come in Peace,” “I’m Not a Terrorist, But I’ve Played One on TV,” and “Immigrant.” As an actor, he recently starred in the CBS comedy “Superior Donuts.” His other onscreen roles include “Descendants,...

Today Yahoo revealed its slate of original comedy slate, which includes shows from Seth Morris, Saturday Night Live writer Mike OBrien, and Ben Stiller's Red Hour Digital. All the shows in new slate will debut on Yahoo Screen, the site’s revamped video hub that launched last fall with a slate of original programming including shows from mega-star Tom Hanks and America’s Funniest Home Videos producer Vin di Bona. Rodgers is producing "Eden" as the first film under her Indiana Girl Productions. Rodgers (“Dahmer”), founder of Indiana Girl Productions, announced today the casting of Jason Jones (“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”) and Rachael Harris (“The Hangover”) as leads in the satirical comedy, “Gates of Eden.” Both Jones and Harris are represented by United Talent Agency. Lin Shaye (“There’s Something About Mary,” “Kingpin”) co-stars. The feature-length indie is produced by Rodgers and marks the first film under her Indiana Girl Productions banner. “Gates of Eden” is the theatrical directorial debut of David Morgasen, is written by John Stansifer, and Gina Rugolo is co-producer. Okay, so I’m with the majority here. This show is funny. I’ve been watching David Blaine’s Street Magic since the beginning and waiting with anticipation as new eps come out. And the stalwart casting of Mitch Stilpa as David Blaine and Mikey Day (Kath & Kim) as Idiot One and Michael Naughton as Idiot Two is the bread and butter of this show. The three La comedy vets make up Groundlings-trained Those Lil Rabbits, who's channel on YouTube is definitely worth checking out. This show is like comfort food for me, ham and cheese, I know what I’m coming for and I know I’m gonna like it. But then they go and try to fix what ain’t broke.
