Whether you like it or not, Sherlock Holmes is the man “who never lived and will never die.” Ever since being created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in 1887, the iconic detective has been ever-present in popular culture: for 137 years, Sherlock Holmes has been investigating mind-boggling cases, uncovering conspiracies, and catching criminals. And he’s not stopping any time soon, we’ll tell you that much!
Sherlock Holmes Will Be Back on Pages
94 years after Conan Doyle’s death, the author’s descendants recently gave their blessing to writer Gareth Rubin (The Turnglass & The Winter Agent). Rubin will write a new book series about Sherlock Holmes, but this time, it won’t be just the iconic detective under the spotlight: titled Holmes and Moriarty, the new books will give his archnemesis just as much attention and time.

Sherlock Movie ft Benedict Cumberbatch. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
The last episode of BBC’s Sherlock aired in 2017. The detective series is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. The British detective series stars Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role and Martin Freeman as Doctor John Watson. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat created the series.
When Sherlock ended with season 4, fans demanded the makers give them a fifth season. It will be seven years, and the hope for another season is only diminishing. However, the show’s co-creator, Mark Gatiss (who also plays Mycroft Holmes), revealed that he is interested in bringing the story to the big screen. Instead of a series, he would like to take the story further with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in a movie. But there’s an issue—read to know what.

Andrew Scott’s latest venture, the Netflix series Ripley, has made a striking debut with a similar rating among both critics and viewers.
Based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley, the monochrome series unfolds the tale of conman and serial killer Tom Ripley, portrayed by Scott, as he orchestrates schemes for wealth in 1960s Italy.
Along with Scott as Ripley, the cast of the series include Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood.
Scott gained prominence for his roles in Fleabag and BBC’s “Sherlock,” notably as Jim Moriarty.
His portrayal in the 2023 drama All of Us Strangers earned him widespread acclaim.
Now Scott appears to have another hit with the Netflix series Ripley.

Andrew Scott has played many a villain down the years but in Netflix’s Ripley he is trying to draw the line, and he has rejected comparisons with his BAFTA-winning turn as the evil Jim Moriarty in Sherlock.
Speaking on the BBC this morning, the All of us Strangers star said he will use the eight-episode TV series version of Patricia Highsmith’s novel to convince the audience that Ripley is so much more than a con man.
“It does feel different [to playing Moriarty],” he told the Today program. “As Moriarty I felt like I was playing a villain and for some reason I retreat against calling Ripley a villain. He’s an anti-hero and it’s up to me to make the audience know what it’s like to be Ripley, not to be a victim of Tom Ripley. We should empathize with him. He is the protagonist in this.

The New Sherlock Holmes In Sherlock & Daughter Series (Picture Credit: Facebook)
Many people worldwide are waiting for an update on Sherlock Season 5. The British mystery crime series stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the lead roles. The last season was premiered in 2017. Many have come to acceptance that there won’t be a fifth season. Well, chances are that’s true. But The CW has announced a spin-off series titled Sherlock & Daughter, which might excite the fans of the fictional detective.
As reported by Deadline, the series will have Sherlock, a young girl named Amelia, as his daughter and even Moriarty. So it’s not going to be a melodramatic father-daughter series. The premise will be about a young American girl, Amelia, arriving in London after her mother’s murder. She learns that her father is a famous detective. Two of Ireland's national treasures, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, are gearing up for their upcoming film "All of Us Strangers." The indie film, directed by queer British filmmaker Andrew Haigh, will see the pair of esteemed actors getting close after a chance encounter changes everything. If Haigh's previous projects, including "Weekend" and "Lean on Pete," are anything to go by, it's likely to be another LGBTQ+ film that needs to be on your watch list.
Oscar nominee Mescal and Emmy nominee Scott are the dynamic duo in the lead roles, and they're joined by Claire Foy ("The Crown") and Jamie Bell ("Rocketman"). Foy and Bell play Scott's parents, who died when he was just 12. As he tries to write about them - and falls in love with Mescal's character - his parents visit him as ghostly presences. Nov. 27, 2007, was a hot and humid Tuesday in Manila, Philippines, and David Bunevacz was getting the shit kicked out of him.
He had been invited to the home of one of his partners in a recent cosmetic surgery venture, the Beverly Hills 6750 clinic in Makati City, he later told authorities, according to records of legal proceedings in the Philippines. Just after noon, he pulled up in his black Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Before he could even step out of his car, however, he was unceremoniously dragged from the driver’s seat and ordered inside.

A new series based on Sherlock Holmes is in development... but there’s a catch.
Titled Watson, the new TV show will reportedly not feature the deerstalker-wearing detective as a character at all.
Instead, the programme will focus solely on the exploits of Holmes’ dutiful assistant, Dr John H Watson.
According to TV Line, Watson, which will air on the US network CBS, follows Watson in the aftermath of Sherlock Holmes’ death.
In the series, Holmes has been killed by his criminal nemesis, Professor James Moriarty.
The show will be written by Craig Sweeny, who has some history with the subject matter, having previously written on the the CBS series Elementary.
Running from 2012 to 2019, Elementary starred Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as a gender-flipped Dr Watson. However, the new series will reportedly be entirely unrelated to this.
Deadline previously described the premise of the series as follows:...

Steven Moffat has spoken frankly on the conditions needed for him to return to making new episodes of Sherlock.
The writer and showrunner created the crime mystery series in 2010, based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Benedict Cumberbatch starred as the eponymous super-detective, while Martin Freeman featured as Dr Watson, Sherlock Holmes’s war veteran partner in mystery-solving.
Though the show only ran for 13 episodes over four seasons, it received critical acclaim and garnered several award nominations and wins, including acting Emmys for Cumberbatch and Freeman, and a writing Emmy for Moffat.
In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Tuesday (3 January), Moffat spoke on the possibility of more Sherlock episodes.
According to him, he’d be more than happy to continue the programme, as long as the series stars were interested in reprising their roles.

Steven Moffat has said “we’ve just started talking about” a second season of acclaimed BBC/Netflix drama Inside Man and reiterated that he would “start writing Sherlock tomorrow” if stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman agreed to return.
While promoting his debut West End play The Unfriend on this morning’s BBC Today program, the Sherlock creator and former Doctor Who showrunner said “we’re looking at the enthusiastically-nodded-about graphs and apparently [Inside Man] performed quite well.”
The Stanley Tucci and David Tennant-starrer, which has been available on Netflix in the U.S. since Halloween, was well received critically. While its overnight audience was low, episodes of the show in which Tucci plays a convicted killer solving crimes from an American jail consolidated on 28-day catch-up above the 5M mark.
Moffat said this is reflective of the changing nature of TV ratings.

If you're not familiar with the name Andrew Scott, you've certainly seen him in something over the past 20 years. While many viewers may associate him with Jim Moriarty in "Sherlock" or his role as the Hot Priest in "Fleabag," his roles earlier on in his career were less memorable, but they were in notable projects like "Saving Private Ryan."
Coincidentally, many of Scott's earlier roles were somewhat connected to the setting of World War II. He plays a soldier in "Saving Private Ryan" and the mini-series "Band of Brothers," a sniper in the documentary "Killing Hitler," and even appears in a made-for-tv Disney movie about the rescue of Danish Jews in "Miracle at Midnight." All of the projects were wildly different, but all tackled stories set in the World War II era with aplomb.

The game is on! Before Doctor Strange, Bilbo Baggins, or the Hot Priest, there was Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, and Jim Moriarty. It's hard to overstate the success and impact of BBC's "Sherlock" beyond merely turning its three leading men into bonafide stars. It set the precedent for modern detective stories and infused new life into the BBC's success across the pond. Though it drew ire from critics and fans alike in its later seasons, the world fell in love with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' sharp writing, likable characters, and subtle homages to Arthur Conan Doyle's original works.
Ardent fans of the series may be skeptical about doing an official ranking. After all, the show has never had a "proper" finale. Moffat and Gatiss have even spoken about their enthusiasm to return to the show for a potential fifth season. However, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman...

Before Andrew Scott became known for being the Internet's "hot priest," he was the resident pain-in-the-ass on BBC's "Sherlock."
Scott portrayed Jim Moriarty, a sadistic, psychopathic individual with Machiavellian traits and a penchant for pissing off the world-famous fictional detective. During the antagonist's occasional appearances in the series, Scott displayed his character's depravity and bone-chilling hatred for Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock; his performance highlighted their twisted rivalry and made it stand out unlike any Sherlock Holmes adaptation had done before. The on-screen criminal was conniving and evil; his lack of ethics made him vastly unpredictable, making him a formidable enemy for the detective. He's also profoundly mysterious and has a spooky aura about him — that Scott helped devise.

“Oslo” tells the story behind the iconic photo of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasir Arafat shaking hands on the White House lawn in 1993. The new TV movie from HBO dramatizes the top-secret negotiations that led to the historic Oslo Accords, a milestone in the ever-winding road to peace in the Middle East.
The movie is an adaptation of J.T. Rogers’s Tony-winning play of the same name, which centers on the Norweigan couple who brought representatives from Israel and Palestine together for the back-channel meetings that would eventually culminate in the signing of the Oslo Accords, the first formal mutual recognition between Israel and the Plo.
As with any based-on-a-true-story flick, the subjects’ lives are much fuller than a two-hour narrative can afford to flesh out. Before you stream “Oslo,” read up on some of the real people behind the historical drama.

Ask any fan about the second season of “Fleabag” and the words “Hot Priest” are bound to tumble out of their mouths at some point. That would be Andrew Scott, the actor who portrayed the sinfully attractive man of the cloth who bewitched creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s title character into a taboo sexual attraction.
The first season of the show that aired in 2016 was totally ignored by Emmy voters when it first streamed on Amazon. It could be that there was a lack of buzz at the time. But it could also be the lack of Scott in its storyline — at least that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. As for Season 2, the voters compensated for its initial brush-off by bestowing “Fleabag” with 11 nominations including five for its actresses, including Waller-Bridge who won for lead comedy series actress, and four other ladies — Sian Clifford and Olivia Colman...

The show itself is currently on indefinite hiatus and the character blew his own brains out back in 2012, but these sizeable roadblocks don’t seem to worry Andrew Scott, as he believes there’s still a chance that we’ll get to see criminal mastermind Jim Moriarty again if Sherlock ever returns.
Digital Spy caught up with the Irish actor and quizzed him about a potential comeback as the super sleuth’s nemesis. Scott remarked that the cast and crew are currently off “doing their own separate thing” at present, including creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ upcoming Dracula series, which the star says he’s “looking forward to seeing.” However, he believes the window of opportunity is still slightly ajar.
“For me, the door is never fully closed. It’s closed at the moment, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be opened at some point in the future.

Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott play nemeses on BBC’s Sherlock, as the titular Great Detective and Jim Moriarty, but in real life, it seems there isn’t any bad blood between them. Not even a little bit of theatrical competition.
You see, both actors recently landed arguably the most coveted role out there when they each played the lead in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet in different London productions. Cumberbatch portrayed the Prince of Denmark back in 2015, in a highly acclaimed adaptation at The National Theatre, while last year, Andrew Scott took on the part at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
