However, Morita once revealed in one of his interviews that he prefers anime voice acting over games because it feels more like a conversation compared to video games, where they are just normal dialogues.

However, the series, compared to his predecessor, had a few changes that fans might not have noticed. While these changes did not affect the series in any way, they surely brought a new upgrade to the series. One such change was so discreet that even the creator of the series, Kubo, could not notice.
In an interview, Kubo mentioned that the voice of the protagonist, Kurosaki Ichigo, had changed a little, and he was not able to point it out. But his family was quick to grasp it and even mentioned it to him.

Renowned cult classics have undoubtedly provided us with several mentor-like figures, but among all, Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid remains the most beloved one. But what if we say that the actor was initially turned down for the role of karate guru by the film’s producer Jerry Weintraub?
Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid
While Pat Morita being unwanted sounds totally shocking, here’s another bizarre titbit from Ralph Macchio’s The Karate Kid. According to director John G. The Karate Kid, a 1984 classic film, has remained a cornerstone of pop culture for nearly 40 years. The coming-of-age story follows Daniel Larusso, a young boy bullied by a vicious karate gang, who seeks guidance from an unlikely mentor – Mr. Miyagi, the gentle apartment maintenance man.
Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio in a still from The Karate Kid series
The story of Mr. Miyagi is deeply tragic. He was an immigrant who fought in World War II, and his wife and child died due to problems during childbirth in an American internment camp. However, the casting of Pat Morita, the actor who brought Mr. Miyagi to life, almost never happened due to a surprising reason.

It was announced today that Pat E. Johnson, who choreographed the fight scenes for the first four Karate Kid movies, has died at the age of 84.
Pat E. Johnson was a ninth-degree black belt in American Tang Soo Do and also served as vice president of the National Tang Soo Do Congress, which was created by Chuck Norris in 1973. He learned the Korean martial art while serving as a chaplain with the U.S. Army in Korea. He later met Chuck Norris at a karate tournament in Detroit and the pair quickly bonded. “He and I struck a really good bond at the time because we had both trained in Korea, we had both gotten our black belts in Korea,” Johnson said in a 2016 documentary. “He mentioned to me one time that ‘If you should ever decide to come to California, I think we could work really well together.’ I really...

Based on “The Honjin Murders”, the debut work of Seishi Yokomizo that was first serialized in 1946 and published in 1973 and the winner of the first Mystery Writers of Japan Award, “Death at an Old Mansion” is another great production by Atg, which was also screened in competition at the 26th Berlinale, in 1976.

The mystery revolves around the wealthy Ichayanagi family, and takes place in an unspecified village in Okayama. The movie begins with the wedding of Kenzo, the family's eldest son, who is marrying a simple primary school teacher, Katsuko Kubo, against the firm protest of the tradition-conscious family, as the later reaction of a drunken uncle eloquently highlights. Suzu, Kenzo's rather beautiful sister is also present and gives an impressive performance playing the koto, but is soon revealed to be mentally handicapped, as she begins to...

Implementing stage play aesthetics, and particularly excessive dialogue, is a practice that occasionally works quite well for cinema, especially when the story and the characters doing the talking are interesting. If not, though, the approach tends to become overly problematic, since the audience definitely expects different things from cinema than they do from theater. Shinya Nakata in his second film, “Ten Years + One Day” implements a similar approach. Let us see how he fares.
Ten Years + One Day is screening at Skip City International D-Cinema Festival
On a rural roadside outside of the urban centers, Harasaki and Morita reunite for the first time in ten years. The latter immediately insists on going to meet Kikushima, another girl from their common past, but the young man is reluctant. Her insistence, however, “convinces” him and the two meet Kikushima, who never actually left the village they find themselves now. There seems to...

Not many directors start out with a voice wholly their own, but Katsuhito Ishii's “Promise of August” is a strikingly unique debut from one of Japan's more singular auteurs. It has its fair share of freshman missteps, and there's an unpolished quality to the plotting and performances, but it establishes itself from the opening frame as an off-kilter comedy with a genuine point of view; a confident beginning to a decades-long career.

When an actor does such a good job at playing their role, it's hard to imagine anyone else taking their place — a testament to the casting director's final call. But it doesn't always mean that they were originally the first (or even third) choice for the role. Sometimes, the best option isn't so obvious.
Such was the case when Delphi II Productions began the process of casting Mr. Miyagi for "The Karate Kid." As the movie's star Ralph Macchio shared in his recent memoir, "Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me" (which /Film's Jenna Busch spoke to the actor about), most of the team was doubtful about the late Pat Morita's ability to play Mr. Miyagi since the relatively serious character was a big change from his previous comical roles:
"The focus was on the dramatic side of the character. Finding an actor of range and depth who would be authentic.

Thanks to a mix of irrepressible charm, a timeless rags-to-riches story of an underdog overcoming all odds, and some classic imagery that inspired countless fans and filmmakers alike, John G. Avildsen's "The Karate Kid" has remained squarely at the forefront of pop culture ever since the original movie's release in 1984. Yet even after multiple sequels of varying degrees of quality, the Netflix sequel series "Cobra Kai," and even a new movie in the works, there's just something about the magic of that original film that sets it apart and continues to drive our imaginations wild.
