As Director of the Soft Tissue Center at DISC Sports & Spine Center (DISC), Dr. Horrigan leads a multidisciplinary team of hand-selected clinicians who diagnose, treat and train some of the world's most elite athletes. He has built his practice on a foundation of diligence, dedication and trust, with the ultimate goal of providing non-surgical, muscular-skeletal options to DISC's patients. The Soft Tissue Center specializes in the diagnosis and management of sports and soft tissue injuries.
Dr. Horrigan's professional sports experience includes three years as head speed-strength and conditioning coach for the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and seven years as head speed-strength and conditioning coach for the Long Beach Ice Dogs hockey team, with three years in double-duty at team chiropractor. Additionally, he served as a club coach for USA Weightlifting from 1998 to 2005, was a member of the Sports Medicine Committee from 1997 to 2005, and is a member and past president of the Board of Directors for the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.
Sharing his expertise with Hollywood, Dr. Horrigan has provided medical and athletic performance consultation on numerous films. Most recently, he helped prepare Benicio Del Toro for his lead in the upcoming Andrea Di Stefano thriller Escobar: Paradise Lost (2014) and trained Jennifer Lawrence for her starring role in the action-filled blockbuster The Hunger Games (2012). He has also consulted on Oliver Stone's Savages (2012) and Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (2012). Other consultation credits include The Matrix (1999), Seabiscuit (2003), Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle (2003), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Things We Lost in the Fire (2007), The Skeleton Key (2005), Che: Part One (2008), Che: Part Two (2008), The Wolfman (2010) and The Lovely Bones (2009).
Traveling to film sets around the globe, Dr. Horrigan not only gets top talent ready for physically demanding roles, but he is also brought on to help manage the existing injuries of lead actors and actresses. With safety his top concern, Dr. Horrigan is able to return his clients to action in a timely manner, which minimizes the loss to studios, production companies and insurance agencies. He has enlisted a special team to handle projects requiring subspecialty and sports consultation for specific roles.
Dr. Horrigan continues to advance his profession by publishing original peer-reviewed research, presentations and articles, including a regular sports medicine column in Iron Man Magazine and a weekly blog in The Huffington Post.
