Update:
Earlier this week, the Golden Razzie Awards announced their nominations for this year’s ceremony (of sorts). Among the nominees was 12-year-old Firestarter’s Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress. The nomination hit the public domain hard, with cinephiles and general audiences chastising the Razzie organization for targeting a child to highlight misfires in the film industry. Today, the Razzies’ John Wilson responded to the controversy by saying, “Sometimes, you do things without thinking, Then you are called out for it. Then you get it. It’s why the Razzies were created in the first place.”
Wilson added that the negativity toward the nomination is “valid critisism.” He also clarified that Armstrong’s name is stricken from the final ballot and that the group is “adopting a Voting Guideline precluding any performer or film-maker under 18 years of age from being considered for our awards.”

“The Shining” icon Shelley Duvall is back on the big screen.
After parting ways with Hollywood more than 20 years ago, Duvall is set to star in “The Forest Hills,” an upcoming thriller from writer/director Scott Goldberg (“Moirai: The Drifter”). “The Forest Hills” is centered on Rico, a disturbed man (Chiko Mendez) who is plagued with nightmare visions after enduring head trauma while camping in the Catskill Mountains, as Deadline reported. The cast also includes Edward Furlong and Dee Wallace.
Duvall will play Rico’s mother, who serves as his inner voice. The “Three Women” alum previously appeared in the 2002 comedy “Manna from Heaven” and announced her retirement that same year.
“We are huge fans of ‘The Shining’ and it’s honestly one of my favorite horror movies of all time, up there with John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ and George A. Romero’s ‘Day of the Dead’ with the dark...

A new NBCUniversal advertising executive is taking on the task of tackling advertisers to link themselves to such sports properties as “Sunday Night Football” and the soon-to-launch Usfl.
Peter Lazarus will take the lead on selling ads behind the bulk of NBCUniversal’s sports programming, part of a gradual overhaul of the company’s work behind connecting Madison Avenue with some of TV’s biggest and most-watched properties.
Lazarus has been named executive vice president of sports ad-sales, taking up responsibilities previously held by Dan Lovinger, a longtime NBCU ad-sales exec who has been assigned to focus more intently on the company’s efforts behind Olympics advertising. Lovinger was elevated to president in January and will lead Olympics ad-sales efforts as NBCU works harder to fulfill a commitment it has made along the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, pledging to offer long-term deals to partners for TV, digital, and live event advertising,...

Maureen Murphy, who founded the Razzie Awards in 1981 with John J.B. Wilson, said in a new interview with Vulture that she regrets giving a worst actress nomination to Shelley Duvall for “The Shining.” The Razzie Awards are held annually the day before the Oscars and spotlight the worst films and performances of the year. The voting body consists of 1,128 members from 49 states and over two dozen countries worldwide.
“Knowing the backstory and the way that Stanley Kubrick kind of pulverized her, I would take that back,” Murphy said when asked about the more controversial Razzie Award nominees from over the years. Kubrick terrorized Duvall on “The Shining” set. His demanding filmmaking style had negative effects on the actor’s mental and physical health.
“The Shining” is Kubrick’s only movie to earn nominations from the Razzie Awards. In addition to Duvall’s nomination, Kubrick was also included in the Razzie race for worst director.

More than four decades after “The Shining” landed both Worst Actress and Worst Director nods at the inaugural Razzie Awards in 1980, the Golden Raspberry founders are still standing their ground — albeit with one exception.
In a feature interview with New York Magazine’s Vulture, Razzie co-founders John J.B. Wilson and Maureen Murphy revealed that they “don’t care for” how Stanley Kubrick adapted Stephen King’s “The Shining.” And while “The Shining” was snubbed at the Oscars, the critically acclaimed horror film did get plenty of attention by the Razzie academy voters.
“The voting membership the very first year were largely people that Maureen and I worked with at a trailer company,” Wilson said. “A group of us who had read Stephen King’s novel went to see ‘The Shining’ the night it opened at the Chinese, and we didn’t care for what Kubrick had done with the novel.

There’s plenty of mystique and controversy surrounding how exactly Hollywood awards are chosen, from the 10,000 hand-picked members of the Academy who crown each year’s Oscar winners to the notoriously insular group of some 100-or-so journalists who hand out the Golden Globes. In a fitting rebuke of the elite awards culture it satirizes, the Golden Raspberry Awards do things differently: $40 is all it takes to vote for the Razzies.
“I like to point out that although the Golden Globes are now lower on the Hollywood totem pole than we are — which is saying a lot — we have 10 or 11 times as many voters,” Razzies founder John J. B. Wilson said in an interview with IndieWire.
Now in its 42nd year, the Razzies highlight cinematic misfires, under-achievements, and failures. This year’s nominees were announced Monday, led by Worst Picture contenders “Diana the Musical,” “Infinite,” “Karen,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy,...
