Three episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
There’s not a lot left to do and say within the 30-minute, struggling creative-type, self-aware comedy genre. Shows like Louie and Girls honed in on the structure and voice of sitcoms like this over the past few years, letting replicators flourish (Broad City) or flounder (Flaked). There’s always a downtrodden hero, a partner in crime, and a plan to somehow “make it,” along with all of the other people who seem to be getting ahead. Some shows have slowly been pushing at the boundaries of what even defines this type of series, like You’re The Worst‘s deeply dark second year, and the cool thing about Hulu’s returning anarchic little sitcom, Difficult People, is that it knows this, and sets its sights on its peers with weaponized glee.
“When did comedies become 30-minute dramas?” Julie Kessler asks best-friend-forever Billy Epstein (Klausner and Eichner,...

Cuba Gooding Jr. put his personal feelings aside while playing O.J. Simpson, but the filming of one particular scene elicited an unexpected emotional response from the actor.
After shooting a scene depicting Nicole Brown Simpson's funeral for the upcoming mini-series The People v. O.J. Simpson, Gooding Jr. says he became overwhelmed with feelings of remorse.
"I broke for lunch and wept in the trailer," he tells The Daily Beast. "I looked at myself in the mirror and went, 'What the hell are you doing? Why are you so emotional?' "

We first told you back in July about Syfy giving the green light to the pilot Dominion, based on characters in the 2010 film Legion. Back then we had little to go on besides a sketchy paragraph about it being set 25 years in the future after an epic war between an army of angels and humankind.
Now we have more, including not only the casting of three major characters (at least two of whom are likely familiar to you) but a lot more in the way of plot and character detail.
Although I’m completely enthusiastic and encouraging about this pilot, the fact that one of the actors, Christopher Egan, was also cast in the pilot Gothica as Dorian Gray proves that casting a pilot by no means guarantees its pickup to series.
You have been warned; get excited about this, but don’t fall in love just yet:

It was an all-girls club this week on American Idol, following last week’s elimination of last boy standing Lazaro Arbos. But on Thursday’s results show, the Fierce Five shrunk to a Fab Four. The fallen idol spoke to EW.
Janelle Arthur was sent home.
Arthur didn’t appear too dismayed about her elimination during the taping, and she was still all smiles when talking with press after the show.
“I thought they were going to use the save, just not on me,” Arthur said. She also shared what she told fellow contestant Candice Glover before they walked onstage...

Ryan Murphy's latest project has received a pilot order at HBO. Open will play as "a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships," focusing on "five lead characters, including a married couple of thirtysomethings, the husband’s male co-worker and a woman in her 40s who is a yoga professional." Murphy wrote the pilot with Dexter co-executive producer Lauren Gussis. It'll be Murphy's fourth running series, with all four airing on different networks. The man is relentless.

Typically, the words "Yes, Dear reunion" wouldn't get me excited but in this case we're going to get to see Mike O'Maley (along with Liza Snyder) on Raising Hope, as reported by EW. They'll play a couple that finds the sex tape Burt and Virginia lost.
IFC's getting into the animated comedy business. Out There will follow three socially awkward boys living in a small town, with a voice cast that will include Megan Mullally, Linda Cardinelli, Pamela Adlon and Fred Armisen.
In an interview with Vulture, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan says that Casablanca provides the bar for Breaking Bad's finale, "No one gets everything they wanted. The guy doesn’t get the girl, but he has the satisfaction of knowing she wants him. And he doesn’t get her because he has to save the free world.

Three special episodes to mark Absolutely Fabulous‘ 20th anniversary were enough to land the iconic comedy series an International Emmy nomination. BBC’s Ab Fab, which won an International Emmy 18 years ago, was one of 38 nominees in nine categories for the 40th International Emmy Awards announced today by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at Mipcom. The list also includes two series getting high-profile remakes in the U.S. — Australia’s The Slap, nominated for best drama series, and UK’s Spy, nominated for best comedy series. NBC just ordered an 8-episode event limited series based on The Slap, while ABC is developing an American version of Spy as a put pilot. Also among the nominees is Awake star Jason Isaacs for Case History. As previously announced, the International Academy will present Special Founders Awards to Alan Alda and Norman Lear, while the 2012 International Emmy Founders Award will be presented to producer-writer Ryan Murphy.

How does one place bets on Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais, a man whose motto when it comes to torturing Hollywood (and Karl Pilkington) is “All bets are off”? You call in the pros, apparently. Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has Russell Brand and Katy Perry as the odds-on favorite to feel Gervais’ wrath on Sunday night. The Arthur star, who recently split from Perry, his wife of 15 months, apparently has 5:1 odds of being the initial target from his fellow funny Brit.
It’s also predicted that Gervais will take aim at targets like Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Justin Bieber,...

Teen Wolf star Colton Haynes says that we should prepare to see his character in a lot less clothing next season. Swim team instead of lacrosse perhaps? And just how much of the production costs is Logo picking up now?
Oklahoma nutjob Sally Kern has a book to promote, so on the eve of 9/11 she goes on the radio to say again that gays are responsible for more deaths than terrorists. She seems terribly worried that with gays around, we'll no longer be a virtuous nation. Sally, you know what else hurts our virtuous nature? Lying, opportunistic bigots.
I really do enjoy Let's Be Friends Again, and it takes a dip into gay humor every few weeks. Now they're taking on Orson Scott Card's rewrite of Hamlet.
I don't watch Big Brother, but even I heard about the homophobic rant that housemate Jeff Schroeder went off on about Hogwarts...

Our favorite big-mouthed hot blond quarterback returns in Tuesday's religion-themed episode of "Glee." Thank God... or, as the case may be, thank "Grilled Cheesus."
That'd be Finn's wish-granting grilled cheese sandwich, Fyi.
Sam (Chord Overstreet) will make an appearance on the football field, and let's just say he's not exactly having a good time out there.
Now, we know who won't be consoling him after his very bad day.
Though rumors swirled in the TV off-season that Overstreet would play Kurt's (Chris Colfer) new boyfriend, executive producer Ryan Murphy puts the gossip to rest in a chat with EOnline. "It's not Chord," he says. "It's definitely not Chord."
This leaves the door open for Darren Criss, who is joining the cast as a gay student in a rival glee club. (Moment of silence for Jesse St. James, please.) "Darren has a major, major arc," Murphy says. "He sort of becomes...
