While lesbians everywhere tap their feet waiting to see Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly together again on Burn Notice, a producer has invoked the names of Cagney and Lacey in announcing plans for a new series.
Anthony Zuiker, the creator of CSI and its multiple offspring, is planning to do a new show for CBS that has been described as a revival of Cagney & Lacey. The show, Jax & Amber, is the story of two female police detectives who are partners on the force.
Just about now, you may be reacting as I did at first: “Keep Your Mitts Off Of Cagney & Lacey!” But then I read this little tidbit at TV Squad: “one of the cops might be a lesbian.”
I’m totally in.
Of course, we don’t know much at this point, but that won’t stop us from coming up with casting suggestions. Like Rose Rollins and Leisha Hailey.

Danso Gordon
You may remember that back when The N's South of Nowhere was in its prime, one of its primary cast members, Danso Gordon (who played "Clay Carlin") abruptly quit the show because it "went against my personal Faith and integrity."
The show was one of the few on television that depicted gay teens in a positive way, and, at the time, there was speculation that this was exactly what Gordon found objectionable.
As we reported in February 2007, "The N's editorial director recently (accidentally?) revealed at a youth roundtable that an unnamed actor on the show felt that the positive portrayal of coming out — and the decidedly less positive picture painted by a conservative Christian mom who tries de-gay her dykey daughter — was 'morally wrong,' and asked to leave the show."
The negative publicity surrounding his departure surely put more pressure on the producers of the show, who...

Question: I heard that I Can't Think Straight is going to be a TV show. Is it true?
― Lesley M.
Sheetal Sheth and Lisa Ray in I Can't Think Straight
Answer: I reached out to Aida Kattan, the head of the Los Angeles office of writer-director Shamim Sarif's Enlightenment Films, and she confirmed that I Can't Think Straight, the series, is indeed in development by Sarif and her wife and co-producer Hanan Kattan.
According to Aida, Sarif is currently writing a pilot and series arc, and she's aiming for a North American network/broadcaster. If it gets developed by a network,...

Christina Cox has more than 40 roles to her credit but some love her best as Kim in Better than Chocolate, for her turn as the bisexual private detective Vicki in Blood Ties, and one half of the lesbian crime fighting couple in Nikki & Nora. Christina's newest sci-fi series, Defying Gravity doesn't have her playing a lesbian or bisexual, but she does get to wear form-fitting space suits and rattle off scientific jargon as a mission biologist. What's better than a hot nerd in space? Nothing, that's what.
Christina talked to AfterEllen.com recently about her new show, which is described by a production executive as a "sci-fi premise, told in a female-friendly way." She also gave us some dish on Ladycops, the show-within-a-show from the web series, 3Way, and shared her thoughts about this year's Hot 100 List.

Nancylee Myatt, Maeve Quinlan, and the rest of 3Way folks recently released a full episode of the fake show-within-a-show Ladycops, starring Liz Vassey (CSI) and Christina Cox (Blood Ties, Defying Gravity), that they first introduced in episode six of 3Way.
Cox and Vassey play straight actresses (Lara Lancaster and Mikki Majors) who hate each other, playing lesbian detectives (Sienna and Jo) secretly in love with each other on the crime show Ladycops — which is itself a reference to the lesbian detectives Cox and Vassey played in the pilot for a real show called Nikki & Nora, which was almost picked up for broadcast TV in 2004.
Confused yet? But in a good way, right?
Basically, Ladycops: Brotherly Love is a send-up of police procedurals — complete with cheesy music, forensics banter laced with sexual tension, and the requisite chasing-a-suspect sequence — with a lesbian twist. It also makes fun of how some actors who...

Question: When is the 3Way DVD coming out?
— Diana, Ames, Iowa
Question: What is the status of 3way season two? Is it being filmed or planned? I loved that show and can't wait to see more of it!
— Arielle
Answer: We've received a lot of questions on these two topics over the last few months, and we finally have an answer! To one of them, at least.
The first season of 3Way will be released on DVD on Dinah Shore weekend (i.e. the first weekend in April), according to the 3Way producers. They plan to post more details on 3WayTV.tv soon,...

Question: I recently watched the pilot of Nikki & Nora, and I can't believe it wasn't picked up for a full season. Is there any chance of it being picked up at a later date, possibly by a network that was not originally approached? Or is it lost forever?
— mustang_sally, Utah
Answer: I forwarded your question to Nikki & Nora creator Nancylee Myatt, and she confirmed that the pilot starring Liz Vassey (CSI) and Christina Cox (Blood Ties) as lesbian detectives in New Orleans is indeed dead. Warner Bros. Studios and Laura Zisken Productions (who produces all the Spiderman movies) produced/own the rights to the pilot,...
