This strange blend of French série noire and English Brit noir was filmed in glowing Technicolor on location in Holland and Paris. Runaway bookkeeper Claude Rains teams up with the highly fatale Märta Torén, evading the law in pursuit of the good life promised by a valise packed with money. Georges Simenon’s crime tale has an undertaste of Poetic Realist rebelliousness.

Arthur Nadel. It’s an unfortunate week for Ponzi schemers the country over: three people (a set of twins and one unrelated individual) were sentenced to prison for their financial misdeeds. A Manhattan judge ordered them to serve a minimum of three and a half years in prison.

Elvis Presley holds the throne as “The King” of rock n’ roll. Music was his forte, but he did dabble in film for awhile and the results were a mixed bag.
