- Made a special appearance at the Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario to discuss her life as a filmmaker and as a Native American. She also showed a special screening for her newest film "Waban-Aki: People from Where the Sun Rises". (March 2007)
- She is a member of the Abenaki Nation.
- She started out as a singer, writer, and storyteller. She is also an engraver and print-maker.
- She was awarded the C.C. (Companion of the Order of Canada) on November 18, 2019 by the Canadian Governor General for her services to Canada. She lives in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Over the course of five decades with the National Film Board of Canada, the documentary filmmaker and gifted narrator has released more than 50 documentary films that have changed the national conversation on Indigenous issues.
