New Delhi, May 4 (Ians) Indian startups must give priority to good governance and financial management and create new benchmarks not only for India but also for other G20 nations, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant has stressed.
Globally, startups have evolved into the catalyst for economic recovery, reorientation and growth driven by innovation.
At the sidelines of a think tank conference organised by Nishith Desai Associates and TiE Mumbai recently, Kant reiterated the importance of developing the corporate governance standards for India Inc to go global and establish norms for other G20 countries.

Kolkata, April 7 (Ians) Even the most ardent Kolkata Knight Riders fan in the Eden Gardens wouldn’t have anticipated the turnaround Shardul Thakur would bring with the bat against Royal Challengers Bangalore when the hosts’ were down and out at 89/5 in 11.3 overs.
But Thakur slammed 68 off 29 balls, with nine fours and three sixes at a strike-rate of 234.48 and grabbed the record for the joint-fastest fifty of the season along with Jos Buttler in 20 balls. He also shared an important 103-run stand off just 47 balls with Rinku Singh, who struggled but opened up to hit 46 off 33 balls.
The duo’s efforts in a scintillating turnaround meant Kolkata fetched a whopping 110 runs in the last eight overs, which set the base for their 81-run thrashing of Rcb.
On being given Player of the Match award, Thakur admitted that he himself didn’t know from where the whirlwind knock came.

India on Monday recorded a single-day rise of 918 new Covid cases in the past 24 hours pushing the active cases to 6,350, according to the Union Health Ministry data.
The highest Covid cases were reported from Kerala, followed by Maharashtra, Gujarat (740), Karnataka (616), Tamil Nadu (363), Telangana (237), and Delhi (209). The country also reported four Covid deaths — two in Rajasthan, and one each in Karnataka and Kerala.
"We believe that this is a change between the two seasons and we are seeing a spurt in the cases because of that. As soon as the summer sets in and the sweltering heat comes in, hopefully these cases will go down," Dr Rahul Pandit, a member of the Covid task force and Chair, Critical Care, Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, told Ians.
"Covid is now just like the flu or a common cold. There is no significant increase in hospitalisation, ICU admission or death rate," added epidemiologist Dr.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 23 (Ians) Amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in some foreign countries, especially China, the Odisha government on Friday advised its people to voluntarily follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
After reviewing the Covid situation in the state, Odisha Health Secretary Shalini Pandit said that people must adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour such as use of mask, hand washing, avoiding spitting in public places and self-isolation in case of showing symptoms.
Countries like China, Japan, Korea, the US, France, Brazil and Germany are showing a spike in the number of Covid cases for the past two weeks. However, the situation in Odisha has been stable with below 15 cases being reported per day since November, Pandit said.

Cinema can be a powerful medium for social transformation, and no one gauged it better than the legendary V Shantaram who used his memorable films to attack the malaise of untouchability and caste, forced marriages of young women to (rich) old men, dowry, communalism and regionalism, as well as to humanise policemen, prostitutes, and convicts.
And, he was not deterred when any of his courageous films ran afoul of vested interests.
When his “Apna Desh (Hindi)/Nam Nadu (Tamil)” (1949), an eloquent appeal against the deepening fault-lines threatening to destabilise the newly-independent country, faced an ill-informed and easily-swayed public and a malicious media campaign, there were powerful backers to ensure it faced no problems. These were no less than Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Morarji Desai, the then home ministers of India and Bombay state, his daughter recounted in his autobiography.

Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.
