Rourke plays a paralysed man healed by a saint in a trudge through the life of the man who would eventually become canonised as St Nektarios of Aegina
This pious work is clearly designed to send believers into a state of ecstasy, but it may be a bit of a slog for the secular. Essentially, it’s a biopic that takes a trudge through the life highlights of the Greek Orthodox holy man who would eventually become canonised as St Nektarios of Aegina (1846-1920). Russian writer-director Yelena Popovic mercifully eschews all the boring early years stuff and plunges into Nektarios’ story when he is in his 30s; he is played by Greek actor Aris Servatalis, who mainly speaks English throughout.
Already a Metropolitan bishop and living in Egypt, Nektarios gains a reputation among the common people for good works and what will later be considered miracles of healing. This rubs other,...

“After two and a half months in lockdown, everybody was happy to be back at work.”
Man Of God was two days out from the start of production when Greece went into lockdown in mid-March, so when restrictions were lifted at the end of May producer Alexandros Potter knew he had to act fast.
“For us we felt the right thing was to start production and get as much done as we could,” said Potter, who runs Simeon Entertainment with the faith-based film’s writer-director Yelena Popovic.
“We’d scheduled the Greek release for November through Feelgood Entertainment,” said Potter.

One moment in the film L.A. Superheroes pierces through the hoary concept, cliché-addled script, and weak ensemble acting. It's when aging, failed model-actress Helena (film producer and screenwriter Yelena Popovic) snaps at a friend who blames her for her lack of Hollywood success.
"I worked," she says angrily. "I worked like a dog and it just didn't happen for me." Nothing else in Superheroes, allegedly "based on a true story," carries that spark of truth — or any reason to care about the people onscreen. When Helena, in America on an expired work visa, buys a fake birth certificate, she's snagged by government agents who entice her to turn snitch on her supplier.
Neither her bitchy agent nor her loser boyfriend is of any use after Helena g...
