Exclusive: Athens-set thriller will shoot in September.
Koch Films Gmbh takes German-speaking rights on UK director Jonathan English’s [pictured] Athens-set action-thriller Dias, which is due to shoot in the Greek capital in September.
Paris-based Memento Film International (Mfi) is handling sales on the picture about Athen’s elite police motorbike force, the Dias, which was created in 2012 in response to a rise in petty and organised crime after the debt crisis threw the country into chaos.
“There are lots of reasons to be intrigued by Dias: First and foremost, it’s a fast paced, straightforward action film with cops on motorbikes, chasing their enemies in the streets of Athens,” said Koch Films director of acquisitions Moritz Peters.
The production marks a change of scene for English whose last two films Ironclad and sequel Ironclad: Battle For Blood, were set against the backdrop of medieval England.
It is a $4.5m (€4m) co-production between Athens-based View Master Films and Germany...

One of the biggest announcements this week at Cannes was the news of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune, a documentary on the Chilean filmmaker’s attempt to adapt Frank Herbert‘s novel in the mid-’70s. Twitch recently premiered an exclusive video clip from the upcoming production detailing just how insanely ambitious the project was. Fans of the legendary filmmaker would all agree that if he had completed the project, it would strongly stand a chance of being one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made. I guess we’ll never know. Watch the promo vide below.
Also here is the official press release:

Holy Mountain of shit! News has emerged from the Cannes film festival that documentary filmmaker Frank Pavich is halfway through making a film called Jodorowsky.s Dune which chronicles Alejandro Jodorowsky's failed efforts to adapt Frank Herbert.s novel Dune in the mid 1970s.
While the ambitious production collapsed after two years, Jodorowsky.s team of then relatively unknown concept artists continued exploring the themes and styles started on the project and ended up changing modern science fiction forever: H.R. Giger went on to Ridley Scott.s masterpiece Alien, Dan O.Bannon wrote Alien and Total Recall, Jean .Moebius. Giraud created artwork and futuristic worlds for The Empire Strikes Back, Tron, and The Fifth Element and Chris Foss would go on to work on Alien and Superman.
To give you a sense of how crazy Jadorowsky's version would have been here's what he had to say about it:
