The 20th anniversary of writer/director Rob Zombie’s feature directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) came and went last year – but today, Zombie took to social media to announce that he’s celebrating the 21st anniversary of the film by working on a book about the making of it! Zombie also shared multiple behind-the-scenes images, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article.
Zombie wrote, “To celebrate the 21st anniversary of House of 1000 Corpses being released I thought I would give you a sneak peek at the House of 1000 Corpses book that I have been working on. 2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of writer/director Rob Zombie’s feature debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here), and today we’re celebrating the film’s anniversary with a video that digs into The Best Scene in the movie! You can check it out in the embed above.
The scene we’ve chosen to feature in this video is the opening sequence that involves Captain Spaulding, brought to life through an iconic performance from Sid Haig, dealing with a pair of dimwitted armed robbers who have come busting into his gas station / murder museum.
House of 1000 Corpses has the following synopsis: Two young couples take a misguided tour onto the back roads of America in search of a local legend known as Dr. Satan. Lost and stranded, they are set upon by a bizarre family of psychotics. Murder, cannibalism and satanic rituals are just a...

The Wishmaster episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror has had many periods and the late 1990s were very much for self-referential films, dark humor, and cameos. Wishmaster, or Wes Craven’s Wishmaster (watch it Here) as it was marketed at the time, is more on the dark humor side of things than self-referential. Still, it does have plenty of cameos and references to other movies to be found by those paying attention.
While the film was marketed as Wes Craven’s Wishmaster, the film was in fact, written by Peter Adkins and directed by Robert Kurtzman, two creators the world of horror already knew. Craven was an executive producer here, but his name put butts in seats back in the day,...

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, House of 1000 Corpses has received a new Blu-ray edition. The two-disc box set is loaded with extras — including never-before-seen cast and crew interviews — among other bells and whistles, but writer-director Rob Zombie’s new commentary track is a digital exclusive (here’s how to listen).
It’s a bizarre choice — a timing issue is the only logical explanation I can fathom — but thankfully the Blu-ray comes with a digital copy that includes the track. Zombie begins by noting that it’s his first time watching the movie in its entirety since recording the previous commentary for the DVD 20 years ago, but he manages to remember plenty about the tumultuous production.
Here are seven things I learned from Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses commentary…

Back in February, we learned that Lionsgate is giving writer/director Rob Zombie‘s feature debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) a new Blu-ray release to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary on April 11th. There will be a standard edition of the House of 1000 Corpses 20th anniversary Blu-ray and a steelbook edition that will be exclusive to Best Buy. Both editions will include a disc that’s full of new bonus features, but a New Director’s Commentary will only be accessible on digital platforms. Zombie took to Instagram to reveal that he was recording that new commentary yesterday.

A couple days ago, writer/director Rob Zombie shared an image from the alternate ending to his feature directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here). An ending that would have shown Sid Haig’s character Captain Spaulding giving a ride to final girl Denise (Erin Daniels) in his Museum of Monsters and Madmen truck. In the film, Spaulding gave Denise a ride in a convertible – and Otis (Bill Moseley) was revealed to be in the backseat. In the deleted ending, Denise would’ve been dragged into the back of the truck by Spaulding’s pal Ravelli (Irwin Keyes). Zombie has now shared another image from the alternate ending that shows Haig and Daniels in the truck, before Ravelli emerges from the back.
Unfortunately, it’s not likely we’ll ever see footage of this alternate ending, because all of the cut scenes were lost while the movie was passed from studio to studio.

The screenplay for Rob Zombie’s feature directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) can be found online, and is quite different from the film that made it to theatres in 2003. Not only was Grampa Hugo revealed to be Dr. Satan, but there are scenes in the script that were filmed and cut – and Zombie has no access to the footage, as it was lost while the movie was passed from studio to studio. Among the differences is an alternate ending… and Zombie took to Instagram to share a rare still from the film’s original ending! In this image, we see Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters and Madmen truck:

Last year, Trick or Treat Studios released a 5″ tall action figure of the character Captain Spaulding from Rob Zombie‘s feature directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses (watch it Here) – and you can purchase the Captain Spaulding figure, which is called the “Finger Lickin’ Pistol Whippin’ Captain Spaulding action figure”, at This Link. With the upcoming 3 From Hell, Rob Zombie continues the saga of Captain Spaulding, Baby and Otis that began with 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses and continued with 2005’s The Devil’s Rejects. But as the series moves into its third installment, you may’ve noticed that one sinister character from the first film has been completely left behind.
We’re specifically referring to Dr. Satan, who was portrayed by Walter Phelan in House of 1000 Corpses but was a no-show for The Devil’s Rejects and won’t be returning for 3 From Hell. Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Zombie reflected on the twisted physician, and his reasons for excluding the character from the first sequel:
“Yeah, I got rid of him on The Devil’s Rejects. I brought in the character with the idea that I would incorporate him into the [sequel] and try to bring him into the more realistic world that the films had evolved into,...

We’re in the home stretch of Masters of Horror Season One, and many of the genre’s biggest names have already been checked off the list: Carpenter, Landis, Hooper, Gordon, Dante, Coscarelli, Argento. That brings us to William Malone, probably the first Master who’s not already a household name among horror fans. And while his episode isn’t among the strongest of the first season, he does conjure up one of the series’ scariest images and embraces the surreal in a way the other installments have not. His is a worthy entry in the Masters of Horror run.

For a decade, fans have waited for the Tales From The Crypt movies, Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood to make their Blu-ray debut. Along the way, some very expensive import versions were released, but as tempting as that was, I knew Scream Factory would be the one who would release the definitive editions of these films, and that is exactly what happened.
Demon Knight
Easily the highest quality film in this double feature from the crypt, Demon Knight is one of the definitive horror movies of the Nineties. It has a killer soundtrack, a hip, talented cast, and some tremendous special makeup and monster effects.
I’m happy to report that Demon Knight holds up extremely well. It had been a very long time since my last viewing, so I was a little bit concerned. But, honestly, I may have even enjoyed the movie more this time around. I remember it being a wild,...

October 20th is yet another stellar week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, all leading up to our favorite holiday: Halloween. One of my favorite films of all time, Ernest Dickerson’s Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, is finally making its way to HD via a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray from Scream Factory. And as if that’s not enough, Scream is also busy with two more great releases this Tuesday as well—Bordello of Blood and The Larry Fessenden Collection.
Kino Lorber is reviving another cult classic on Tuesday too—The Oblong Box—which is based on the Edgar Allan Poe tale and co-stars two cinematic legends, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. For those of you Back to the Future fans out there (and really, who isn’t?), Universal is giving the series a few special releases in time for the film’s 30th anniversary and,...

Next Tuesday, Scream Factory will offer horror fans several new options for Halloween movie marathons when The Larry Fessenden Collection and the Tales From the Crypt films Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood come out on respective Blu-rays. Ahead of their impending release date, we have clips and trailers from all three Blu-rays to give you a look at what's to come.
Demon Knight (Collector's Edition Blu-ray): "A mysterious drifter known as Brayker (William Sadler, Iron Man 3) possesses the last of seven ancient keys that hold the power to stop the forces of darkness and protect all humanity from ultimate evil. But the human race is safe only so long as Brayker can evade the demonic Collector (Billy Zane, Titanic) who has gathered the other six keys.
In his obsessive quest for the key, the Collector rallies an army of ghastly cadavers against Brayker and the inhabitants of a run-down hotel.

Hello, and welcome to The Best Of Number Two here at The Liberal Dead. We haven’t done any kind of theme for a long time, so I thought I would reach out to some some talented people from other sites, and see if we can put something together. I decided it would be a theme about the best second films in a franchise/series. Expect discussion about Metamorhosis: The Alien Factor, The Devil’s Rejects, C.H.U.D. Sure, horror and metal have always walked hand-in-hand. Forget the "Thriller" video; at the top of my list of horror-themed music videos is Black Label Society's "Stillborn". (Of course Doctor Gash has been bleeding Black Label for a long time... what's your favorite horror-themed music video?) But today we discovered a zombie-themed music video that is far from a metal song. Rock band The Active Set has released a bloodbath of a video for their song "Famous for Dying".
The Active Set is obviously a band that is not so self-absorbed that they need to have their faces incessantly shown in their videos. In fact, basically the entire second half of this work is simply a zombie feeding frenzy on the band. Starring Matthew Stolarz, Wayne Russell, Michael Castro, Shelby Lindley, Tristin Gorrell, Melanie Russell, Walter Phelan, Damien Stolarz, Adam Stolarz, Jeremy Stolarz and directed by Lior Molcho with F/X by Walter Phelan,...

The first trailer dropped for Michael Emanuel's spiritual creature-feature based on the Algonquian Wendigo myth and I'm still trying to figure out if it'll be worth tracking down when it finally arrives. It looks like it's well made and full of some decent creature scares, but the way the promo's cobbled together just isn't doing it any favors.
Synopsis:
A former FBI profiler, now a sheriff of a small town and a single parent of a high school aged daughter, begins to profile a series of unexplained murders only to learn that the monster he's profiling may be himself.
Maneater stars a decent cast in Dean Cain, Conrad Janis ("The Cable Guy"), Stephen Lunsford, Walter Phelan ("House of 1000 Corpses"), Maximillian Roeg and Lacy Phillips ("Pushing Twilight").
Trailer after the break.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.

A new indie film we've been keeping an eye on as of late is Maneater, which we broke the news on here this past July. This morning the first image from Michael Emanuel's film appeared online and features a look at the Windigo monster in the film, which tells the story of an FBI profiler-turned-small-town sheriff who begins investigating a series of mysterious murders only to discover that the monster he's profiling might be himself. Dean Cain, Conrad Janis, Stephen Lunsford, Walter Phelan, Maximillian Roeg and Lacy Phillips all star. The creature was created by Jason (Albino Farm) Barnett and Bill Fesh.

The Hollywood Reporter announced this morning that Canal Street's upcoming horror flick Maneater (nothing to do with the straight to DVD / cable Maneater series) has just cast six actors for the film's leading roles! Wow--what a...
