Russell T Davies’ It’s a Sin and Jack Thorne’s Help, two hard-hitting Channel 4 shows about societal issues, have dominated this year’s BAFTA TV Awards nominations, taking six and four noms, respectively.
Incorporating BAFTA Craft noms, which run concurrently with the TV Awards, HBO Max co-production It’s a Sin picked up 11, including for Mini-Series, Writer (Davies), five actors and in the Virgin Must-See Moment for Colin’s diagnosis.
Davies’ heart-wrenching semi-biographical portrayal of the UK’s 1980s AIDS epidemic for Red Production Company has swept up at this year’s awards ceremonies and is fresh off the back of three wins at last night’s Rts Awards and two at the Bpg Awards.

Exclusive: Channel 4 has stoked anger in the British television industry after swapping producers on its tentpole election night show without a formal competitive process.
The British broadcaster announced last month that BBC Studios-backed Expectation will co-produce its Alternative Election Night on December 12, the day Britain heads to the polls in a crunch vote that could determine the country’s future relationship with the EU.
The decision to hand Expectation the Alternative Election Night, a live election results show with an entertainment twist, meant that Endemol Shine Group outfit Zeppotron was sidelined after originally creating the format in 2010 and having produced it on three separate occasions since the turn of the decade.
Two sources told Deadline that the decision was made without a formal competitive pitching process and that Channel 4 has had to go back to Zeppotron to request key production materials to maintain the show’s consistency. Channel...

The BBC has commissioned Crystal Maze-meets-Ninja Warrior-style primetime gameshow First and Last, as first revealed by Deadline.
British comedian Jason Manford is to host the comedy game show from Endemol Shine’s Zeppotron.
The six-part series will air on BBC One. Deadline broke the news that the British public broadcaster was developing a UK version, with local productions also being worked up in Brazil, China, Italy and Ukraine.
The show puts contestants through a succession of ingenious rounds, all of which have one golden rule – players mustn’t come first or last in any game. If they do, they will be eliminated. Eleven players start each show and compete across a range of downright daft, stupidly funny, play-along-at-home games that will see one of them leave with a cash prize of up to £10,000. To win, they’ll need to judge every round to perfection and hold their nerve in the nail-biting endgame.

‘The Crown’ Battles It Out With ‘Black Mirror’ & ‘Line Of Duty’ As BAFTA TV Nominations Are Unveiled
Netflix drama The Crown is once again set to duke it out to win at the BAFTA TV Awards after being nominated in three key categories alongside Charlie Brooker’s dystopian anthology series Black Mirror, Thandie Newton-fronted cop drama Line of Duty and domestic British series Three Girls.
The period series was shut out at last year’s event despite picking up five nominations and has once again been nominated in the best drama category, while Claire Foy will go up against Hollywood star Thandie Newton for best actress. Given Foy’s performance over the two seasons, and the recent controversy over her salary, she is the hot favorite to pick up a gong as she exits the Left Bank drama. Similarly, Vanessa Kirby, who is handing over the reins of Princess Margaret to Helena Bonham Carter for seasons three and four of The Crown, is nominated for supporting...
