U.S. author Reynolds Price has died after suffering a heart attack on Thursday. He was 77.
The Kate Vaiden novelist and university professor was taken ill last Sunday.
Price was a Rhodes Scholar and studied in Oxford, England.
He won the William Faulkner Award for a notable first novel for A Long and Happy Life in 1962. Kate Vaiden received the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1986.
He also published biblical translations A Palpable God and The Three Gospels and served as a professor at Duke University in North Carolina right up to his death.
He was confined to a wheelchair in 1984 after a cancer battle left him paralysed from the waist down.
