Kudos to all of you out there who predicted the coming of the comic book character Graviton! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 19 revealed the character quite unexpectedly in the final minutes.
That's not to say his existence was unforeseen, obviously. But how many of us guessed that Talbot would be the one to take the plunge and absorb all the gravitonium?
I confess that I'm not overly familiar with Graviton's comic book version, aside from a few broad brush strokes, but I'm reasonably concerned that this will not mean a happily-ever-after for my favorite quipping partner for Coulson.
The whole thing has the makings of a tragedy. Poor Talbot, already broken by Hydra's tortures, tries to make things right. But how long can his fractured mind contain the screaming essences of Franklin Hall and Ian Quinn?
To make matters worse, what if it turns...

Wholly unexpected flashbacks, Batman! Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 5 Episode 16 definitely startled me, that's for sure.
Yes, we had the gravitonium, but up until now it seemed like the writers had completely forgotten how it absorbed Dr. Franklin Hall way back in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 1 Episode 3.
And that wasn't the only blast from the past in this latest installment, either!
Remember how that obnoxious businessman Ian Quinn (David Conrad) made a pain of himself working with John Garrett and Hydra and then just sort of vanished from the scene?
Related: Agents of Shield Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Committing To The Cause
Amazingly (and amusingly, if black humor is your thing), turns out the show hadn't forgotten him, either. Given that the gravitonium "asked" for Quinn, one wonders how much of Dr. Hall is still within the mass.
In the comics, Hall became the super-villain Graviton. If that is happening here,...

This week on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson worked with unlikely allies, Daisy found a wounded bird and Yo-Yo pulled a whopper on big Mack.
First things first: As the headline suggests, I am not Ok with how and why Elena and Jemma pulled a fast (and rather dark) one on Mack, in the name of freeing Fitz. It was wrong, it was icky and it involved the betrayal of an otherwise very good man — perhaps the best man S.H.I.E.L.D. currently employs. Presumably (almost) all will be forgiven once the ladies and Fitz return...

With Marvel's Agents of Shield returning to the UK for its second season today (at 8pm on Channel 4, and almost certainly available on catch-up services afterwards), it's a perfect time to speculate as to what the new season may have in store for our favourite Marvel-lous Shield-wielding Agents. (No, not Captain America. Sorry. That would be Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which is awesome.)
Part 1 of this article looked at the question of "What will they become?", applying it to Coulson, and then Part 2 went to on look at May and Ward respectively. Now, Part 3 will look at Skye.
[Marvel's Agents of Shield Season 1 spoilers follow]
Skye (Chloe Bennett)
At the start of Season 1, Skye was a Rising Tide hacktivist ("weirdly good with computers"), opposed to what she thought Shield stood for, and then was captured by Shield and recruited. She planned to bring Shield down from the inside, while taking the opportunity to learn more about her parents,...

Team Coulson face off with Garrett and his cronies one last time. Who will win, who will lose? Who survives?
Well, that was one heck of a finale. It was, in fact, the sort of show that I had hoped for way back when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first started. While the showrunners, Jedd Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoan ostensibly wrote this, it had the unmistakable fingerprints of Joss Whedon.
Things start off with John Garrett being crazy, but not just crazy, super-strong crazy, which is always a winning combination. Traitor Boy Ward is not pleased by that turn of events. He’s stoked that his daddy is all healed up and all, but the whole writing on Plexiglas with a nail thing is just disturbing and hey maybe now they can quit Hydra?
Garrett’s like, “Oh, who cares about Hydra? I’m feeling the universe man! It’s super cool!

Agents of Shield, Season 1, Episode 18, “Providence”
Written by Brent Fletcher
Directed by Milan Cheylov
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on ABC
In the aftermath of Shield’s destruction, Agents of Shield splits “Providence” between the remaining members of Coulson’s team trying to figure out what is next and Ward and Garrett heading off to the Fridge for evil plotting and mustache-twirling. At first, Coulson wants to go completely off the grid, but he rethinks this plan when he discovers glowing coordinates on his Shield badge. He believes the coordinates are a clue from Fury himself as to where to go and how to find him. May, however, thinks that Coulson isn’t thinking clearly in the aftermath of Shield’s demise, and she worries that his decisions are putting everyone else in danger.
“Turn, Turn, Turn” and Captain America: Winter Soldier are both action-heavy, but “Providence” is more about the laughs.

I tuned in just in time this week to catch Ward's act of betrayal again, followed by the Hydra symbol instead of the Shield one. I'm less convinced now than last week that Ward is faking anything. Those three bullets he put in Hand at close range would seem to be fairly inarguable, and as more back-story was revealed over the course of the episode, it seems like Ward has been garbage since frame one. That's cool. That's the version of the story I hope they're telling. If he turns out to just be faking everything, it's going to really irritate me. Right now, Ward suddenly got a personality, and he's suddenly an interesting character with some actual dimension to him. If they try to wrap everything up this year by just making him a good guy again, it's going to feel like it's just not playing fair anymore. There...

If you're a Marvel fan, it's not unlikely that you're also a Joss Whedon fan, and vice-versa. After all, Joss Whedon was influenced by Marvel comics, they have storytelling styles in common, and they even overlap (The Avengers and Marvel's Agents of Shield onscreen, plus Astonishing X-Men and Runaways in comics). If you're a fan of one but not familiar with the other, why not check the other out? (Not to be confused with the Avengers character The Other, played by Whedonverse veteran Alexis Denisof.)
In any case, this comparison of the recent Marvel films Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2 (and the TV show Marvel's Agents of Shield) with Joss Whedon's first show Buffy the Vampire Slayer will try to avoid any major spoilers (though there's one for Captain America 2, which will be clearly marked), so feel free to keep reading.

Who is an ally and who is an enemy on "Marvel's Agents of Shield"? That will be the big question in Season 1's 17th episode, "Turn, Turn, Turn."
Considering it comes out in two days, by now we can tease that "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is going to have some game-changing effects on the world of "Marvel's Agents of Shield" (yes, we've seen it, and yes, it's awesome). Once the events of the movie become known, the stakes in this episode will be even higher than anyone previously thought.
Right now the show is implying that agents Melinda May and Victoria Hand are working against Shield, but is Agent John Garrett an enemy as well? The end of this promo sort of implies it, and photos from episode 18, "Providence," show Garrett with Raina and Ian Quinn. Next thing you know, we'll find out FitzSimmons are secretly Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

It's back to school for Marvel's Agents of Shield this week, as a series of unusual events at the agency's sci-tech academy leads to the emergence of a potential new threat.
Appropriately enough, 'Seeds' has traces of promise but never quite blossoms. The episode boasts a number of exciting developments in the series arc and some terrific interactions between the regular characters, but an uninspiring plot-of-the-week drags proceedings down.
The team's trip to Shield academy has some positive factors - Lost actor Dylan Minnette delivers a nuanced performance as troubled teen genius Donnie Gill, while Fitzsimmons' transformation from social misfits to high school heroes is fun.
But 'Seeds' lacks a real villain - the closest we get is David Conrad's returning smarmball Ian Quinn - and that coupled with the rather cartoonish threat of the ice machine means the episode lacks both direction and menace.

Agents of Shield returned from its Olympic break with one clear mission -- save Skye. And as usual, it was accomplished without any team fatalities (unless you include the two Guest House guards who were likely Shield contracted).
It was truly a team effort to save our wounded non-Academy-trained hacker, who was shot twice by now in-custody trafficker and businessman Ian Quinn on orders from the mysterious Clairvoyant. The seer of seers has put a lot of careful planning into figuring out how Coulson escaped death's clutches, but the real question is if Skye's rescue is playing right into his hands.

The team fights to save Skye’s life. Coulson learns more of the secret of his return. And Asgardians are back to cause trouble.
When last we looked in on Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., our scrappy band of disparate heroes had declared war on bad guy billionaire and arms dealer, Ian Quinn. They hunted him to his lair where Skye foolishly tried to face off with him one to one. Ian, being a booger-face, just stone cold shot her. And, for good measure, he shot her again.
Agent Phil Coulson did not take finding her body well. Through a minor plot contrivance, they managed to keep her just this side of death. But things don’t look good for our hacker-turned-hero.
And that’s where we pick up, with the team wheeling Skye into S.H.I.E.L.D.’s trauma unit and handing her off to the doctors.

When "Marvel's Agents of Shield" returns to ABC on Tuesday (March 4), expect episode 14, "Tahiti," to start the series going full throttle towards Season 1's conclusion.
"It gets crazy," star Chloe Bennet admits to Zap2it during a recent interview. "People are going to be really, really excited to see what comes up next. It's absolute nonstop from here on out."
"Agents of Shield" last left Bennet's character Skye in some pretty dire straights as she was rescued near death after a run-in with Ian Quinn and Mike Peterson-turned-Deathlok. In "Tahiti," she will hopefully be brought back to full health, but having her character be in stasis allowed Bennet to relax at least a little bit.
"I don't want to ruin anything, but definitely had an easy time filming the upcoming episode. There were a couple things that were a little tricky -- I don't want to get into it...

Thirteen is often associated with bad luck. Some buildings don’t even label their 13th floor “13.” But for Marvel’s and ABC’s “Agents of Shield,” it seems to be their lucky number. This week’s episode “T.R.A.C.K.S.” marked what could arguably be called a turning point for the show. Many have clamored for more integration of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and to use the show to debut new characters, something, they argue, Marvel has not been taking advantage of. It seems this was Marvel’s plan from the very beginning, with a major reveal getting a big fan reaction and the overarching storyline finally moving forward with this week’s episode. The Story: Now that Centipede is on the run, the crew is after Ian Quinn (David Conrad) in their efforts to track down the mysterious Clairvoyant. Following a tip from Italian Police Inspector...

Like an increasingly large number of its characters, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is crawling back from a near-death experience. Last night's "T.R.A.C.K.S." — a title seemingly designed to irritate TV critics — offered a fun, fast-moving plot and a cliffhanger that actually left me hanging. We're thirteen episodes in, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally evolving into the show it should have been from the beginning. The only question: Is it too late to woo back viewers who felt burned by the first twelve?"T.R.A.C.K.S." thrives by falling back on a tried-and-true screenwriting principle: Train heists are never boring. In a zippy bit of exposition that opens the episode, Coulson explains that a company called Cybertek is transporting an unspecified piece of technology to Ian Quinn. In order to protect the cargo — and, presumably, because everyone agrees this show has already spent too...

Fancy a train ride? The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. team sure did…and got much more then they bargained for when what was supposed to be a simple undercover op went horribly wrong. The show is finally upping its stakes with the action, humor, risk-taking (Skye?!) and hey! Was that Deathlok’s introduction? So much to talk about! But before we get into all that, let’s backtrack (see what I did there?)
Coulson gathers his team and tells them they’ve found Ian Quinn, or at least, they think they know how they can find him. By tracking down some expensive purchase,...

The description for the latest episode of Agents of Shield reads, "While seeking out the Clairvoyant, the team boards a train that appears to be heading toward doom," and I'll admit, I got a little excited about the possible wordplay significance.
After all, capturing industrialist Ian Quinn is the main mission objective, and he bears a striking resemblance to one Victor Von Doom. A character of such magnitude would be a huge add to the series, though some explanations would obviously be necessary.
Alas, "T.R.A.C.K.S." does not fulfill such lofty aspirations. But what it does do is deliver on an entirely different plane that far exceeded expectations.

At a visit to the set of "Marvel's Agents of Shield," two major Marvel comics characters were confirmed to be joining the ABC drama. Deathlok and Lorelei's additions were announced by Marvel's Jeph Loeb, with Lorelei joining in episode 15 alongside Lady Sif and Deathlok being the next incarnation of Mike Peterson who is shown in episode 13.
"We've been leaving breadcrumbs along the way. This is a major Marvel character appearing on TV, on film for the first time," Loeb says.
Peterson has been a recurring character in "Agents of Shield" since its premiere, and he went from being a confused lab rat of Centipede to an agent of Shield. After being revealed as alive and sort of well, albeit captured again by Centipede and missing an eye and a leg, at the end of "Seeds," it turns out that J. August Richards' character will now be turned into the cyborg Deathlok.

"Marvel's Agents of Shield" is going big for its thirteenth episode. The above promo claims that the third act of episode 13 could change the entire series forever, which is a big statement to live up to.
The team is heading undercover in "Tracks," and the episode features the much-touted Stan Lee cameo. He is someone the team meets while on a train pretending to be couples they are not (Simmons as Coulson's pretend daughter? Amazing).
The train mission is an attempt to track down the Clairvoyant. According to SpoilerTV, "Coulson and his team will be hot on the trail of the Clairvoyant. The team will be boarding a mystery train that, 'seems to be headed for certain death.'"
David Conrad will return in "Tracks" as villain Ian Quinn, who revealed in episode 12 "Seed" that he is connected to the Clairvoyant. "Agents of Shield" returns Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on ABC.
