Robert Mond overcomes a small budget to produce an antidote to the standard cookie cutter superhero flick that’s full of good, if not fully realised, ideas
In Chuck Palahniuk’s 1996 novel Fight Club – and to a lesser extent, director David Fincher’s 1999 film adaptation – the author floated the possibility of a being that was omnipotent but not benevolent. “You have to consider the possibility that God does not like you,” said Tyler Durden. “In all probability, he hates you.”

While DC Comics attempts to play catch-up with their “Divergence” marketing campaign, highlighting new and more diverse status-quo switch-ups along with some #1 issues, Marvel Comics continues to kick ass with more awesome comic books. After Secret Wars, an epic event comic from Jonathan Hickman that changes up the continuity by mashing together the Ultimate and 616 universes, Marvel is coming out guns blazing with the “All-New, All-Different” line of comics. Sure, it’s a little wordy, but it sure is exciting.
Here are six reasons you should be pumped for the new face of Marvel comics.
Diverse casts and all-star creators make up new Avengers books
There are two new Avengers books launching in this new line-up, those being A-Force and All-New, All-Different Avengers. A-Force, which we got a taste of in the Secret Wars tie-in miniseries, is about an all-female Avengers team, with She-Hulk, a character whose dedicated series was sadly canceled,...

The misadventures of single mom Christy Plunkett (Anna Faris), her mother Bonnie (Allison Janney), and Christy’s teenage daughter Violet (Sadie Calvano) are at the core of the off-kilter comedy dished out each week on CBS’ Mom. The irreverent and often-cynical sitcom has already been renewed for a third season and if you haven’t seen it yet, you really should. Here are six reasons why: 1: The Opening Title Theme After each episode’s opening scene, there’s a quick parade of photos featuring Christy’s past – as a pole-dancing stripper, crawling her way through a pet door, hoisting a champagne bottle while … Continue reading →

In nearly ten years since Doctor Who’s resurrection, three of the five still-living actors to play the title role before 2005 have (at least in some capacity) reprised their role onscreen. Peter Davison appeared as the Fifth Doctor, alongside future son-in-law David Tennant’s Tenth, in the 2007 Children in Need minisode ‘Time Crash’. And of course the Eighth Doctor got his long-overdue second TV turn, played by Paul McGann, in the prelude for the 50th anniversary special last year in ‘Night of the Doctor’.
People debate Tom Baker’s appearance, since his enigmatic character – The Curator – was never explicitly stated to be the Doctor, though his brief exchange with the Eleventh Doctor left little doubt that this mysterious man either was, is or could eventually be the Doctor in some form. Otherwise, classic series representation in the anniversary special was lacking.

Henry Cavill and Kaley Cuoco's new romance is heating up - even if it's just to burn calories. The new couple squeezed in some one-on-one time together in Los Angeles this week. The Man of Steel star, 30, and The Big Bang Theory's leading lady, 27, went on a hike, followed by a stop for sushi near Cuoco's Sherman Oaks, Calif., home. Both wearing caps and fitness attire, the duo strolled casually side-by-side when they were photographed mid-workout. The 16 new candidates vying for Lord Alan Sugar's £250,000 investment in this year's edition of The Apprentice have been revealed and, as ever, they're a colourful bunch of characters.
41-year-old literacy and education company director Jaz Ampaw-Farr claims to be "half machine", but her competition, 25-year-old retail entrepreneur Luisa Zissman, might have that beat: "I have the energy of a Duracell bunny, sex appeal of Jessica Rabbit, and a brain like Einstein."
Then there's 27-year-old property investment CEO Zeeshaan Shah, who cites Napoleon as his greatest inspiration, and 39-year-old marketing company co-founder Myles Mordaunt, who calls himself "business perfection personified" and has a name worthy of a Marvel Comics super-villain.
The Apprentice returns for its ninth run on Tuesday, May 7 and will continue on Wednesdays at 9pm from May 8.

When somebody mentions The L.A. Complex, chances are you think one of two things: “What’s The L.A. Complex?” or “Didn’t that show get, like, the worst ratings ever?”
It’s true: When this Canadian import first debuted on The CW in April, its premiere had the dubious honor of being crowned broadcast TV’s lowest-rated drama debut of all time. Phil Gurin, creator and executive producer of The CW’s Oh Sit!, knows there’s something inherently goofy about a game show that revolves around an extreme game of Musical Chairs. Falling Skies Season 2 Review
After spending the last several months mulling and anticipating the Falling Skies season 2 premiere, I finally got a look at the two-part debut including the episodes "World's Apart" and "Shall We Gather at the River". Result: I'm stunned. Since the creative team had little or no opportunity to course correct based on viewer feedback in season one, I sort of anticipated season 2 of Falling Skies would be a reboot in many ways, but I never expected the magnitude of improvements I've just witnessed. Falling Skies has set the standard for prime-time action and Science Fiction and delivered an opening act that finally fulfills the promise of a blockbuster level experience on the small screen. That said, the transition from season one is not nearly as jarring as you might expect. I definitely felt I was in a new world, and the Falling Skies' technical improvements were apparent from the beginning,...

Falling Skies - Six Reasons Season Two Will Rock
For SciFi fans, the real summer season starts this Sunday with the two hour premiere of Falling Skies kicking off on TNT at 9Pm Est. But this is no 'normal' Season Two, not by a long shot. While Falling Skies successfully made it through its freshman season, found its fans, and ended with a cliff-hanger ending that ranks with the all time best, the Steven Spielberg shepherded production also gathered its share of criticisms along the way. Each season is written and filmed before a single episode airs, so there isn't an opportunity for the Falling Skies crew to course correct based on viewer feedback. Keeping that in mind, it seems like the powers that be decided to address the criticisms with a house cleaning, bringing in Remi Aubuchon as the new show-runner. So without that 2-3 episode buffer that network...
