This Saturday night, at 9 p.m., Brian Regan will be the first comedian to broadcast a live stand-up special for Comedy Central from Radio City Music Hall, a place only a select group of comedians could fill in the first place. But unlike those other comedians, Regan didn't get there through celebrity, as he explains it, "I just got lucky enough where along the way, my following just got a little bit bigger and a little bit bigger, and before you knew it I was able to make the jump to theaters without having a TV show." Over the course of a 35-year career, Regan quietly became one of the biggest stand-ups in the country. To interview him, who better than Jim Gaffigan, another comedian with a similar arc? Though Gaffigan's TV Land sitcom, The Jim Gaffigan Show, is wrapping up its first season tonight (it's already been renewed...

For those with plans that night, “Brian Regan: Live From Radio City Music Hall” will also be available on Sept. 27 on the Comedy Central App. The special will be available for download on iTunes,...

Louis Ck dropped new $5 stand-up special “Live at the Comedy Store” — his sixth (video below) — on Tuesday, and celebrated with a very lengthy, occasionally rambling email blast to fans.
Plugging his independent project, the comedian’s note discussed his history with the industry, lamented having to cancel the last of four Madison Square Garden concerts for underwhelming Winter Storm Juno and even pushed his followers to see “Boyhood” and “Into the Woods.”
Ck’s personal rep told TheWrap that there are no plans to reschedule the Msg date at the moment.

Top Five
Written & Directed by Chris Rock
USA, 2014
Chris Rock’s new tour de force, Top Five, is so cleverly written that you don’t even realize it’s a romantic-comedy until the deed is nearly done. By that point, even the coldest, most cynical man is powerless to resist its charms. Smart, nasty and frequently hilarious, there is more than enough substance to compensate for the occasional missteps. Between this and Jon Stewart’s Rosewater, comedians are flexing some serious cinematic muscle in 2014.
Rock gives a stellar performance as comedian-turned-actor Andre Allen. Andre’s dubious claim to fame comes from playing a crime-fighting, live-action teddy bear named Hammy. Similar to Riggan in Birdman, three blockbuster Hammy movies have left Andre hell bent on earning some respect for his acting chops. Respect is hard to come by, however, when your marriage to a reality television star (Gabrielle Union) is more...

Chris Rock is hosting "Saturday Night Live" tonight with musical guest Prince, which is to say it's the making of a perfect episode as far as I'm concerned. Rock's appearance is in an effort to help promote his new comedy Top Five, hitting theaters on December 5, and last night Brian Regan, who has a small role in the film, shared a clip featuring him and Rock. Written, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, Top Five tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen (Rock), whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind. Along with Rock the film features a load of names including Rosario Dawson, J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Romany Malco. Watch the clip below. sb...

How lazy are we willing to allow filmmakers to be in the modern age? This is an era when an homage is a knife’s edge away from being a blatant rip-off, a time when remakes and reboots are so common that it would be news if there was an extended period when each movie opening in theaters was wholly original, at least in that it wasn’t based on a book, musical, TV show, board game, etc. Perhaps a more pointed question specific to this column would be, how lazy are we willing to let a remake of a beloved classic be? Remakes, in general, are a...

Stand-up comic Brian Regan has built a career out of universal appeal, but the "everyman" comic still gets mistaken for Jim Gaffigan (and whoever does a joke about boullouin cubes) when he's out with his daughter in public.
But that's just one of the tidbits Regan shared with me over the phone ahead of his appearance on A Garden Of Laughs, a benefit show at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 26. where Regan will perform alongside Adam Ferrara, Darrell Hammond, Robert Klein, Brian Regan, Ray Romano and Wanda Sykes to raise money for children in need. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.
How stand-up has changed since you started?
“Stand-up’s sort of like music in that it is ever evolving. Certain styles come in and go out, and it’s not as easy to define comedy styles as with music, like reggae or country. Comedy is more elusive in terms of description,...

By the time we know who'll be President for the next four years, the 2012 New York Comedy Festival will descend upon New York City for five days of comedy in the city's biggest venues.
The ninth annual Nycf will kick off on Nov. 7 with a live Ricky Gervais interview by John Hodgman of "The Daily Show," and the Next Big Things event at the Paley Center for Media. The weekend's biggest shows include Bill Maher performing at the Beacon Theater, Aziz Ansari playing both The Apollo and Carnegie Hall, a live conversation with Robin Williams and David Steinberg.
Most notably, comedian Kevin Hart will headline two shows at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 10. Hart joins only a handful of other comedians to have ever headlined there: Bob Hope, George Burns, Eddie Izzard, Chris Rock, Andrew “Dice” Clay and Dane Cook.

Growing up we’re always told that it’s important to set goals, to follow your dreams. But what if you were given a time limit to achieve these (shorter than your expected life span). This is the dramatic theme in the new documentary Dying To Do Letterman. The film follows the journey of a likable professional stand-up comedian in his thirties by the name of Steve Mazan. Growing up his comedy hero was David Letterman, so his goal was to do his act on Dave’s show. Then the fates threw him a curve. His doctor told him that he had cancerous tumors on his liver. Inoperable. Worst case scenario- he had maybe five, six years. Instead of plopping on the coach and bemoaning his fate, Mazan focused in on his Letterman Show dream with a vengeance. After asking his comedy club audiences to email the show, he gets an official letter from NYC.

Halle Berry is back! And this time, as an agoraphobic footwear lover in the upcoming Paul Weiland’s comedy Shoe Addicts Anonymous.
This project is an adaptation of the Beth Harbison novel with the same name, which centers around four Chicago women who bond over their love of footwear.
Or, if you prefer more detailed synopsis: “Four different women. One common shoe size. And a shared lust for fabulous footwear. Helene Zaharis’s politician husband keeps her on a tight leash and cancels her credit cards as a way of controlling her.
Lorna Rafferty is up to her eyeballs in debt and can’t stop her addiction to eBay. Sandra Vanderslice, battling agoraphobia, pays her shoe bills by working as a phone-sex operator. The novel follows four Chicago women who all wear size 7.5 shoes and trade looks. Filming is set to start later this year,...

Halle Berry has been absent from cinema-screen’s since 2007′s Things We Lost in the Fire to concentrate on raising her newly born child. It seems she’s about to make an overdue comeback. Deadline are reporting that she’s been cast in the ensemble comedy, Shoe Addicts Anonymous. The film, an adaptation of Beth Harbison’s bestselling novel, will see Berry play “an agorophobe who feeds her addiction with online shoe purchases”.
Synopsis: The comedy looks at the lives of four Chicago women from different ethnic backgrounds, bonded by two things. They are shoe addicts who wear the same size. They form a support group, swap 7.5s and become—wait for it—sole sisters. Eventually their bond goes beyond footwear.
Paul Weiland (Made of Honour) will direct from a screenplay by Kristen Buckley and Brian Regan (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days). Filming is expected to start in the Autumn.

The projects for Ms Halle Berry just seem to keep piling on don’t they? From Hollywood to Broadway!
This time around, Ms Berry will reportedly star as the lead in an ensemble comedy adaptation of the best selling novel by Beth Harbison, titled Shoe Addicts Anonymous.
In the book, the story is set in Washington, D.C., and centers on 4 women of different socioeconomic backgrounds who are brought together by their shared passion for shoes. They meet weekly to talk and trade, in a kind of support group, and soon their bond grows and strengthens, evolving into something much more than just shared shoe fetishes. The women become fast friends, trusted advisers, and eventually business partners.
Halle will play an agoraphobe who maintains her addiction with online shoe purchases.
The script was written by Kristen Buckley & Brian Regan (How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days), and will be directed by Brit Paul Weiland.

Or is that nightmare? I can’t remember which. In any case, MTV, as they are wont to do, recently asked comedian/actor Dane Cook what comic book character he’d most like to play, and Cook mentioned The Riddler for the Nolan “Batman” films. Or as Cook puts it, “that would be bad-ass.” Check out the full interview below. Dane Cook is a pretty hit-and-miss comedian. You either love him or you don’t. There doesn’t seem to be any real middle ground when it comes to his comedy. I liked him in the beginning — his energy onscreen is awesome. But I haven’t really followed him in the last few years, mostly because I’m all about Brian Regan now, and Cook’s crazy, flipping out onstage doesn’t do it for me anymore. But hey, Cook as the Riddler in a “Batman 3″? I guess that would be okay.

NEW YORK - It was a night of laughs and tears in the Big Apple.
Host Conan O'Brien, Lewis Black, Robin Williams, Brian Regan and Bruce Springsteen were among the stars who took to the stage here Wednesday for an evening of comedic and musical performances to benefit the Bob Woodruff Family Fund.
The star-studded "Stand Up for Heroes", which was part of the fourth annual New York Comedy Festival, brought out a big audience, including such audience favorites as Stephen Colbert, James Gandolfini, Bette Midler, Kelly Ripa, Kimberly Dozier, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams.
Entertainment industry executives also came out in force to the Town Hall theater just off Times Square, including News Corp. president and COO Peter Chernin, CBS Corp. president and CEO Leslie Moonves and NBC Universal president and CEO Jeff Zucker.
The Bob Woodruff Family Fund helps people injured while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Its emphasis is on so-called "hidden signature injuries" of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI) and combat stress disorders.
