In a lengthy post on the band's official Facebook news page, Portuguese gothic metallers Moonspell tossed their hungry fans (this writer included) plenty of fresh meat this week... particularly an update on their long-awaited ninth studio album. This is the first real album news posted by the band since they started discussing ideas for the new record in late 2009 (check out that story here), but at least they're finally working on the follow-up to their international smash Night Eternal. Veteran metal rockers Moonspell have been immortalized on a commemorative postage stamp in the band's native Portugal. Sets of stamps are being printed by the Portuguese Postal Service (Ctt, Correios de Portugal) featuring the artwork from the band's 1995 album "Wolfheart", dubbing it one of the most significant rock records from the country.
The stamp, which costs one euro ($1.30), will be launched on July 19 and Moonspell vocalist, Fernando Ribeiro, admits the honour is a fitting one. He tells Blabbermouth.net: "Being that the whole of our career kick-started as penfriends and tapetraders, we could not think of a more perfect and suitable distinction."
In another news, the rock band is prepping the release of their new studio album which may be in stores in 2011. Ribeiro said the materials are "the most exciting, sexiest, darkest, heaviest and catchiest stuff we've written in ages!"...

In a recent interview with the German version of Metal Hammer magazine (recorded during that country's famous Summer Breeze music festival), Moonspell frontman Fernando Ribeiro discussed the Portuguese gothic-metal overlords' next studio project – something the singer hinted at being even "more blasphemous but also more elegant" than anything the band has attempted before... and that's saying a lot, since elegant blasphemy is this band's stock in trade. Catch the best bits below... Although the video interview begins in German, the reporter switches to English to chat with the towering Ribeiro, who comments how the fest's sunny outdoor venue is sort of at odds with his pale, vampiric nature,...
