Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out. And if you're into box office and how movies might do, come play some of the box office games at EZ1 Productions including their new Pick 5 game!
This Past Weekend:
As expected, Legendary Pictures’ Kong: Skull Island won the weekend, and honestly, the Weekend Warrior’s original prediction of $61.6 million was pretty darn close to the movie’s opening weekend which ended up at $61 million. (Unfortunately, I chickened out on Thursday because my prediction was so much higher than all others and lowered it to $58 million, which was Still closer to than every other prediction last weekend.) Also, as expected (at least by me), Hugh Jackman’s Logan took a 2nd weekend tumble as has been the case with most X-Men movies,...

YouTube has launched today support for High Dynamic Range (Hdr) videos, which the platform says yield higher contrast, better clarity, and a wider color gamut.
“Hdr adds a whole new dimension of creative freedom and visual spectacle, and we've barely scratched the surface of what this means for storytelling,” wrote software engineer Steven Robertson and product manager Sanjeev Verma in a company blog post. YouTube, which has added HD and 4K video capabilities in the past and has also incorporated live streaming, 3D, 360-degree, and spatial audio features, says that Hdr videos mark “the most spectacular image quality we’ve ever streamed.”

Doctor Who is the persistent subject of rumours - from the credible to the outright absurd - and it can be difficult to separate what's fact from what's fiction.
Lucky for you, dear reader, that Digital Spy is on hand to cut a swathe through the nonsense - these are the facts, 100% confirmed, about series 9 of the world's greatest science-fiction series.
Filming began on the 9th series of Doctor Who - its 35th run overall - on January 5, 2015 for a planned transmission in the autumn. Steven Moffat will serve as lead writer and executive producer for the fifth time.
Peter Capaldi will return for his second full series as the Doctor, while Jenna Coleman will be back for her third run of episodes as Clara Oswald.
Coleman was widely expected to be leaving the series in the 2014 Christmas special - and indeed had planned to exit -...

If you had told us, back in Dennis Pennis’ mid-1990s spoof interviewing heyday, that his alter ego Paul Kaye would one day be starring in a TV adaptation of Game Of Thrones and the new Doctor Who series, we’d have likely said, ‘Doctor Who isn’t even on! And there Is no show of that one book by that fantasy guy! Begone, time-travelling demon!’ But we would be sadly wrong (except maybe about the time-travelling bit), as Got veteran Kaye is indeed part of a sprawling cast for the two-part launch for the new series of Who.The BBC has announced that the ninth series of the show – at least since the Doctor came back to screens in 2005 – is now shooting at its usual Cardiff locale, with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman once more starring. Kaye, Thoros in Thrones, will be one of the main guest stars for the two-parter alongside Morven Christie,...

"My name is Sam Tyler. I had an accident and I woke up in 1973. Am I mad, in a coma, or back in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home." Those were the words spoken by John Simm's Sam Tyler at the start of every episode of Life on Mars, summing up the series' central conceit: the investigation of what had happened to Sam Tyler. His anachronistic presence in 1973 might have been the result of madness, coma, or time-travel... or something altogether different. While Life on Mars wrapped up after two seasons, the mystery surrounding Sam Tyler--and Philip Glenister's Dci Gent Hunt--has continued to swirl tantalizingly around Mars' sequel, Ashes to Ashes, which delivered another knock out installment as it continues to head towards its own conclusion as Di Alex...

Superheroes were center stage at the Hollywood Reporter's 38th annual Key Art Awards, held Friday night at the Geffen Contemporary at Moca in Los Angeles.
Sam Raimi, who has directed Sony's three "Spider-Man" movies, accepted the 2009 Visionary Award, given to a filmmaker who inspires movie marketers.
And "The Dark Knight," director Chris Nolan's second Batman movie, led the list of award winners, taking home eight prizes, including three best of show awards for its theatrical poster, theatrical TV spot and home entertainment print.
The animated "Wall-e" was a close runner-up, earning seven awards, including one best in show citation for home entertainment, new release packaging.
Warners, which fielded "Knight," and Disney, which released "Wall-e," earned 10 awards each, as did Paramount, thanks to a mix of films that included "Iron Man," "Tropic Thunder" and "The Godfather: Coppola Restoration" DVD.
