With just one episode of “The Masked Singer” left to go, now is a good time to look back at how well (or not) the four judges — Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke — have done to date at guessing the real identities of the celebrity contestants. Have you done better than them at figuring out which famous faces were hidden behind those elaborate masks?
The best guesser among the judges is Robin, who has correctly guessed four of the nine celebrities. He is followed closely by Nicole, who has gone three for nine. The worst guessers are Jenny and Ken, who have each managed to make just one correct guess so far. Not surprisingly, those two have embarrassed themselves with their inability to figure out who is behind the mask.
For Ken, it was when he didn’t recognize that the Poodle was his one-time co-star Margaret Cho...

Silly me! I didn't even know there was a dispute. I figured the group's members had just moved on to other things - family, other careers, etc. But as I learned this afternoon, there has indeed been a long-standing dispute over who gets to claim ownership and thus exploit the group's name - En Vogue. In summary, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, who got a hold of the official arbitration decision today: - The members of En Vogue entered an agreement that created an En Vogue LLC in 2006. - In 2009, the group (and so the LLC) hired Joe Mulvihill to be their manager, entitling him to a 10 percent commission. - Soon after, one member, Dawn Robinson, left the group on her own...

Although most people don't think of rock bands and R&B groups as corporations, the truth is that many are established by charter and members are equivalent to shareholders. There's also good reason why it might be best to have an odd number of core members -- like 3 or 5 or 7. In the 1990s, the female R&B group En Vogue burst onto the music scene as a sophisticated reincarnation of the girl groups from a previous doo-wop era. Cindy Herron-Braggs, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson and Terry Ellis were the original lineup who produced such hits as "Hold On,

This past Sunday’s Essence Festival not only included a number of Michael Jackson tributes and a reunited Commodores, it also marked the return of one of R&B’s definitive groups. The four original members of En Vogue are back together. The group performed a set of hits at the New Orleans festival and plan to record a new album in the coming year. There was also talk of a group-related reality show, though everything is still in the planning stages.
En Vogue set the template for girl groups in modern R&B, peaking with 1992’s Funky Divas album, which yielded the hits “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” and “Free Your Mind.” Their combination of sweet, powerful vocals with hip-hop swagger (check their Salt-n-Pepa collaboration “Whatta Man”) paved the way for groups like Tlc, Destiny’s Child and Pussycat Dolls. The group’s shifting lineup has always hinged on Dawn Robinson,...
