Just ahead of its fall season rollout, which launches tonight, the CW is already looking ahead, announcing its 2019 summer programming lineup. It features six original series — one new and five returning — including three acquired dramas, as the CW has renewed all of its summer 2018 series. It is one of the CW’s biggest slates of original shows specifically designated for the off-season. The network has acquired British action drama Bulletproof from Sky Vision and ordered second seasons of legal drama Burden of Truth, starring Kristin Kreuk, and fantasy-adventure series The Outpost. The CW has also ordered new seasons of the hit magic series Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters Of Illusion, and the classic improv comedy Whose Line Is It Anyway? all set for premiere in summer 2019. Premiere dates and times will be announced later.
Bulletproof, from Vertigo Films and Company Pictures, follows two undercover cops, Bishop and Pike as they chase down hardened criminals in London’s East End. Pike is an aspirational family man, the son of a decorated police officer who is determined to follow in his father’s footsteps, but not be in his shadow. Meanwhile, Bishop grew up in care homes and on the streets, and never knew his father. Despite these differences Bishop and Pike are bonded by the same moral code and work brilliantly well together even when the chemistry between them looks set to explode.
Allan Niblo Michele Buck Judy Counihan Nick Love Noel Clarke, and Ashley Walters executive produce. The series was co-funded by Sky’s distribution arm, Sky Vision, who control international rights.
Burden Of Truth, starring Kristin Kreuk, is a serialized investigative drama about life-altering legal cases. IFC Films and Entertainment One produces in association with Eagle Vision Inc. with executive producers Ilana Frank, Adam Pettle, Jocelyn Hamilton, Linda Pope and Kristin Kreuk.
Created by Kynan Griffin and Jason Faller, The Outpost, a fantasy-adventure series from Electric Entertainment and Arrowstorm Entertainment, executive producers Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner, follows Talon (Jessica Green), the lone survivor of a race called the “Blackbloods.” In a lawless fortress on the edge of the civilized world, Talon must learn to master her supernatural powers, and ally with a Queen who has been in hiding to defend the world against a fanatical religious dictator. Jake Stormoen, Imogen Waterhouse and Anand Desai-Barochia alsp star.
The Outpost also is executive produced by Electric Entertainment’s team of Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson and by Arrowstorm Entertainment’s team of Jason Faller and Kynan Griffin, the team behind the cult favorite Mythica films. Jennifer Griffin of Arrowstorm Entertainment is also producing.
Penn & Teller: Fool Us is a one-hour competition series celebrating magic and featuring the legendary duo Penn & Teller. Hosted by actress Alyson Hannigan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), the series is created and executive produced by Penn Jillette, Teller, Peter Adam Golden and Andrew Golder in association with 1/17 Productions and September Films (part of Dcd Media).
Hosted by actor Dean Cain (Supergirl), Masters of Illusion features amazing magic performed by cutting-edge illusionists and escape artists, and performers in each episode displaying skills ranging from perplexing interactive mind magic to hilarious comedy routines. The series hails from Associated Television International with executive producers David McKenzie, Gay Blackstone, David Martin and Al Schwartz, along with co-executive producer Jim Romanovich.
Whose Line Is It Anyway?, based on the hit UK format and hosted by comedian Aisha Tyler, features cast members Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie. Along with a special guest comedian in each episode, the cast members put their comedic skills to the test through a series of spontaneous improv games. Series creators Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson executive produce with Jimmy Mulville, Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady and Colin Mochrie. Los Angeles -- Hallmark Channel and Marie Osmond are parting ways.
In a statement Tuesday, the TV channel said it won't renew Osmond's talk show, "Marie," for a second season.
The show's producer and distributor, Associated Television International, said that "Marie" was going into syndication as originally intended. A fall 2014 launch is planned, the company said.
Hallmark said it wants to go in a different direction in daytime: It's decided that so-called lifestyle shows offering how-to tips are a better option on TV and online.
The channel said it expected Osmond to find "great success" in bringing her talk show to syndication.
She'll find a competitive field, which currently includes veteran Ellen DeGeneres and newcomers Katie Couric and Steve Harvey.
New and repeat episodes of "Marie" will air on Hallmark through September.
"Marie" has drawn interest from groups and key stations and will be made available to several outlets nationwide,...

The fate of the Daytime Emmys is uncertain with the news that Associated Television International has bowed out of producing the kudocast. The company rescued the awards show three years ago after ABC and CBS -- which had aired the kudos on a rotating basis -- pulled the plug due to declining ratings. Ati got the Daytime Emmys onto the CW network in 2009 and then brokered a deal with CBS for the show both in 2010 and last year. The 2011 awards drew an audience of 5.5 million. In making the announcement, Ati exec Jim Romanovich said, "CBS did want it again as well as two cable networks for second runs." As to what will happen to the show, he says, "Now is the time for the next generation of Daytime Emmys that should be more practical in execution. I would venture a guess that the very thing I had been discussing for several years,...

The Daytime Emmy Awards are in the market for both a network and a producer as Associated Television International, which produced the awards telecast the last 3 years, won’t return. The company’s Jim Romanovich made the announcement today in a lengthy and somewhat controversial statement on Twitter that had not been authorized by Ati and took his bosses by surprise. He stressed multiple times that he and his colleagues are soap fans, a genre that is rapidly vanishing from daytime and the Daytime Emmy Awards. He acknowledged that producing the Daytime Emmy Awards was “quite challenging” and “never a money making project for us.” The Daytime Emmys got in trouble when ABC and CBS didn’t renew their deals to alternate carrying the Daytime Emmys past 2008. Ati stepped in as a producer and made a deal with the CW where the awards show drew a very small audience. For the past 2 years,...

Emmys: Why Daytime TV Still Matters (Q&A)
Daytime Emmy Award telecast producer Jim Romanovich tells THR he's "waiting" to see if Oprah will attend the June 19 ceremony.
"We're not going to change the format per se, but what we are going to do is enhance what we did last year. You're going to see bigger stars, both from daytime and from Las Vegas. I can tell you that Gladys Knight, Marie Osmond, Penn & Teller, the Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil will all be performing."
True Blood Turns Straight Character Gay… But Which One?
Perhaps no transformation in the show’s colorful history will come as quite as great a shock as the one that we find out about during the HBO hit’s ferociously anticipated fourth season, premiering June 26: A major character, heretofore heterosexual, will be involved in a same-sex romance.

Bio has ordered ten half-hour episodes of the not-yet-titled series. The show will follow her move from Alaska to Los Angeles with her son, Tripp, to work at a small charity in need while living with her good friends Chris and Kyle Massey.
Speaking of the star of their new reality show, Executive Vice President of Programming for A&E and the Bio Channel, David McKillop, said, "Bristol is the kind of personality Bio is drawn to." Bristol Palin is making it a reality show hat trick.
The daughter of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is set to star in a new docu-series for the Bio network, in which she moves in with "Dancing With the Stars," cast mate Kyle Massey and his brother Christopher. According to Bio's press release, the series, set to air in late 2011, "follows Bristol Palin's move from Alaska to Los Angeles with her son, Tripp, to work at a small charity in need while living with her good friends Chris and Kyle Massey."
Palin, of course, has experience with cameras in her home; she was part of mom Sarah's TLC show "Sarah Palin's Alaska." This one, one would assume, will have less shooting of animals.
It was recently revealed that Palin made $262,000 for her work with a teen pregnancy prevention group, The Candie's Foundation. She'll also be releasing a memoir of sorts this summer.
