He had roles in four different "Star Trek" series: Star Trek (1966), Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993), Star Trek: Voyager (1995) and Star Trek: Enterprise (2001). Besides Majel Barrett, who appeared in all five of the "Star Trek" series, he was the only actor to appear in four different Star Trek series. Moreover, as Barrett provided only voiceovers in the latter two series, he is the only actor to have appeared onscreen in four different Star Trek series.
In 1979 he became the first Western Regional Vice President of Actors Equity.
He studied drama at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie-Mellon University, and began his acting career at the Pittsburgh Playhouse.
