10 Iconic Dance Numbers in the Millennium ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Hindi Film Music has witnessed paradigm changes in the Millennium. Songs are now promo tools and barely situational, and lip-sync numbers predominantly dance songs. On International Dance Day (April 29), I choose the 10 truly magnificent dance numbers that will always live on. And yes, I have not included Naacho Naacho from Rrr as it was technically not a Hindi movie!
Budtameez Dil / Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ranbir Kapoor outdid himself in this song, reviving memories of his father, Rishi Kapoor’s mastery of dance! The musical was enriched immeasurably by this by Benny Dayal-Shefali Alvares song, composed by Pritam with delightfully crazy lyrics (Paan mein pudina dekha) by Amitabh Bhattacharya. And if you thought the dance had a hint of Michael Jackson, please remember that legend was its choreographer Remo D’Souza’s idol.

"Office Space," Mike Judge's satirical take on white collar office culture, disappointed at the box office but soon became a cult favorite after it arrived in 1999. That was mostly thanks to home video sales and Comedy Central airing the film multiple times after its theatrical run. But "Office Space" thoroughly deserved whatever cult status it attained, because it always felt very much ahead of its time.

A pair of YouTube insiders are bringing their industry knowledge to a 30-day online course. Colin and Samir have partnered with Kajabi to launch an educational series called Creator Startup.
The course is described as a “live-cohort series” that will include group sessions, guided exercises, and social components. Colin Rosenblum and Samir Chaudry possess many creator economy insights and connections, but their Kajabi course will specifically focus on the business side of their career. A press release from Kajabi describes audience, value prop, process, and monetization as the pillars of the Creator Startup program.
Kajabi CEO Ahad Khan said that Creator Startup will teach students “how to build consistent revenue” on their channels. He described Colin and Samir’s creator economy insights as “unmatched,” though Kajabi is no stranger to the burgeoning online video business. Last March, it announced that it had paid out more than $5 billion to creators through its suite of marketing,...

Fyi, Tubefilter has a podcast.
It’s hosted by our very own Joshua Cohen (that’s me) and Lauren Schnipper. Subscribe to Creator Upload on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen.
Last week, Whalar introduced a plan to build sprawling, members-only campuses dedicated to content creation. And, for just a second, it was 2012 again, and YouTube was getting ready to launch its first Space in London.
There’s a lot about Whalar’s initiative (called Lighthouse) that’s similar to Spaces. It too offers state-of-the-art production facilities–everything from soundproof video and podcast studios to editing bays–where creators and their teams can come and make high-quality content. This was the original idea for YouTube Spaces: that it would provide Hollywood-level sets and equipment for creators to upscale their content.

What is the true cost of turning your dreams into reality? The limits of human ambition have always been a source of inspiration for stories that expose the terrifying underbelly of desires that come at a cost. After all, the tale of someone actualizing their desires at great personal cost makes for compelling horror, the kind that each one of us can resonate with, as it taps into the primal fear of loss. Jordan Peele's revamp of "The Twilight Zone" inaugurated the horror anthology series with this specific sentiment, with the episode titled "The Comedian," which follows the journey of a struggling artist who embraces the limelight at a terrible price.

The Danish startup Podster specialises in globalising local, successful podcasts. This time, the innovative company partners up with local production company Airborne to adapt the Swedish crime investigation podcast “#Fallet”. The adaption will air September 20 through Dpg Media; the largest media company in the Netherlands.
In 1986, 15-year-old Samir was sentenced to psychiatric treatment after being charged with murdering his stepmother. Samir confessed to stabbing her several times. 1,5 years after the conviction, Samir retracted his confession and said it was his father who did it. Was he really innocent?
This investigative podcast was originally created by the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. Swedish journalist Anders Johansson set out on a journey to find out if Samir was indeed innocent. And if so, who actually murdered his stepmother. The show reached millions of listeners in its home market as the episodes unravel new findings through interviews and investigative journalism.

Gang violence disturbs more than just a family or two. It impacts the whole neighborhood where it takes root. The community might get a bad name, and the overall quality of life goes down. The 2019 French film Street Flow, which seemed to be inspired by great movies on the subject of gang violence in the past, brings its own sensibility to the matter. It brings a spotlight to the social issue and makes the otherwise hidden political discourse really shine forth in matters like these. It isn’t a preachy political drama; quite the contrary, it is an exciting and yet somber crime drama, told through the life of the Traore brothers, who in a way represent the past, present, and future of French youth, especially those that are living in suburban areas, supported by welfare schemes by the government. Here’s a recap of Street Flow.

One of the smallest countries in Europe has the highest number of soldiers per capita. This situation is dissected in “Swiss Citizen Soldiers,” one of the six high-end documentaries that will arrive on the circuit in the coming months, and were pitched at the Swiss Films Previews at Visions du Réel, in Nyon, Switzerland.
Swiss Citizen Soldiers
“Switzerland has 200,000 soldiers, by far the most per capita in Europe, and most of these soldiers are switching between their job and military service. Almost a third of them have their roots in another country”: this is the starting point of “Swiss Citizen Soldiers” (Echte Schweizer), by Luka Popadić, his first documentary feature after several short films.
“Eleven months per year, I am a film director. But for one month, I become a captain in the Swiss army,” the director pitched on stage at Visions du Réel. “My parents are from Belgrade.

Film and TV actor Samir Soni recalled working with Bhagyashree and how hesitant she was while shooting a romantic scene with him. He said: “Let me tell you about my first shoot experience with Bhagyashree. Back then, Bhagyashree and I were working on a film, and in the film, I had a big scar on my face, and she was blind, and we fell in love with each other. We were shooting a honeymoon night scene when we were asked to bring some romance to the scene. I was getting closer to her, but she was running away.”
Samir is known for working in TV shows like ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin’, ‘Kumkum’, ‘Parichay’, ‘Darr Sabko Lagta Hai’, ‘Khauff Begins’, and many more. He also acted in films such as ‘China Gate’, ‘Lajja’, ‘Baghban’, ‘Dil Kya Chahta Hai’, ‘Vivah’, ‘Fashion’, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Student Of The Year 2’, among others.

Does not intending to kill count as not guilty? After 12 episodes of “Accused,” we can answer this question without any second thoughts. And the answer is no. But the events that preceded the killing can tell us a lot about the person convicted and whether he or she even intended to kill or not. This is what we will find out in Samir’s case.
Spoilers Ahead

Two things can be true simultaneously; Samir's story was a testament to this.
A private chauffeur struggled to keep dreams afloat on Accused Season 1 Episode 13. This led him to an emotionally numb path in life such that odd behaviors ordinary people quickly notice in themselves passed as okay to him.
Samir led two lives, with one not being his, and it had gotten him to a point where enough had to be enough, but he overlooked that.
The greatest problem in Samir's life was his mother.
Sadly his case is all too common among children from immigrant families. They move to America with hopes of a generation or even several stacked upon them.
The point at which we met Samir was at the peak of his life.
That's not to mean that he didn't have much to live for, but his life had settled on a fixed path, and...

Having Jubal front and center in an episode is always a good decision.
That's even more true when 9/11 gets mixed in like the tragedy was on FBI Season 5 Episode 19.
Muslim terrorists have been a TV boogeyman staple in the 22 years since 9/11. At least this episode was pretty even-handed in its treatment of Muslims.
It was pretty clear that Jubal was going to be at the heart of the episode as soon as Isobel revealed that he would be receiving the Distinguished Service Award.
It was so in character for Jubal to downplay his getting the award as a measure of his longevity instead of the quality of his work.
It's not just his modesty. He also can replay every mistake he's ever made. He's a glass-half-empty kind of guy.
He didn't have time to savor his accomplishment (not that he would have) because the case of the murdered truck driver fell into the FBI's lap.

Welcome to YouTube Millionaires, where we profile channels that have recently crossed the one million subscriber mark. There are channels crossing this threshold every week, and each creator has a story to tell about YouTube success. Read previous installments here.
Colin Rosenblum and Samir Chaudry know what’s up on YouTube.
Actually, they know what’s up across the entire creator space. They started their own Colin & Samir channel in 2016, but they’ve been in the creator business for more than a decade now. They originally met working on the The Lacrosse Network, a YouTube sports network focused on–you guessed it–lacrosse. After selling that channel, they went to work behind-the-scenes, producing content with creators like Dude Perfect and Yes Theory.
When it came time to launch their own channel, Rosenblum and Chaudry didn’t stray far from their roots. Their content focuses on the creator ecosphere from the creator perspective.

After three solemn features centered on the ramifications of war — not just in her home country of Bosnia but, in 2017’s “Never Leave Me,” Syria too — writer-director Aida Begić leaves political conflict behind in her fourth. “A Ballad,” however, charges no less abrasively into the emotional battleground of a young woman’s separation from her long-term partner, and the personal, legal and familial skirmishes that hamper her fight for independence. Very loosely inspired by the 17th-century South Slavic ballad “Hasanaginica,” Begić’s ambitious, jaggedly structured film brashly updates its moral of female sorrow and subservience to far more modern ideals of feminist resolve and rejection of the patriarchy.
Not every one of the film’s swirling subplots lands, just as not all its social and philosophical lines of inquiry come crisply into focus. But this is the most distinctive and artistically exciting work yet from Begić, who won Cannes prizes for her first two features,...

This week’s Roseanne finds the title character in fear of her new Muslim neighbors.
The episode makes no ifs, ands or buts about it: Roseanne’s paranoia stems from years of watching Fox News. She’s convinced Lanford’s new residents are part of a secret terrorist sleeper cell and have come to blow up the neighborhood. Jackie assures her she has nothing to worry about, but it’s not until she meets the neighbors that she begins to recognize her own ignorance.

Investigative piece Chris The Swiss faces €150,000 funding shortfall.
Swiss production company Dschoint Ventschr Filmproduktion faces a shortfall of €150,000 to complete Anja Kofmel’s animated documentary Chris The Swiss after the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (Havc) continues to refuse to pay out €150,000 funding due as part of its cash rebate system.
Kofmel’s investigative feature retraces the steps of her cousin, journalist Christian Würtenberg, who was killed in Croatia in 1992 wearing the uniform of an international mercenary force, the First Platoon of International Volunteers.
Speaking to Screen at this week’s Locarno Film Festival, the film’s producer Samir said that he believes that Havc’s actions come following the formation of a conservative government under Prime Minister Andrej Pienkovic in Croatia and are “unprecedented” in the European audiovisual landscape.
The bone of contention for Havc appears to be the film’s portrayal of the conflict in ex-Yugoslavia.

The Swiss entry for this year's Academy Awards, Iraqi Odyssey is an epic documentary that looks at Iraq from a single, yet complex perspective. The family of filmmaker Samir has scattered all over the world, although they remain committed to their shared dream of a democratic homeland. Here's the official synopsis: Bombs, war, angry bearded men, shrouded sobbing women, shattered cities: this is Iraq as seen through the eyes of the western media these days. These images are juxtaposed with those from the fifties and seventies: films with frivolous music, unveiled women who study, elegantly dressed men in Bagdad, a modern city. How did it come to this? In this riveting and timely documentary, author and director Samir tells the compelling story of his globalized...

When filmmaker Samir first decided to make “Iraqi Odyssey,” he had no idea the movie about his family would be representative of so many others in the Middle East. “Lebanese and even Iranians said, ‘this is our story, our family,'” acclaimed director Samir explained after TheWrap’s screening of his film at the iPic in Westwood Wednesday. “I was like, ‘Ok, this is not my family anymore, this is everybody.'” The film, Switzerland’s official entry for the 2015 Academy Awards, follows Samir’s family as it migrates from Iraq, over more than half a century, to countries across the globe.
