It wasn’t until I started writing this article that I remembered something. A new Hellboy movie, titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man, is coming soon, likely to see release sometime this year.
Ketchup Entertainment acquired the rights last year to Millennium Media’s reboot, which will star Jack Kesy in the title role. But we’ll report more on that project in the coming months.
In the meantime, Deadline has announced today that a documentary on Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, titled Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters, is also coming soon.
Deadline reports that Nacelle (“The Toys That Made Us”) has acquired the doc, with no release date announced at this time. The documentary “tells the story of Mignola — one of the most successful independent comic book creators, who has inspired generations of writers and artists — and how he came to create a world-renowned comic book universe.

Conan O’Brien’s tenure in late night may be over, but make no mistake: Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is still going strong.
The fan-favorite Robert Smigel puppet from Late Night with Conan O’Brien has been forging ahead with solo projects for years — including a sitcom with Jack McBrayer, appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and most recently, a performance taped in January live at the San Francisco Sketchfest.
The live show brought back Triumph’s 2020 quiz show podcast Let’s Make a Poop with Triumph roasting a panel of celebs and leading them through a game of “Poopardy!”.
The full show dropped on YouTube this week. O’Brien has already boosted the special for his hound friend via Twitter/X, and there’s a lot to love here.

"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" hits theaters this weekend (read our review here), and along with the returning casts of both the original "Ghostbusters" franchise and the new generation of specter catchers from "Ghostbusters: Afterlife," there's another ugly little spud making a comeback. That's right, Slimer is back on the scene, green and still kinda mean. Well, at least he's hungry, and if you interfere with his eating (even though he can't really consume the food), he gets super annoyed. Every time Slimer comes back, some of that ectoplasm comes with him, but this time, the visual effects department on "Frozen Empire" came up with some cool new movie magic that they've never achieved with this green ghoul before.
With a little help from Ivan Reitman, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" perfected the recipe for the slime that is so often left behind by ghosts, so getting the ectoplasm residue right was the easy part.

Take a quick trip into the past to explore legendary monster puppeteer Jim Henson's archives. Throughout October, Adam Savage's Tested YouTube channel has been posting videos from their visit to the Henson shop in NYC. One of the best videos is his time spent with The Jim Henson Legacy looking at old archival items while talking about Henson with vice-president Karen Falk. One of Jim Henson's Creature Shops is located in Queens, NY, and it's situated right next door to the "Henson Legacy", the organization dedicated to preserving his history and managing his archives. Savage looks through old artwork and sketches by Jim Henson, while discussing his early work in the 1960s, before he started Sesame Street. As with most of these videos, Savage is clearly geeking out digging into to all this old stuff, and that's part of the joy in watching this. It's wonderful to revisit...

"We're going to be printing these with the original cuts used to make them, on the original press they were printed on..." This will be one of the geekiest videos you watch all year. But that is what makes it so good. Adam Savage's Tested YouTube channel recently posted this video of Savage visiting a legendary prop shop in Hollywood called Earl Hayes Press. During his visit to the shop, the staff decide to treat Adam to a one-of-a-kind, brand new sci-fi prop "replica" of – the police badge ID card from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982). Savage is a huge geek for these kind of props, and learns about how it's made. Something so simple and tiny and barely visible in the movie is made with as much care and craft as all of the sets and costumes and everything else. They make a new ID from scratch - using the exact same material,...

If you've ever wondered, how do they restore old films? What is the process, and how long does it take, and how delicate is it? Then this is a must watch video. Adam Savage's Tested YouTube channel released this nerdy video in December last year, but we've just caught up with it now. How a 100-Year-Old Animated Film Is Restored is a short minute short doc taking a trip to the restoration house known as Blackhawk Films, based in Burbank, CA. The 20 minute video follows the team as they received an old 35mm print of a classic Koko the Clown cartoon from 1924, cleaning up the reel and feeding it into a scanning device. They use a 10K Lasergraphics scanner, then work on cleaning up the rest of the dust and dirt and everything else digitally in computers. I'd love to learn more about the laser scanning machine, and more...

Whenever the tech industry rolls out a new innovation, they always quote some great work of science fiction --- but Silicon Valley doesn't really understand the stories they're reading and watching. That's why the three-time Hugo Award-winning podcast Our Opinions Are Correct is launching a new miniseries called "Silicon Valley vs. Science Fiction," to explore all the ways that tech companies have misinterpreted or misunderstood the great works of the genre, in order to create marketing hype.
The first episode is a deep dive into some unexpected science fictional inspirations of today’s AI products such as ChatGPT – and reveals some of the extremely unsavory underpinnings of Silicon Valley’s AI philosophy. Future episodes will explore how mad scientist stories fueled the “difficult genius” myth among tech CEOs, and how Ayn Rand’s work is implicated in the gig economy.

If you pay close attention to the background of John Landis' innovative 1981 horror-comedy "An American Werewolf in London," you will notice there are numerous Disney-related items placed throughout the character Alex's (Jenny Agutter) apartment. Indeed, she has Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck figurines in her living room, along with a poster of Mickey Mouse adorning her hallway.
Landis carefully and deliberately moves the camera to include these Disney figures in the film's shots, often placing them alongside the main characters in such a way that it draws attention away from the latter. There's even a scene where leads David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) walk through Alex's hallway and Jack stops to smell a flower, only for the camera to suddenly shift so as to bring Alex's Mickey Mouse picture into the frame. When David looks at Alex's television, there is likewise a Minnie Mouse statue coyly smiling on top of it.

An ill-advised tour of the snow-bound Overlook Hotel, as seen in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic "The Shining," can find menace in several of its nooks and crannies. The grim history of the hotel would leave supernatural traces behind –- Scatman Crothers' chef and telepath Dick Hallorann would liken the old hotel's malevolent presence to the scent of burnt toast –- in bloody elevators and time-warped ballrooms. However, one of the most intimidating places on the hotel grounds is a time-honored obstacle for fictional heroes: a towering labyrinthian maze, complete with its own axe-swinging monster.
Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) emerges as the Overlook's greatest weapon, prompting him to attack his family and chase his terrified child Danny (Danny Lloyd) into a nearby snow-flecked hedge maze in the film's climax (read more about the ending from /Film's Max Evry). An early scene in the film gives dimension to the maze without spoilers:

Los Angeles. The land suffocates beneath a cancerous industrial crust that spits flames into a polluted, blackened troposphere. A dark sky weighs heavy on the grim scene, heightening the feeling of hopelessness that plagues this wretched vision. No, this isn't the view of downtown from my apartment. This is, of course, the famous "Hades" shot that opens 1982's "Blade Runner" and establishes director Ridley Scott's vision of 2019 LA.
As former Mythbuster and alarmingly knowledgeable FX dude Adam Savage remarked during an episode of VFX artists react, the "Hades" shot is considered "one of the great effects shots in film history," and includes "every model-making technique there is." What's perhaps most impressive about this and all the other effects shots in "Blade Runner" is that they were all captured in-camera using multiple motion-controlled camera passes on the same piece of film.

You know how it goes sometimes. A drug kingpin (Bryan Cranston's Walter White) and his partner in crime (Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman) narrowly manage to pull off the scheme of the century, plotting the downfall of their biggest benefactor-turned-foe (Giancarlo Esposito's Gus Fring) in as elaborate a hitjob as you'll ever see. But just as the coast seems clearer than it has in quite some time, with the maniacal killer out of the picture for good and his meth-making "superlab" burned to ashes (a location that a recent episode of "Better Call Saul" would retroactively add further layers to), the victors suddenly remember one pesky detail that could make all their desperate efforts for naught: the existence of incriminating surveillance footage on a single laptop hard drive.
