This snuck up on us but our friends at Suspenso in Chile are preparing for their third annual festival and lab. Run by director Patricio Valladares the event will run online this coming week, from the 25th through the 28th. Chile - at least parts where my friends are - is still under a strict lockdown during this time of Covid, but at least the festival is able to provide something this year. There will be online screenings of Antrum, Adrian Garcia Bogliano's Dark Circle, Juan Martínez Moreno's horror comedy Game of Werewolves, wacky Argentine omnibus Terror 5, a rep screeing of the 1989 film Violent Shit from German filmmaker Andreas Schnaas, and two films from Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael:...

“Trügerische Sicherheit”
When it comes to splatter and gore, there’s one country that is infamous for it’s underground scene: Germany. I’m guessing that if you’re a cult film fan, you may have sat through a couple. Whether you like them or not, visionaries like Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik), Andreas Schnaas (Violent Shit) and Olaf Ittenbach (The Burning Moon) – to name just a few – have not only carved out a macabre living for themselves, but have also marvelled and inspired plenty of filmmakers the world over. From arthouse to shithouse, from Diy to moderately budgeted – there is a vast amount of films from Germany’s bloody and gruesome underground film scene for you to discover. Fast forward to today and it’s a bit more of a scarce landscape. Thankfully, Austrian based label Black Lava Entertainment are one of the distributors giving this often crude art form and...

Stars: Barbara Crampton, Andrew Sensenig, Lisa Marie, Larry Fessenden, Monte Markham | Written and Directed by Ted Geoghegan
As a kid growing up in the 80s there were only a handful of women who, at least for this young horror fan, could sell a film on their name alone. For T&A terror it was the likes of Brinke Stevens, Michelle Bauer and Linnea Quigley; but for the real stuff, the truly horrorfying movies it was Barbara Crampton. To this day I will watch any film to which her name is attached, he presence in a movie, especially a horror movie, always elevates the production. Which is why We Are Still Here was pretty much a given at this years Frightfest!
But it’s not just the presence of Crampton that attracted me to this particular slice of New England horror.

Andreas Schnaas' Violent Shit, and its killer Karl Berg ("Karl the Butcher), is back in an all-new film overseen by the original film's producer Steve Aquilina and directed by Luigi Pastore.
Fangoria broke the news today and featured a trailer along with some stills. You can watch the promo here.
Violent Shit was a 1989 German gore flick that spawned two sequels - one in '92 and one in '99. The new film - Violent Shit: The Movie - is merging the bloody excess of those films with a giallo sensibility.

With the demise of the drive-in theater rose the behemoth home video industry – and a torch was passed from one era of low-budget directors and producers to a new batch of underfunded fringe filmmakers. These fresh faces had new technology, and a new distribution game… but a similar reckless abandon and rebellious tenacity as their b-movie forefathers.
Fright fans were introduced to a new breed of horror movies - made for tens of thousands of dollars… or thousands of dollars… or a few hundred bucks and a borrowed video camera. Unpaid amateurs / quasi-professionals made up the bulk of most casts and crews - and often, the directors and producers were quite inexperienced themselves.
Join me for a visit to the heyday of the direct-to-video, micro-budget horror movie. We’ll explore this strange new cinema of the 80s and see how it evolved through the ‘90s. (Be sure to adjust tracking for best picture quality.

With a comic book-styled poster, horror comedy short The Code sees a couple's date go badly wrong when they are attacked by flesh-eating zombies.
But an apparent scheduling mishap with a chainsaw killer, a vampire and Bigfoot puts a whole new slant on the night.
Director Mark Blitch's six-minute, blood-slobbering monster mash-up won 11 awards at Houston's Splatterfest including best film, director, screenplay, editing, kill, splatter and special effects; and audience favourite film, story, kill and make-up.
The full video for The Code, starring Tamara Voss, Taylor James Brandt, Todd Terry and Daylon Walton, is embedded below. There's also an official Facebook page.
More gore is being spilled, this time of the Germanic variety, in Marc Rohnstock's Necronos.
Two new promo pictures have been released as a taster for the movie. One is rather gruesomely graphic, even with the already-censored areas blacked out; the other is included below.

Necronos, one of the mightiest minions of the devil himself, has come to earth to create an invincible army of the undead under leadership of barbaric demons called Berzerkers. Marcus Koch seems to be the go to guy for special effects these days in the indie horror world. Having racked up a number of credits in the past few years including Bloody Bloody Bible Camp starring Reggie Bannister (Phantasm), Tim Sullivan (host of the TV show Scream Queens and director of 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams), and adult film superstar Ron Jeremy. He has also worked on Herschell Gordon Lewis's The Uh-Oh Show, Andrew Allan's Brainjacked, Jay Woelfel's Live Evil and many other films. Marcus Koch has also stepped back into the director's chair with Fell starring Jeff Dylan Graham. Here's what Marcus Koch had to say about his career.
So who is Marcus Koch and what is he all about?
Not sure yet, but, I'm a Pieces. Sometimes I don hideous mohawks, listen to bad 80's music and collect cheesy tuxedo t-Shirts. I love horror films and I love weird art.

Germany’s Timo Rose gave Fango the exclusive first look at the latest trailer for his new gorefest Game Over (see it below), and shared the news about his next project, Karl The Butcher Vs. Axe, which reteams him with fellow Teutonic terrorizer Andreas Schnaas. Game Over stars Fangoria Radio’s Debbie Rochon (pictured), Raine Brown from Rose’s Barricade and Nicola Fiore as three American friends who are kidnapped and tortured when the latter two visit Rochon’s character in Germany.
Go here to read Rose and Rochon’s comments on Game Over, which has a MySpace presence here. As for Karl The Butcher Vs. Axe, it’s the second collaboration between Rose and Schnaas after Unrated, which we last reported on here (and which Rose says is almost done in the editing room). Schnaas will reprise the role of Karl from his Violent Shit series, while Rose will...

No, we don’t mean it’s a trailer that’s unrated (though that’s also true)—German goreslinger Timo Rose (pictured) has given Fango the first peek at the preview for Unrated, his first collaboration with fellow countryman/filmmaker Andreas Schnaas. You can check out the clip below.
Unrated, which we first told you about here, looks to be quite a monster mash of horrific villains, with a heavy dose of Jean Rollin-inspired imagery as well. We’ll keep you posted on when the finished movie is ready to be unleashed!

Fango got word from a source who would know that two of the most notorious German genre directors are about to collaborate. Timo Rose (pictured) and Andreas Schnaas will co-direct a movie with the working title of Unrated, set to lens in their home country in March.
No relation to German filmmaker Frank Montag’s Uncut (which recently filmed in NYC), Unrated is described as “an English-language supernatural flick with ghosts, demons and Timo and Andreas’ requisite gore.” Rose’s credits include Barricade, The Fearmakers and the upcoming Beast, while Schnaas has helmed the likes of the Violent Shit flicks, Demonium, Nikos The Impaler and the new Don’T Wake The Dead. We’ll bring you any Unrated updates we find out!
