Today he may be best known for setting up the multiverse threads of the MCU, but before (and after) taking on the role of Dr. Stephen Strange, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch put together an impressive resume of performances, ranging from the stage to television to the silver screen. After graduating from the University of Manchester's Drama program and earning a master's from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in 2000, Cumberbatch found steady work in the U.K., eventually answering Steven Spielberg's call in 2011's "War Horse."
Since then, he's been a mainstay in Hollywood, with an ardent fan base ready to fight for him online and show up to (most) of his films. Throughout his 20-plus years as a working actor, Cumberbatch has had his share of missteps, but for the most part, his movie choices have typically been sound and his performances solid, even on...

1917 is a war film, released in December 2019, which was heavily inspired by World War I Operation Alberich, or Unternehmen Alberich, as it was called in German. During the said operation, the German forces abandoned two of their salients in Northern France for a better position behind the Hindenburg line (called Siegfriedstellung in German). The titular year was when the widely known retreat operation happened. The movie had quite an easy-to-follow plot line. Our main characters, William Schofield and Tom Blake, who were both lance corporals, were sent out by General Erinmore to deliver a message to the Colonel

When it comes to creeping us out, the folks who come up with grisly safety campaigns are experts. But as we found out via genre-friendly blog iO9, apparently the Dutch had workplace-safety shockers down to an art... literally. Since discontinuing The Week in Sports feature back in December, we've had a lot of requests to revive it. There's just something about images of handsome male athletes in action that our readers never tire of looking at. Who knew we had so many sports enthusiasts around here!
Anyway, while we can't bring it back as a regular feature, we did promise that The Week in Sports would make an occasional appearance around these parts. And this week we did come across a trove of amazing sports wire photos, so we felt we had to share.
This bounty of athletic beefcake – or "sportscake™" as we're calling it – includes shots of Matthew Mitcham and other divers at the Fina Diving World Series, Lebron James, Roger Federer, a bunch of cheeky rugby players, and more! Who knows, maybe it'll give you some ideas on guys to vote for in the Hot 100.
Enjoy!
