- Sarah Schulman was born in New York City in 1958. She is a novelist, nonfiction writer, playwright, screenwriter and AIDS historian.

- Attended the University of Chicago before transferring to CUNY-Hunter College.
- Teaches at CUNY-College of Staten island.
- In June 2001 with Jim Hubbard they founded the ACT UP Oral History Project.
- Early member of ACT UP.
- Enrolled in CUNY-City College's MFA writing program taught by Grace Paley who convinced her to leave as Paley considered Schulman a writer already. She proceeded to drop out.
