Sen. Tim Scott announced on Sunday that he’s suspending his presidential campaign. The South Carolina senator entered the race in May flush with cash, but failed to gain traction while vying for the nomination in a crowded Republican presidential primary race.
He announced the news during an interview with Fox News. “I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they’re telling me, ‘Not now, Tim,’” Scott said on Sunday night during Trey Gowdy’s show, as The New York Times reports.

This week’s “Saturday Night Live” cold open began as a pretty straightforward rehash of the Republican presidential debate from the past week, but then James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump crashed the proceedings and spoke directly to the camera, roasting the various contenders (and their “SNL” counterparts) — and himself.
The sketch opened with Kenan Thompson as Lester Holt introducing a host of “SNL” cast members debuting impressions as Republican challengers. “Welcome to the Republican kids’ table debate,” Thompson’s Holt said.
“My wife said I could try this one more time,” Molly Kearney’s Chris Christie quipped. “I’m excited to look good in comparison,” Heidi Gardner’s Nikki Haley added, while Devon Walker’s Tim Scott rambled on about his girlfriend: “She is real and we’re dating, and for her I feel a real sense of human love.”

James Austin Johnson returned as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, this time with the former president offering a critique of each of his rivals as they participated in the most recent Republican debate.
Tonight’s cold-open sketch — which had the five rivals freezing in place as Trump walked on stage — was a bit of a riff on NBC News, which hosted Wednesday night’s gathering. Given Trump’s wide lead in the polls and his refusal to participate in the debates, the events essentially have been a battle to be the Trump alternative.
“How adorable!” Johnson as Trump said as he first took the stage. “They actually think they’ve got a chance. Sad in some ways, but in other ways, funny.”
“Can you believe it, folks? Ninety-one indictments, four trials and I am still the best choice.”

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) debuted his mysterious new girlfriend at the third Republican presidential primary debate on Wednesday night.
Mindy Noce, with whom Scott has been in a relationship for nearly a year, joined him on stage in Miami for a photo. His supporters have been curious about the romance since May, when he mentioned that he was dating someone.
The famously single Scott’s vagueness about his personal life while on the campaign trail has left people suspicious about his personal life. He often said he was too busy to date and has been outspoken about his anti-lgbtq views. The U.S. has not had an unmarried president in more than a century.
Noce is a Charleston-based interior designer and renovation consultant and a mom of three.
Scott is trailing badly in the polls after being viewed as a top-tier candidate before entering the race.

During her first night on the air after the resolution of the SAG-AFTRA strike, “Daily Show” guest host Sarah Silverman wasted no time celebrating the historic Hollywood moment.
“It is a big night. The SAG strike is over, which means Hollywood can finally get back to what they do best: turning your children gay,” Silverman said at the top of her final episode hosting the Comedy Central show.
Most of Silverman’s opening monologue was devoted to dissecting Wednesday night’s GOP debate. But the comedian did sneak a couple of strike-related jabs into her time on the show.
While talking about the first public appearance of Tim Scott’s girlfriend, Mindy Noce, Silverman gushed that it was nice Scott “finally” found love “with a respectable-looking woman just two months before the Iowa caucus.”

The fundraiser has brought in more than $7.8 million so far and is operated by Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, a nonprofit based in Kent, Ohio.
Emhoff, whose father, First Gentleman Doug Emhoff, is Jewish, has told reporters that she does not consider herself to be Jewish.
Last week, President Joe Biden called for a humanitarian pause to the bombings, in response to a protestor’s interruptions that he should call for a ceasefire. He clarified that a “pause” was meant to be “time to get the prisoners [Israeli hostages] out.”
Biden said, “This is incredibly complicated for the Israelis… It’s incredibly complicated for the Muslim world as well… I supported a two-state solution, I have from the very beginning.’

Update: As expected, Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis clashed at the third Republican debate, engaging in extended tussles and accusations that the other has been coddling China.
Their clashes were largely between themselves, with relatively little time spent on the runaway front runner in the race, Donald Trump.
Haley has been critical of Trump in previous debates for running up the deficit, and DeSantis tonight ran through a list of criticisms, including why he didn’t “drain the swamp.” But neither candidate engaged in the kind of sustained barrage of Trump that would be expected, particularly since the former president has not only skipped the debate and belittled them, he has been counter programming the events.
“This is the debate … in case Donald Trump chokes on a cheeseburger,” MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell said in some of the post-commentary.

When five Republican presidential candidates take the stage at Wednesday night’s debate in Miami, host network NBC is hoping to limit the number of moments where candidates talk over one another.
That was one of the features of the last Republican debate, marked by instances of unintelligible verbal tussles. At one point, Vivek Ramaswamy shot back at Sen. Tim Scott (R-Sc), “Thank you for speaking while I am interrupting — interrupting while I am speaking.”
This time around, there will be two fewer candidates on the stage, something that could ease a bit of the pressure on contenders to make their mark during the two-hour time frame. In addition to Ramaswamy and Scott, former Un ambassador Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have qualified.

When NBC News broadcasts the third Republican debate from Miami on Wednesday, it will be a slimmed-down field.
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Un ambassador Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Sen. Tim Scott (R-dc) made the cut.
The Republican National Committee increased the criteria for participation, with candidates needing at least 70,000 campaign donors and 4% support in at least two national polls, or one national poll or two early state polls.
Candidates also need to have signed a loyalty pledge to support the eventual nominee, something that has kept frontrunner Donald Trump from qualifying. But the former president has indicated that he plans to skip all of the debates, and is counter-programming this week’s debate with a rally in south Florida.
NBC News is hosting the debate from the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, set to air from 8-10 p.

Outsted Fox News star Tucker Carlson will appear in his first major public event since his April canning on Friday, when he hosts an Iowa presidential forum presented by Blaze Media.
Carlson will speak one-on-one with five candidates at what is billed as “The Family Leadership Summit” — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson. The talks start at 10 a.m.
Former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, is not slated to appear. Neither is former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the candidate who has been the most critical of Trump on the campaign trail.
Following the forum, Carlson will appear on a special episode of “Glenn TV,” for what is being billed as “an intimate conversation” with another former Fox News host, Glenn Beck.

The Supreme Court ended its latest term in devastating fashion, ruling that businesses can discriminate against gay Americans before striking down President Biden’s plan for relieve student debt relief for an estimated 43 million Americans. The rulings came a day after the conservative court deemed race-base affirmative action in college admissions unconstitutional.
The court’s three liberal justices — Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan — delivered scathing dissenting opinions, calling out their “let them eat cake” colleagues for taking a hatchet to the longstanding measures to protect and uplift marginalized Americans.

Sean Spicer, after teasing an exciting “new project” upon his exit from Newsmax while promising a continued presence on YouTube, has kept one end of the bargain, at least.
Two months ago, Spicer left the conservative cable news channel after three years as host of his own primetime show, “Spicer & Co.” The former Trump press secretary has since embraced YouTube even as an audience has mostly failed to materialize, also partnering with an upstart video platform and making guest appearances on NewsNation.
In near-daily YouTube videos of a few minutes in length, Spicer has stayed true to the right-wing political ramblings that became the expected fodder on his Newsmax show.

Never make jokes about golf – or is it, never make jokes about the 9/11 terrorist attacks? As Greg Gutfeld found out on Wednesday night, it’s definitely both.
Jokes that clang on the studio audience have become a regular part of the “Gutfeld!” schtick on Fox News late night, and the namesake host dropped a doozy amid a monologue about the merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia-based Liv Golf. This time, the unwise wisecrack earned him 10 seconds of near-silence.
Gutfeld served up the blockbuster sports merger as the main topic of his opening monologue, fully aware he was out of his element. But one sequence of gags led him straight to dead-air:
“I mean, it’s Saudi Arabia,” Gutfeld began. “Does the game start making changes? Like hiding IEDs in sand traps?”
That got a short burst of nervous laughter from the live audience, and Gutfeld kept rolling:

Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), who just announced his bid for the GOP presidential nomination, was a guest on The View on Monday when things started to get out of control.
During the segment, Scott was asked about his views on racism by one of the liberal hosts, Sunny Hostin.
She specifically asked him about his opinion on systemic racism, as he is known to have a controversial take. This comes after he had a debate with cohost Joy Behar about the topic, and the hosts hoped to get more clarification on his view.
Scott went on to define systemic racism as “a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today.”
He believes that black people who are successful today are the rule and not the exception, while many liberals believe the opposite.

“The View” moderator Whoopi Goldberg may typically align more with liberal candidates running for political office, but that doesn’t mean she won’t ever support a Republican. On Tuesday’s episode of the ABC talk show, the host admitted that Republicans can get her vote — they just have to own up to some things first.
Goldberg’s sentiments came as the panel was discussing the decision of New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu to not enter the ever-expanding pool of GOP candidates for president in 2024. Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin was heartbroken by Sununu’s decision, having been a vocal proponent of his for weeks, including when he stopped by “The View” itself.

In a fiery video Monday night, Drew Barrymore called out media outlets like Fox News that misrepresented comments she made during a recent interview, in order to falsely claim that she wished her mother dead.
“You know what, to all you tabloids out there, you have been f—ing with my life since I was 13 years old. I have never said that I wished my mother was dead. How dare you put those words in my mouth,” the actress and talk show host said in the clip, posted to her Instagram account.
“I have been vulnerable and tried to figure out a very difficult, painful relationship while admitting it is difficult to do while a parent is alive, and that, for those of us that have to figure this out in real time, ‘cannot wait,’ as in they cannot wait for the time that the parent is dead,” Barrymore elaborated.

The tension was high this morning on The View as Republican presidential candidate and South Carolina senator Tim Scott stopped by. Things between the conservative politician and the co-hosts got heated that Whoopi Goldberg had to ask production for help amid a chaotic debate.
One of the tense moments was when Sunny Hostin brought up the subject of systemic racism to Scott. The co-host and former prosecutor asked him to define it, as he had previously stated he didn’t believe in it. While Scott was answering, Hostin brought up the issue of homelessness within the Black community.
“You had your chance to ask the question. I’ve watched you on the show. You like people to be deferential and respectful, so, I’m going to do the same thing,” Scott told Hostin.
The conversation continued and being that the ABC talk show is live, time can get out of hand sometimes.

Republican presidential hopeful Tim Scott appeared on “The View” on Monday morning and yes, he and the hosts did butt heads at various moments. At one point, he and Sunny Hostin were caught mid-argument when the show returned from a commercial break.
It’s unclear what exactly the two were sparring on, though it appeared to be about the show’s attempt at getting someone else to appear on an episode. When the camera came back to the table after the break and the mics were turned back on, Hostin could be heard telling the U.S. senator, “We invited him on the show, he wouldn’t come.”
It seems the two didn’t realize the show had returned, as moderator Whoopi Goldberg quickly chimed in letting them know.

TV news can help a dozen soundbites from politicians go viral on any day. One recent social-media uproar stirred by CBS News came not from flagship programs like “CBS Mornings” or “CBS Evening News,” but from “Red & Blue,” a program available only through streaming.
On a recent Wednesday, CBS News political correspondent Caitlin Huey-Burns nabbed an interview with Senator Tim Scott, the Republican presidential hopeful, and made sure to ask him his stance on federal limits on when women might be able to terminate a pregnancy. Scott gave all kinds of answers, but none of them directly answered her questions. The exchange made news — even though it debuted first in a place where, in another era, it might have gotten lost.
Correspondents would like to do more of these kinds of interviews, says Huey-Burns. “He hadn’t defended a position before, so we saw that as an opportunity. Once people...

Donald Trump defended his anti-abortion position in a video address to an evangelical group a little more than a week after Rolling Stone reported that he has been telling allies on the religious right, “We are getting killed on abortion.”
“Those justices delivered a landmark victory for protecting innocent life. Nobody thought it was going to happen,” Trump told the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition in a video address Saturday night, subtly reminding the group that he appointed Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“They thought it would be another 50 years.

The Florida state legislature passed a six-week abortion ban on Thursday afternoon, leaving Ron DeSantis to sign the bill into law. He did so almost immediately, signing the bill in a ceremony surrounded by supporters.
“We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said of gutting of reproductive rights, which is already being challenged in court. “I applaud the Legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families.”

Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced today that Fox News will host the first official Republican debate of the party’s 2024 presidential primary race in August in Milwaukee.
The date hasn’t been set yet, she said in an interview on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends this morning.
She said that participants would be asked to pledge going into the event that they will support the eventual Republican nominee, whomever that may be. Donald Trump is the current front-runner, according to polls. “It’s about beating Joe Biden,” she said.
“Let me ask you this, as R.N.C. chair… if I said I wouldn’t support the nominee of our party I’d be kicked out. So why would we host a debate stage without every candidate saying I’m going to support whoever the voters choose, and the voters want that.”
While the number of candidates isn’t yet known,...

Former president Donald Trump is planning a party in South Carolina on Saturday, but he’s having trouble convincing state lawmakers to attend. So far only Sen. Lindsey Graham and S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster are expected to show their support at his upcoming rally.
The Washington Post reports that Trump’s team has been making “pleading phone calls” to other potential supporters across the state, but many are responding with less than enthusiasm. That’s because South Carolina lawmakers are not yet ready to commit to a candidate, especially...
