If there's one thing that you can say about Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," it's that the three-hour historical epic about the father of the atomic bomb boasts an incredibly deep bench. Nolan packs the film with well-known and well-liked actors, with many big names seemingly happy to sign on for little more than a cameo if it let them be part of "Oppenheimer." But aside from the Matt Damons and Kenneth Branaghs, there's also a surprising number of cast members who began their careers as child stars.
Some came up during the mid-2000s golden age of the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, while others date back decades earlier. Also, several have since gone on to lead well-developed and respected careers, while others are still in the process of proving themselves as adult actors in their own right. Whether they're child stars who audiences are surprised to see in grown-up roles,...

At 180 minutes, it’s not improbable to think there are no deleted scenes for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Sometimes, fans look forward to home release materials getting packed with extras, but Cillian Murphy is here to burst the bubble, saying what you see is what you get when it comes to Nolan’s latest opus.
Speaking with Collider, Murphy said there’s a meticulous method to Nolan’s madness, leaving no opportunity for scenes to fall onto the cutting room floor. “There’s no deleted scenes in Chris Nolan movies,” Murphy commented. “That’s why there are no DVD extras on his movies because the script is the movie. He knows exactly what’s going to end up – he’s not fiddling around with it trying to change the story. That is the movie.”
Murphy’s well-versed in Nolan’s ways after teaming up with the acclaimed director on multiple feature-length projects.

Robert Oppenheimer to the big screen. One of this summer’s biggest cinematic events, Oppenheimer, brings the story of US scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer to the big screen. Director Christopher Nolan’s film is the latest of many portrayals of the so-called “father of the atomic bomb” on page, stage and screen. Here are six of the most intriguing. 1. The Man Who Would Be God by Haakon Chevalier (1959) This novel is particularly fascinating in that it was written by a friend of Oppenheimer, who played a role in his downfall. In winter 1942-43, Chevalier sounded out Oppenheimer’s stance on passing secrets to the Soviet Union. Oppenheimer’s delay in reporting this conversation to US security services and inconsistencies in his testimony about it, were key – along with his opposition to the hydrogen bomb...

“Now I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds” is the famous quote from the Bhagavad Gita that physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer spoke upon witnessing the first denotation of a nuclear device, as the world entered the new era of nuclear weapons. Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s epic drama about Oppenheimer, his work on the Manhattan Project, and his treatment after the war. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, this summer’s Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. Sounds pretty intense, yeah? Well according to Nolan himself in a new chat with Wired, it’s “kind of a horror movie.”
“Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated,” Nolan tells the outlet. “They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings. But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.”

Universal’s three-minute “Shooting for IMAX” featurette focuses on the use of IMAX cameras to bring audiences the complete Oppenheimer experience. Very little new footage is revealed while writer/director Christopher Nolan, director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema, and the film’s stars Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr discuss the advantages of filming in IMAX and how immersive the viewing experience becomes when IMAX cameras are used.
“Oppenheimer’s story is one of the biggest stories imaginable. Our film tries to take you into his experience, and IMAX for me is a portal into a level of immersion that you can’t get from other formats,” explained Christopher Nolan.

Christopher Nolan has been a champion for the most immersive experience that can be had at the cinema. This does not mean he would shoot a movie in 3D like James Cameron, though. Nor does this mean one of those 4Dx theaters where the chairs move with various elements being thrown at the audience during the movie. Nolan’s long-preferred method is the IMAX format. For those that do not know, the IMAX film (which was predominantly used for nature documentaries in the past) is the highest-quality image possible that can be printed, and the picture is expanded in size. Nolan would shoot in this format for his Dark Knight movies, Dunkirk and most recently, Tenet.
Universal Pictures has just released a featurette that shows how the crew shot his upcoming drama, Oppenheimer. The movie is about one of the most significant world-changing events and involves sequences of a grand scale.

After "Tenet" gave us the ultimate spy movie about guys being dudes, Christopher Nolan is once again diving into the world of war thrillers and international espionage (kind of) with "Oppenheimer."
"Oppenheimer," of course, is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who spearheaded The Manhattan Project, which resulted in the creation of the first successful nuclear bomb. The real Oppenheimer ended up being responsible for shaping the world we live in, but he also ultimately regretted his work because of how it endangered the future of mankind.
Nolan has enhanced each of his films by pushing for practical effects whenever possible, and "Oppenheimer" is no exception. This is a movie that attempted to replicate nuclear detonations without CGI -- so far, there's been no actual confirmation that Nolan didn't just commission a nuclear bomb for the movie. Indeed, Nolan had such a desire to make this as realistic as possible...

The 2024 Oscars race received a jolt on Monday morning with the debut of a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”
In the best teaser yet for Nolan’s upcoming drama about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, title star Cillian Murphy and supporting player Matt Damon as Lt. General Leslie Groves Jr. are given the lion’s share of material. A particularly pithy exchange:
Groves: “Are we saying there’s a chance that when we push that button, we destroy the world?”
Oppenheimer: “The chances are near zero.”
Groves: “Near zero?”
Oppenheimer: “What do you want from theory alone?”
Groves: “Zero would be nice.”
Murphy has appeared in six Nolan films including “Oppenheimer,” but the upcoming Universal release is the first time the “Batman Begins” star has taken a lead role for the filmmaker. “You realize this is a huge responsibility. He was complicated and contradictory and so iconic,...

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer reveals more story details and characters from the biographical drama chronicling the development of the first atomic bomb.
The trailer — which was first shown at CinemaCon and then revealed in theaters before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — shows scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) teaming with General Leslie Groves Jr. (Matt Damon) to assemble a team of scientists during World War II as they try and beat the Nazis in harnessing the destructive power of nuclear energy.
“You’re the man who gave them the power to destroy themselves,” Oppenheimer is ominously warned. “… and the world is not prepared.”
The World War II-set biopic follows Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” during a moment in history when he knew that testing the atomic bomb might ignite the atmosphere and destroy the world, but hit the button anyway. “In learning about that story,...

Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. The psychological thriller is considered by many to be not only one of Hitchcock’s finest movies, but one of the best of all time. The project does have some star power behind it, as Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the leading role of the former police detective forced to retire after an incident in the line of duty causes him to develop acrophobia and vertigo.
The Vertigo remake is set to be scripted by Steven Knight, the Peaky Blinders creator who recently signed on to write the new Star Wars movie. Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey will produce the remake through their Team Downey banner, alongside John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment. The original 1958 film starred Jimmy Stewart as John ‘Scottie’ Ferguson, a former detective obsessed with the hauntingly beautiful woman he was hired to investigate.

For better or worse, 2022 has been the year of Florence Pugh.
“Don’t Worry Darling” reached a level of pop culture relevance that most arthouse films can only dream of, with film festival attendees and celebrity gossip addicts hanging on every detail of the rumored feud between Pugh and her director and co-star Olivia Wilde. But while the film’s reviews were mixed, nobody denied that Pugh gave a phenomenal performance in the lead role. Captivating industry observers while having the acting chops to justify the attention is the stuff that movie stars are made of.
Pugh won’t be leaving the limelight any time soon, as her upcoming film slate leaves her well positioned to capitalize on her current momentum. She’s currently working with directors ranging from Christopher Nolan to Denis Villeneuve, and will be seen everywhere from indie dramas to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Nope, “Barbie” isn’t the most anticipated film of 2023, according to writer-director Jordan Peele.
The “Get Out” and “Nope” auteur is counting down the days instead until Christopher Nolan’s nuclear biopic “Oppenheimer” debuts in theaters. During the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked “Oppenheimer” cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, who collaborated with Peele on “Nope,” about what to expect from the black-and-white IMAX film.
“The thing is, it is really hard for me to talk about this film because we simply haven’t really sort of all together agreed what we can say and what we want to say,” Van Hoytema said, “so I’m just going to shut up.”
Peele added, “I don’t work for the film, I don’t have a contract or anything. All I can say is, I am so envious I didn’t get to be on set for this production. The talent is incredible.

Christopher Nolan is taking practical effects to the next level.
While “Avatar: The Way of Water” director James Cameron is in a race against Marvel movies in terms of VFX digital effects, Nolan opted not to use computer-generated effects for the upcoming atomic bomb origin story “Oppenheimer.” That’s right: Nolan literally blew things up.
“I think recreating the Trinity test [the first nuclear weapon detonation ever] without the use of computer graphics was a huge challenge to take on,” Nolan told Total Film (via Games Radar). “Andrew Jackson — my visual effects supervisor, I got him on board early on — was looking at how we could do a lot of the visual elements of the film practically, from representing quantum dynamics and quantum physics to the Trinity test itself, to recreating, with my team, Los Alamos up on a mesa in New Mexico in extraordinary weather, a lot of which was needed for the film, in...

One year from today, the world will play witness to two major new films: one is Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” and the other is Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” While we’ve seen plenty of looks of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling all dolled up for the former, Universal chose today to drop the first “Oppenheimer” poster for Nolan’s highly anticipated new film.
The one-sheet may not be exactly what many are expecting from a movie about the man who invented the atomic bomb – and yet, it’s also in lockstep with Nolan’s approach to genre. While “Dunkirk” was a World War II film, it was largely a dramatic thriller. And “Oppenheimer” looks to be eschewing the traditional biopic route in favor of something officially described as an “epic thriller.”
To that end, this explosive poster gets the job done. Check it out below.

Christopher Nolan has begun filming his atomic bomb drama “Oppenheimer,” starring Cillian Murphy in the eponymous role of Manhattan Project leader J. Robert Oppenheimer. Murphy is leading his first Nolan tentpole after playing supporting roles in five of the director’s movies. When it came time to prepping for “Oppenheimer,” Murphy skipped over all the mechanics of what makes an atom bomb and instead focused on the man himself.
“[I prepped by doing] an awful lot of reading,” Murphy recently told The Guardian. “I’m interested in the man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does to the individual. The mechanics of it, that’s not really for me — I don’t have the intellectual capability to understand them, but these contradictory characters are fascinating.”
Murphy drew a connection between the contradictory nature of Oppenheimer and that of his “Peaky Blinders” character Tommy Shelby. The actor said, “People identify with that, because we all walk around with these...

Kenneth Branagh, fresh off the Oscar-nominated success of “Belfast,” will reunite with Christopher Nolan on “Oppenheimer.” The two have previously teamed up on “Dunkirk” and “Tenet.” Branagh will play an unspecified role in the ambitious and pricey look at J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in creating the atomic bomb. Branagh recently starred in “Death on the Nile” and earned Academy Award nods for directing, producing and writing “Belfast.”
Universal Pictures and Syncopy also announced Tuesday that principal photography has commenced on the film and revealed a moody first look of star Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer. In the snapshot, Murphy is pictured staring intently while smoking a cigarette. That’s certainly true to the historical record. Oppenheimer was a chain smoker who eventually suffered from throat cancer.
Written and directed by Nolan, “Oppenheimer” is produced by Emma Thomas, Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Nolan. It will film in multiple U.
