- Generally credited with discovering Steven Spielberg.
- A very moving script fell into his lap while head of Universal, and he knew that only one man was right for the job, so he sat down with his friend & colleague, Steven Spielberg, and told him he should do it.. and he did, it was Schindler's List (1993).
- Responsible for the substantial changes made to Legend (1985) for its American release. He also tried a similar tactic with Brazil (1985) but unlike Ridley Scott and his film Blade Runner (1982), Terry Gilliam refused to compromise and prevailed in the end.
- Co-owned a large apartment on the 62nd floor of Trump Tower in Manhattan with Steven Spielberg.
- In a memo, which appears in "Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History", Sheinberg long believed, and attempted to persuade Steven Spielberg that the title of the movie should be changed to "Space Man From Pluto" to avoid the film from appearing as a "genre" (i.e., time-travel) picture. He even suggested three dialog edits that would make it a thru line in the movie, including changing Marty's line identifying himself as "Darth Vader from the Planet Vulcan" to the thru line. Fortunately, his suggestion was not taken and movie history remains intact.
