Emmy-winning executive producer David E. Kelley and Oscar winner Barry Levinson lead Peacock psychological crime thriller “The Calling.”

“What do you do when the world is falling apart around you?” is a question “The Good Fight” has been spending five years answering. First came the daily anxieties of the previous presidential administration, which gave way to daily anxieties about the pandemic. In the opening of Season 6, all of those issues are made manifest in an unending state of unrest in the streets outside the law offices of Reddick and Associates. Through all the explosions and horns and other noise coming from the area right beyond the walls of the ground floor, life goes on for the people inside.
But it’s not the additional chaos that’s standing out in the show’s final season. Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald) and their fellow associates aren’t succumbing to the pressures of white supremacy, corporate takeovers, and eroding rights. Watching an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is kind of like meeting someone new for the first time: It's awkward as hell. Larry David, the show's creator (of "Seinfeld" fame) and main character, is a master of the neurotic. On the show, he plays an embellished version of himself who is constantly getting into petty tiffs with the show's rotating cast of characters, guest stars (including Ted Danson as perhaps one of the best frenemies TV has ever seen) who often play souped-up versions of themselves, as well. But what makes "Curb" and its actors so impressive is that the script for each episode is sparse — usually consisting of nothing more than a general plot outline without actual lines — leaving it up to the actors to decide exactly what their characters are going to say and do.
When you have a show that's almost entirely improvised, it's important to find...

Zimmer will play the role of Anna, Sullivan will play the role of Paul Serra, Shenkman will play the role of Rabbi Cermak, Cebrián will play the role of Brad Holt, and Davenport will play the role of Marcie.
Constance Zimmer, Chris Sullivan, Ben Shenkman Rafael Cebrián and Danielle Davenport will all appear in the series. They join previously announced series lead Jeff Wilbusch and cast members Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson, and Michael Mosley.

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for “Billions” Season 6, Episode 12, “Cold Storage,” including the ending.]
As far as four-word thesis statements go, “Things you do matter” is about as efficient as they come. When Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) offers that sentiment up to Rian (Eva Victor) as a means of persuasion, it’s an effective blanket statement for the whole of “Billions” Season 6. The would-be benevolent billionaire makes speaks these words as an acknowledgment that none of his own actions come without consequences, however much he thinks he has the means to ignore them. But as has been the case for pretty much every major player this season, it’s always as important to consider to whom those things matter.
Per federal regulation, all “Billions” finales must start in medias res. While this one doesn’t have the same bait-and-switch as its predecessor (the “He here?” twist from the end of Season 5 is still a classic), this...

It took writer and director Aaron Sorkin fourteen years after the initial meeting with Steven Spielberg at his house on a Saturday back in 2006 to finally get “The Trial of the Chicago 7” made. And according to Sorkin, it finally came together thanks to former president Donald Trump.
“I don’t want to give Donald Trump credit for anything, but he’s the one who got Chicago seven made,” Sorkin tells moderator Jimmie Briggs at The Wrap’s screening series of the film. “Because he would have these protests, he would have these rallies, and there would be protesters at the rallies, and he would start getting nostalgic about the old days when they ‘Carry that guy out of here on a stretcher,’ ‘I’d like to beat the crap out of him,’ ‘Let’s punch him right in the face.'”

You’d think that a bunch of Yippies nominating a 145-pound pig, cheekily dubbed “Pigasus,” for president would need showcasing, but Aaron Sorkin is of a different mind. The venerable writer/director’s criminally pigless picture, The Trial of the Chicago 7, focuses instead on the eponymous group’s protracted trial following its heavy involvement in anti-war protests in ’60s Chicago.
Fiery bellies and a gravitational pull toward positive change drove these men to become ardent faces of a festering distaste for the United States’ wartime priorities. And Sorkin’s searing film does a decent job driving that earnestness home. It may skimp on necessary emotional beats and become more innocuous than it intends, but there’s an undeniable relevance to Sorkin’s latest effort that ultimately makes it a worthy expenditure of cognitive juice.

So, they obviously hit at that in this Trailer, which should excite any cinephile, along with Oscar buffs. It’s going to be a player, that’s for sure. After an explosive teaser trailer during Sunday Night Football in which Aaron Sorkin declared “the whole world is watching,” Netflix has released a more sentimental and fuller look at the drama of “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” one in which Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman explains what he’s willing to give to keep the revolution going.
“How much is this worth to you, what’s your price,” a reporter asks Hoffman in the trailer. “To call off the revolution? My life,” he replies.
Press also got their first look at “The Trial of the Chicago 7” on Tuesday, as the film figures to be a big Oscar player for Netflix. “The whole world is watching,” we hear chanted repeatedly in the first The Trial of the Chicago 7 trailer. After riots, which may have begun due to the excessive force by the police, overtook the 1968 Democratic National Convention, the federal government tried to charge a group of counterculture activists with conspiracy in one of the most infamous trials in American history. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, and featuring an all-star cast headlined by Sacha Baron Cohen, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Mark Rylance, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the Netflix film merits global consideration. Subscribers will have access to the film starting on Oct. 16
The Trial of the Chicago 7 was originally going to be released by Paramount Pictures, but the studio sold the distribution rights to Netflix due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Trial of The Chicago 7 was initially set to be released in September, but the deal between Paramount and Netflix pushed it back a few weeks.

Netflix has a mighty arrow in its awards quiver this season with the release of writer/director Aaron Sorkin’s long-in-the-works drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” dropping on the platform October 16. The streamer unveiled a first teaser for the film during the LA Rams/Dallas Cowboys Sunday Night Football game. Watch below.
The film boasts one of this year’s most impressive casts, including Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, Jeremy Strong, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “Chicago 7” chronicles how the peaceful protest outside the 1968 Democratic Convention unraveled into a fatal clash with police officers and the National Guard. The organizers of the protest — including Abbie Hoffman (Cohen), Jerry Rubin (Strong), Tom Hayden (Redmayne), and Bobby Seale (Abdul-Mateen) — were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot and the trial that followed was one of the most notorious in history.

Aaron Sorkin’s upcoming Netflix drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” boasts one of this year’s most impressive casts, including Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Frank Langella, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But also among the ensemble, and re-teaming with Sorkin for the first time since 2017’s “Molly’s Game,” is “Succession” star Jeremy Strong. The film chronicles how the peaceful protest outside the 1968 Democratic Convention unraveled into a fatal clash with police officers and the National Guard. According to a Vanity Fair first look at the movie, coming to Netflix on October 16, Strong was a die-hard method actor while on set, going to extremes to let the riotous atmosphere of the period seep into him.
According to Sorkin, while filming riot scenes on location in Chicago’s Grant Park, Strong demanded that an ex-cop starring as a storm trooper in the movie throw him to the ground before each take.

We expected “When They See Us” to do well in the Emmy nominations, but we had no idea it would do this well. Telling the true story of the five boys wrongly convicted of a brutal rape in New York City, it earned 16 nominations overall, including Best Limited Series, Best Movie/Mini Writing (Ava DuVernay and Michael Starrbury) and Best Movie/Mini Directing (DuVernay). But where it really walloped us was in the acting categories, where it received eight bids. That’s the second most acting nominations ever for a limited series.
The all-time record is 13 nominations, shared by “Rich Man, Poor Man” (1976) and “Roots” (1977). Those totals were massive, but they’re a little deceptive for “Rich Man,” since it had eight acting categories to compete in, twice as many as there are now. In addition to the categories for continuing performances, there were four more categories for single performances,...

Fourth of July week is upon us, and American patriotism in 2019 has gotten, shall we say, complicated by such realities as migrant children in detention camps, the rise of white nationalism and a president for whom despots are his squad goals. So if you’re like me and you aren’t looking forward to a military parade on Independence Day, here is a selection of media to enjoy for this … unique moment in the American experiment. These nine movies, TV shows, songs and albums are literally all-American — they all have “America” in the title — but they wrestle with the complexities of American life in ways that are especially relevant right now.
