Jam-loving rockers would welcome a drop-in by Jay-z or Kanye West, though.

Chicago — Lollapalooza planners couldn't have come up with a pair of headliners for Saturday night (August 6) that are more diametrically opposed then Eminem and mind-expanding Louisville rockers My Morning Jacket. It's one of those bookings that makes things a little easier on fans who were torn on Friday night between the bombastic prog rock of Muse and the crowd-pleasing arena rock of countrymen Coldplay.
But even with the stiff competition from Slim Shady at the other end of the grounds, on Saturday morning a confident Jim James said he was sure his band's fans would find their way to the north end of the field.

If you've never been to San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Park then you may not know that it's the kind of place where barefoot types are very likely to break out into spontaneous dance between bouts of stick juggling and hula hooping.
Which is why the lineup for the 2011 Outside Lands Music & Art Festival is perfect for the historic patch of green in the City by the Bay. The fourth annual edition of the fest, scheduled for August 12-14, will be headlined by Muse, Phish (who will play two sets), Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Mgmt, the Decemberists, Erykah Badu and the Warren Haynes Band.

Panic! at the Disco came into the 2011 Musical March Madness tournament brimming with championship confidence, and, after making quick work of Avril Lavigne in the opening round, it appears as if that swagger was justified.
But now, as we enter the second round of Mmm, the guys in Panic! face another tough challenge, this time in the form of #13 Florence and the Machine, who handled Brandon Flowers with relative ease in their first-round matchup.
Second-round voting is now under way in the Panic/Florence matchup over on the Newsroom blog!
So while Panic! still like their chances of advancing to the Sweet 16, they're not about to overlook Florence (or her Machine). The way they see it, they're...

Gaga channels '90s dance music on new track celebrating individuality.

Fun, empowering and over-the-top. Those are the first adjectives that come to mind upon hearing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." Between Gaga's empowering lyrics and the music's heavy club influences, the song is set to appease her fans and pop lovers everywhere who had no idea what Gaga had up her meat sleeves for this highly anticipated single, which debuted early Friday morning (February 11).
At first listen, it sounds a lot like a '90s club anthem that could have been pulled right out of Madonna's "Vogue" period, complete with rhythmic spoken-word parts. But upon a closer listen, Gaga's distinct voice makes the song all hers.
"It doesn't matter if you love him or capital H-i-m," she says on loop at the song's beginning, "because you were born this way,...

Pink had a bit of a scare during one of her high-flying stunts at a show in Nuremberg, Germany, on Thursday, when she fell into a stage barrier and was immediately rushed to the hospital. According to her Twitter updates from the hospital, however, she didn't break anything and was "just seriously sore."
"Okay. Full steam ahead, people," she tweeted on Friday morning (July 16), apparently determined to perform the same day in Salem, Germany. "No pain, no gain. Or is it no brain, no pain? Either way, I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl:)"
During the opening bars of her hit "So What," a video posted online shows dancers helping Pink into her harness.

Singer/songwriter delivers passionate set at Bowery Ballroom.

New York — Ryan Leslie declared his independence in a big way Tuesday night, when the singer/songwriter performed to a packed house at Manhattan's Bowery Ballroom on the first of a two-night residency.
Leslie recently parted ways with his label, Universal Motown, after releasing his self-titled debut and last year's Transition. But as he sets out on his own, this performance proved a worthy showcase for the talented star's range of skill, as a singer, producer and composer.
"This here is about one of my favorite holidays," he said, moving behind the keyboard to deliver a pleasing talk-box-aided vocal homage to Zapp and Roger's "I Want to Be Your Man" before segueing into "Valentine."
"I don't have to say that you're beautiful," Leslie sang in a falsetto tone. "You've got plenty...

Hole frontwoman reaches out to estranged daughter, 140 characters at a time.

Early Monday morning, Courtney Love had what she referred to as a "Twitter relapse," and, boy, was it a doozy.
While most of the world was asleep, the Hole frontwoman — who, in recent weeks, has embarked on a rather thorough career rehabilitation plan — launched an all-out Twit-missive toward her estranged daughter, Frances Bean, of whom she lost legal guardianship late last year. Love tweeted Frances nearly 40 times over the course of an hour.
In the tweets, Love gives her daughter a whole lot of relationship advice ("don't have an assistant as a boyfriend"), begs her to "clear my name," apologizes for not marrying a man who may very well be Edward Norton, says she misses spending time with her and concludes by saying she's going to go chant (and delete...

Attention "Twilight" lovers: If you've memorized every note of the "New Moon" soundtrack, you're in luck: On June 8, you'll be able to get your hands on the next soundtrack in the series, "Eclipse."
The release date was first posted Monday (April 19) morning on Amazon.com, and subsequently confirmed to MTV News by a spokesperson for Atlantic Records, which will be releasing the soundtrack in conjunction with music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas' Chop Shop Records.
No official announcement has been made about just who will be appearing on the soundtrack to "Eclipse" (the film itself hits theaters on June 30), but some reports on "Twilight" fansites have already penciled author Stephenie Meyer-faves Muse onto the album, which makes sense because they've already appeared on the first two editions of the "Twlight" soundtracks.

But that doesn't mean they're willing to accept all comers. Take, for example, frequently weepy, left-wing-conspiracy-touting Fox News talking head Glenn Beck. It seems the man who earlier this year referred to President Obama as a "racist" is a huge Muse fan. Beck tweeted his love a few weeks ago, when he gushed, "New Muse CD. Amazing. Imagine, for a second, that Lady Gaga didn't dress like a member of wrestling team Demolition, pose for fashion spreads wearing nothing but the rings of Saturn around her head or give interviews dressed in the carcasses of Kermit the Frog. Imagine if she didn't speak her mind, delight in tweaking the media or treat her fame as one gigantic, Warholian art project. In other words, imagine if she were just another boring, bottle-blond, midriff-bearing pop star.
I know all that is pretty difficult to consider — without any of the flair or the insanity or the nudity, Gaga just wouldn't be Gaga — but if you somehow managed to strip away all the ephemera, what would you have left? Would Gaga still be interesting?...
