Guess there is a lot more that would be heard and spoken about Mr. India 2 and the controversy surrounding it for many more days and weeks to come. Ever since it was announced that filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar would help a trilogy on the subject, filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor has brought out his daggers condemning the announcement of the film. While there are many who have welcomed the announcement of the film(s), considering the cult status that the Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri starrer has enjoyed for decades, there are detractors too.
As a matter of fact Shekhar Kapoor has hinted that he may take a legal recourse pertaining to the film’s announcement since he wasn’t involved in its conceptualization and subsequently the announcement. This is where certain members of the industry are wondering if the move would indeed be justified. Reason being that a long time back,...

After three years of no-show, Anuja Chauhan's 2008 bestseller The Zoya Factor has fallen out of Shah Rukh Khan's hands and gone to rival producer Manmohan Shetty instead. The novel about a young Delhi girl's almost-telepathic affinity to the Indian cricket team was grabbed by Shah Rukh's Red Chillies. Apparently, at that point of time the novel's heady mixture of glamour and cricket had appealed to Khan. As a time flew by, the novel remained unused. And now it has gone to producer Manmohan Shetty's Walkwater Films. Hopefully, Chauhan's novel would now be filmed rather than left to hibernate. However, when contacted Manmohan Shetty's daughter Pooja said they haven't yet decided what to do with the novel, or how to film it. Tragically Chauhan's other bestselling novel The Battle For Bittora seems to be suffering a similar fate. Its filming rights were acquired by Saregama nearly two years ago.

After meeting many such producers, Chaudhary ended up self-financing his film with the help of a cinematographer friend and the film went on to win the grand jury prize for the best short film at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles in April this year.
It wasn’t any easy for a Mumbai-based film editor Vinoo Choliparambil when he decided to turn director with his short film Vitthal. It was year 2008 and Vinoo had been working in the film industry for five years and had edited films like Ram Gopal Varma’s Phoonk 2.
No producer was interested in producing Vinoo’s film and finally he had to go the independent way. He put in all his savings...

Cannes -- Oscar winner Shekhar Kapur will direct "Paani" (Water) from a script by David Farr, having secured the $30 million budget from Swarovski Entertainment and Adlabs founder-turned-producer Manmohan Shetty.
The project idea has occupied Kapur's mind for 10 years and, after pressure from fellow filmmaker Danny Boyle and Shetty's insistance that "he gets on and makes it before it's too late," Kapur plans to shoot in November with additional backing from Walk Water in Singapore, Dubai and on large purpose-built sets being designed by John Myrhe.
Boyle will get a producer credit of some kind for his efforts, Kapur said and the project also marks the first full-length feature backed by Swarovski's start-up entertainment arm.
A. R. Rahman has written two original songs for the project, Kapur said.
The project is a love story set in a mega city in a future where precious H20 has all but run out...
