Netflix has given the green light to The Beast In Me, a limited series headlined and executive produced by Claire Danes. In addition to Danes, the mystery thriller project, created, written and executive produced by Gabe Rotter, is executive produced by Jodie Foster, Conan O’Brien via Conaco and Homeland co-creator/executive producer Howard Gordon who will serve as showrunner, reuniting with the acclaimed series’ star/executive producer Danes. 20th Television is the studio; Gordon is no longer under a deal at Sony Pictures TV, which explains his involvement.
The surprising mix of big names attached to the series reflects its long, twisty path to the screen — indicative of how hard it often is to get a show made — which we will get into in a bit. The story may also inspire aspiring writers not to give up.

Exclusive: The Good Doctor creator David Shore has re-upped his overall deal with Sony Pictures Television, extending his long-running relationship with the studio behind the hit ABC medical drama, which was just renewed for a fifth season.
Under the rich new four-year pact, believed to be in the eight-figure range, Shore will continue to executive produce and run The Good Doctor, as well as develop projects for the studio under his Shore Z Production banner.
With the new deal, Shore and Sony TV’s partnership will cross over the decade mark next year, one of the longest current showrunner tenures at Sony — and any TV studio. Other creative talent who have been at Sony TV for a long time include fellow showrunners Vince Gilligan, Shawn Ryan, Josh Berman and Robia Rashid as well as producers Doug Robinson, Neil H. AMC Studios is doubling down on overall deals – striking agreements with Perry Mason exec producer Rolin Jones, Killing Eve exec producer Gina Mingacci and Rectify creator Ray McKinnon.
This builds on previous overall deals including Fear The Walking Dead star Colman Domingo and comes as the company looks to grow its production arm.
All three have previously worked with AMC Networks; Mingacci, who was previously VP, development and current programming at BBC America, on Killing Eve, Jones on pilot Knifeman and McKinnon on SundanceTV’s Rectify.
Jones returns to the AMC fold, where he previously was under an overall deal, before moving to 20th Century Fox and Fox 21.
The arrangement with Mingacci is interesting given it marks one of the first times that a current executive at a British production company – in this case Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films – has struck an overall deal with a U.S.

Solstice Studios has acquired “Unhinged,” a psychological thriller from “Disturbia” screenwriter Carl Ellsworth and “Warrior” producer Lisa Ellzey. The studio is currently out to directors. The script revolves around an extreme case of “road rage.” It’s the story of a mother whose decision to hit her horn upsets the wrong guy and leads to some very violent consequences.
It’s one of the first projects acquired by Solstice, a newcomer to the studio space. It launched in 2018 with the goal of producing three to five films a year that are geared at global audiences and acquiring an additional two to four films annually. Solstice releases will typically carry budgets between $30 million to $80 million. Major studios are steering clear of films in that price range in favor of making even costlier superhero films, leaving a hole that Solstice would like to fill.

David Shore, creator, executive producer and showrunner of The Good Doctor, has signed a new three-year overall deal with the studio behind the breakout ABC medical drama, Sony Pictures TV.
The new pact will bring Shore’s tenure at Sony TV to almost a decade. He originally joined the studio in 2012 with a three-year eight-figure deal that allowed him to build up his banner Shore Z Prods. into a full-fledged production company. It is run by Erin Gunn who is overseeing numerous projects in development, including anthology Accused at Paramount Network, which is in consideration for straight-to-series order.
In addition to developing new projects, Shore will continue as executive producer/showrunner on The Good Doctor, which finished the season as the #1 new drama on television (16.7 million L+7 viewers). The medical drama, based on a South Korean format, earned star Freddie Highmore a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Dr.

With the motion picture Concussion already a topic of national conversation among NFL fans and commentators, Sony Pictures Entertainment is offering NFL players and their families free admission to the movie during the duration of the film’s run, which begins on Christmas Day.
The studio has already engaged many current and former NFL players, holding private screenings in each team’s city in advance of its opening. By reaching out to the people who are most impacted by the film’s themes, the studio is engaging with the NFL players to join the national dialogue about the film.
Commenting on the announcement, Ridley Scott and Producer Giannina Scott (who first brought the project to him and produced it with him), said, “This is a movie for the players, so we wanted to give them a chance to see it before its nationwide release and free admission during its run in theaters.

Exclusive: Law & Order veteran Rene Balcer has come on board CBS‘ drama pilot The Ordained as executive producer/showrunner. Balcer has a history with the project, having helped the creator, journalist-turned-author Lisa Cullen, with conceptualizing the idea when she first conceived the show in 2011. Back then, Cullen took out Ordained as a pitch but it didn’t sell. Cullen went on to write it as a spec, developing it with her management company, The Shuman Co. The spec was sent out to TV studios last summer, landing at CBS TV Studios where studio-based Frank Marshall came on board as executive producer. After the script was picked up to pilot by CBS, the producers looked for a showrunner. Because of Balcer’s previous involvement, he was a top choice and was available, leading to his deal on the project. He will be executive producer alongside Marshall, Larry Shuman and A.B. Fischer.
