The first new play of the current Broadway season, a stage adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel “The Kite Runner,” has closed on Broadway. A memory play that toggles back and forth between 1973 and 2001 and from Afghanistan to California, it depicts a youthful friendship that transcends class distinctions and an incident that irrevocably changes the two mates’ life trajectories. Amir Arison and Eric Sirakian starred as Amir and Hassan, respectively, under the direction of Giles Croft. The play took flight at the Hayes Theatre on July 21 and concluded its limited engagement on Oct. 30.

Um, maybe this wasn't the best way to honor someone like Kurt Cobain. Yes, it is the thought that counts. But what if that thought looks ridiculously creepy? Aberdeen, the Washington state hometown of the late, great Nirvana front man, wanted to celebrate what would have been his 47th birthday by declaring Feb. 20 "Kurt Cobain Day." Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson said the town "should have done this a whole heckuva long time ago," but they are making up for it with an unveiling of a statue of Kurt Cobain that will be on display at the Aberdeen Museum of History. Again, it's a nice gesture, but all it takes is one look at the statue (above and below) and you'll see why we're hesitant to...

Kurt Cobain Day In Aberdeen
For years, the city in which Cobain grew up had been hesitant to honor the Nirvana frontman, who publically struggled with depression and drug abuse leading up to his suicide at the age of 27. Now, 20 years after his death, Aberdeen has officially named a day in his honor, reported the Seattle Pi.
As part of the inaugural Kurt Cobain Day celebrations, a statue constructed by local sculptor Randi Hubbard was installed at the Aberdeen Museum of History. Hubbard began working on the sculpture in 1994, and has since had it on display at her store, Hubb’s Muffler Shop. Until now, the city hadn’t been comfortable accepting the work of art.
