“Harley” director Jean-Cosme Delaloye has wrapped production on a documentary celebrating pioneering Detroit techno music producer Carl Craig.
“Desire: The Carl Craig Story” is structured as an intimate portrait of Craig and an ode to his beloved Detroit. With Detroit’s decline and recovery as a backdrop, the film follows the career of producer whose genre-defying techno has been performed to jazz enthusiasts at the Montreux Jazz Festival and in the premier classical auditoriums around the world, including Carnegie Hall. The film features artists including Gilles Peterson, Roni Size, Laurent Garnier, DJ Minx, Kenny Larkin, Moritz von Oswald and James Lavelle, who worked with Craig and played a major role in bringing techno and electronic music to the masses over the years.
The globe-hopping documentary moves from dance floor to dance floor with stops in Detroit, the Montreux Jazz Festival, London, Bristol, Chicago, New York and Ciudad Juarez among many other places.

If there is one defining characteristic about composer Max Richter, is that he refuses to stay within any preconceived boundaries. Classically trained at Edinburgh University and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer Luciano Berio in Florence, from there Richter’s career went in a variety of directions. He did traditional compositional work, collaborated with acts as varied as The Future Sound Of London, Roni Size and Vashti Bunyan, and issued his own complex and acclaimed solo work. So it was only a matter of time until the movies came calling for Richter’s unique, soulful and avant work, and the last decade has seen him contribute to films such as the animated “Waltz With Bashir,” the Wwi drama “Lore,” the sci-fi “Last Days On Mars,” the intimate “Wadjda” and many more. But always looking for a further challenge, Richter has now tackled his first TV gig with...

Rusko, the British dubstep and drum and bass producer who knows a thing or two about blending hard-driving bass with catchy melodies, is back with a new Ep, "Lift Me Up." One of the tunes on the Ep, "Murda Sound," is debuting exclusively on HuffPost Entertainment -- just as the three-track record heads to release on Skrillex's imprint, Owsla.
"Still on a drum and bass kick, I wanted make something totally dance floor, gnarly and more traditionally DnB," Rusko explained. "It's influenced by the sounds of my youth! I had more fun making this track than any other on the Ep, and I hope you do too."
When what's often been derided as "brostep" -- "face-melting," brickwalled tracks that swap out nuance for "harder" sounds -- cannibalized the American dubstep market, Rusko was outspoken about the need for more well-crafted tunes in the genre. "Murda Sound" continues that commitment.

Roni Size has been accused of pushing his ex-girlfriend down the stairs and breaking her heel The 41-year-old DJ, who won the Mercury Music Prize in 1997 with the Reprazent collective, allegedly attacked Jane Andrews after an argument in July, The Guardian reports. Andrews told jurors at Bristol Crown Court that the pair had a row about her whereabouts the previous night and that he grabbed her and threw her down the stairs after she ended their relationship. "I went down like a ragdoll from top to bottom," she said. "I put my good leg out after I'd hit the third step but just watched my leg go over and I didn't touch anything else before I hit the bottom. "My bone came out all the way. It was like a mushroom cloud when a bomb goes off. I sat there crumpled. He stood halfway down the stairs and just smiled.

The Jonas Brothers have a very clear, straight-ahead sound, but the individual members have more esoteric aspirations that come alive in their individual work. Last year's album by Nick Jonas and the Administration traded in power pop for a throwback brand of synthed-up funk rock, and Joe Jonas' upcoming solo project promises to dive headlong into a more electronic place. In a recent conversation with MTV News, Joe revealed that his biggest inspirations lately have been acts like Daft Punk and Justice. "Artists you can dance to, electro stuff, DJs in Europe — they're all very exciting to me," he explained while sitting next to producer Danja.
Of course, dance music crossed over into the pop world in a big way in 2010, with a handful of DJs grabbing mainstream attention (like David Guetta and the members of Swedish House Mafia) and many high-profile stars (including Usher, whose "Omg" was declared...

For reasons even I don't entirely understand, I have been reading a lot of old issues of Spin magazine recently. Most of the best issues in my personal archive (which is vast, by the way — a combination of issues I kept and ones I acquired when I worked at Spin from 2004 to 2007) are from 1996, 1997 and 1998. It's the '97 issues that most blow my mind, as they are filled cover to cover with the last gasp of the grunge era, lots of coverage about how Diddy was killing hip-hop and, perhaps most importantly, a full-court press over the electronica revolution that was supposedly in the process of changing the way we listen to rock music (especially in the "alternative" universe).
A bit of context: After grunge fell apart in the wake of Kurt Cobain's suicide, record executives, trendspotting fans and music writers were desperately digging around for the next big thing in the rock world.

Over the past few weeks, I have been diving into my stash of old copies of Spin magazine, mainly entries from between 1996 and 1999 (the same era when music meant the most to me, not coincidentally). The search has yielded some awesome gems from the era, mostly because Spin was at the forefront of the "electronica" movement of the late '90s (wherein we were all supposed to trade our guitars in for samplers and artists like the Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin and Roni Size were supposed to represent the future of rock and roll). So in the midst of all the indie rock that still sticks around the magazines, there is an alarming amount of page space devoted to breaking down wacky subgenres and talking about the business of making dance music. The December 1997 issue is an excellent example of this, as it focuses on American electronica and discusses the...
