- Giorgos Skalenakis was born on May 17, 1926 in Port Said, Egypt. He was a director and actor, known for Epiheirisis Apollon (1968), Diplopennies (1966) and Vyzantini rapsodia (1968). He died on September 14, 2014 in Athens, Greece.
- Studied direction at the Prague Film Academy (FAMU) together with his friend Milos Forman.
- Also an acclaimed teacher of many Greek directors in Likourgos Stavrakos' Film and Television School as well as of actors and actresses in Drama Schools.
- Was the personal choice of the great actress and international movie star Katina Paxinou for the direction of To nisi tis Afroditis (1965) (i.e. "Aphrodite's Island"), the only film she played in her native Greek language.
