- He composed the benefit song "The Sampleton" for Artsen zonder Grenzen (Doctors Without Borders) in 1996.
- In more recent years he was the director and arranger of the "Orchestra Strato-Vani", who played popular evergreens.
- He studied accordion with Jules Willems, and at the conservatorium van Mechelen, Belgium and in Boston (USA).
- Smets was Flemish singer, musician, composer, arranger and producer.
- The collaboration with The Maessen sisters resulted in a new group "Dream Express" with Luc the only male member with The Hearts Of Soul sisters.
