Even before going into a live Kiss show I had to admit I've never been a huge fan of the rock icons. Their songs always felt a little bland and maybe a little too commercial even if the film Detroit Rock City suggested otherwise. I do enjoy a few of their hits but have never understood the extreme fandom. So when they hit the stage at the Enmax Centre last night, I may not have been screaming at the top of my lungs like some of the other 45-year-old maniacs clad in Affliction or aged Kiss concert T', but I enjoyed myself. I was mainly there to sink in as much of opening band Shinedown as possible because being a big fan of theirs; I knew their setlist would be an abbreviated one. When they hit the stage, lead singer Brent Smith asked the audience how many people were seeing Shinedown for.

If you read the previous two months of Superman then you’re already aware of what happens in this book. It’s a shame to see Clark Kent depicted so well over in Action Comics at the start of the month and then be given these formulaic stories at the end. Once again, Superman battles a foe linked with the classical elements (First issue: fire, second issue: air – an invisible monster.) who is dispatched without providing any real answers.
Many people think Superman is a boring character because he’s too powerful to ever face a considerable threat, but Superman was never about the power itself, but what he uses the power he has for. Most of his battles devolve into fist fights,...

Up-and-coming bands like Shinedown are helping Warner Music Group pull off the hardest trick in the music biz: redefining the record label for the digital age.
On a chilly night in Manhattan, Julie Greenwald is steamed. "I hate free! Why should people get music for free?" says the 40-year-old spitfire COO of Atlantic Records, one of two major labels of Warner Music Group, and the first big label with more U.S. music revenue from digital downloads than physical discs. She's in the VIP room backstage at the Nokia Theatre, where Atlantic rock act Shinedown headlines a sold-out show. "Music isn't free!" she says.

"The Crow & The Butterfly" music video from Shinedown has made its way out for viewing pleasure. It features women putting on heavy make-up and dancing around with their partner in a huge ballroom while the band provide the song for them.
The music video was filmed in June in the middle of the band's tight schedule on the road for The Carnival of Madness tour. "I have to admit we have been so busy with the current tour we are on, and putting everything together for 'The Carnival of Madness,' we haven't even gotten a chance to ask all of you what you think about the song, and also what kind of video you would like to see from us," frontman Brent Smith told fans back then.
Taken from Shinedown's 2008 studio album "The Sound of Madness", "The Crow & The Butterfly" becomes their first single to rule Billboard Rock Songs chart.

Washington, January 31 - An entertainment marketing expert has advised viewers to take the Grammy Awards seriously despite the fact that it recognizes popular music the most.
Brent Smith, Ph.D., an assistant professor of marketing at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, insists that the Grammys offer a chance for less popular artists to be recognized as well, unlike the American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards determine winners by greatest gains in record sales or radio airplay.
Smith said: “To some degree, every brand must stay relevant with mainstream.

Times are tough. Staind and Shinedown realize this, which is why they've created their very own stimulus package.
On Friday (May 8), the hard rockers announced plans for the Stimulate This! tour, a four-band bill that will be bargain priced for concertgoers feeling the pinch during the current economic downturn.
Kicking off July 1 in Peoria, Illinois, the trek also features Chevelle and Halestorm, and will make stops in more than 40 U.S. markets, including some hardest hit by the recession. Tickets will cost less than $40 — with some venues offering lawn seats for less that $10 — and each stop will also feature additional promotions, like discounts on concessions, deals at local retailers and online rebates for band merchandise.
