Before we begin this exercise in nostalgia gone awry, two things of note. I only watched The Star Wars Holiday Special for the first time, and am writing this review, as a stretch goal for The George Lucas Talk Show‘s fundraiser for Feeding America. And this review will contain spoilers for the Mandalorian Season Two finale, which I wrote about here.

10 Things I Hate About Life starting filming in 2012. Four years later, it's disappeared. What's happened?
1999’s 10 Things I Hate About You was one of the prize picks from a rich selection of teen movies of that particular era. Loosely based on William Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew, the movie starred Julia Stiles and the late Heath Ledger in its lead roles, with an impressive supporting cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Allison Janney and Larisa Oleynik.
It was, in hindsight, a modest box office success, bringing in just over $50m off a $30m budget. But for those schooled on 1990s teen cinema, 10 Things I Hate About You is regularly cited as a favourite. With good reason, too: it’s a very good film, that’s stood the test of time well. It’s also one more reason why the world misses Heath Ledger.

If there is one aspect of the X-Men movie franchise that makes comics fans see red, it is the depiction of Cyclops (a.k.a. Scott Summers). Especially as played by James Marsden in first three films, he is a petulant, sniping, jealous, and ineffectual twerp, often used as a counterpoint to Hugh Jackman’s more dynamic and sympathetic Wolverine before being dispatched altogether soon into 2006’s The Last Stand.
Over at Comic Book Resources, Gary Smith has uncovered plenty of evidence directly from the pages of Marvel comics indicating that Cyclops has demonstrated some serious character flaws over the decades, both in his professional and personal life. At one point midway through the article, Smith says, “As a superhero he’s one of the best; as a man he’s often somewhat less so.” But by the end of the article, not even Cyclops’ reputation as a superhero ...

Friends of Don Ranvaud remember the recently passed producer-sales agent-academic. “He was guided by ideals in a world where this is becoming rarer,” Salles tells Geoffrey Macnab.
Don Ranvaud was one of the most colourful figures on the international film circuit, a globe-trotting producer-sales agent-journalist-academic whose methods were sometimes chaotic but who inspired enormous affection and loyalty. Following his death last weekend, figures from across the industry have paid tribute to him.
“Don was a passionate, inspiring friend, and all of us who had the privilege to collaborate with him in Brazil are shocked and saddened by his disappearance,” director Walter Salles told Screen. “Don’s whole life revolved around cinema, and it is telling that he passed away in a film festival [Ranvaud suffered a hear attack at the Montreal Film Festival on September 5].

Two-time Best Actress winner and third-oldest Oscar nominee still living, Olivia de Havilland is understandably rarely seen in public. So we must send our precious thanks to satirical British magazine The Oldie, who honoured Olivia in their annual awards as one of their 'Oldies of the Year' and managed to elicit both a photograph, signed letter and a recorded thank you from the star, which was played at their ceremony this Tuesday and can be heard over on the BBC website.
The Illustration she's holding is by Gary Smith who has been featured on the site before.
In the letter, she made note of her early withdrawl from public life:

Howard Guttenplan, the longtime Executive Director of NYC’s Millennium Film Workshop, passed away on February 23. He was 80 years old.
Founded in 1966, the Millennium was named by and originally run by filmmaker Ken Jacobs, who was succeeded by short tenures by George Tenneille and Gary Smith. Guttenplan was then named Executive Director in 1971 — a position he would keep for the next 40 years when he finally retired in 2011.
The Millennium was originally conceived as an educational, rental and screening space for New York filmmakers and it was Guttenplan who really expanded the foundation’s exhibition program through the “Personal Cinema” series that brought visionary media makers from all over the world to screen their work.
In addition to running the Millennium Film Workshop, Guttenplan was also a filmmaker himself who worked primarily on “diary” films, such as San Francisco Diary ’79 (Shadow Trail) (1980), European Diary ’79 (Criss-crossings) (1980), and N. Y. C. Diary ’74 (1974); all...

The central visual in Alex Gibney's documentary "Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence In The House of God" is one both powerful and distressing -- that of its subjects delivering their impassioned testimonials to the camera in eloquent sign language. They fought to bring to light the sexual abuse inflicted on them by a priest as children attending Wisconsin's St. John School for the Deaf in what is the first known protest against clerical sex abuse in the U.S., the response to which and the larger, devastating problem of cover-ups Gibney traces all the way up to the highest reaches of the Catholic Church. Terry Kohut, Gary Smith, Arthur Budzinksi and Bob Bolger absolutely found ways to make themselves heard, but the added layer of vulnerability to their situation as boys makes the terrible breach of trust all the more apparent. These were kids with, often, no one to communicate...

I’m sure you already remember our previous report about the upcoming indie comedy titled 10 Things I Hate About Life. The movie already stars Evan Rachel Wood, Janet Montgomery and Thomas McDonnell, and today we’re here to add another great name to that list ’cause we’ve just learned that Billy Campbell has joined the project as well!
So, as you already know, the movie (currently shooting in Los Angeles) comes from director Gil Junger, and follows a young woman (Wood) and man (McDonnell) who meet while attempting to commit suicide at the same jumping-off point.
But, apparently, that’s just the beginning of the story and things get complicated when the McDonnell’s ex-girlfriend re-enters his life just as his budding rock band is on the verge of signing a record deal.

Team news ahead of Stevenage and Tottenham Hotspur’s Fa Cup fifth-round tie at the Broadhall Way. Kick-off is at 2pm and the match is televised live on ITV 1 in the UK.
Stevenage manager Gary Smith has no fresh injury concerns ahead of this afternoon’s match, easily the biggest of the season. Smith, whose brave and hard-working side knocked out Newcastle United in the last round, are likely to stick with the same XI that beat Sheffield Wednesday this past Tuesday… likely meaning a start for former Spurs ‘keeper Chris Day.
One player that isn’t at Smith’s disposal is Chuks Aneke, who is on-loan from Arsenal and under the terms of the transfer is not able to play in the competition for the League One side.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp won’t be able to call upon Rafael Van Der Vaart who failed a fitness test over his calf injury.

Last week, the American Academy of Pediatrics called for the redesign of hot dogs. "If you were to take the best engineers in the world and asked them to design a perfect plug for a child's airway, you couldn't do better than a hot dog," said Dr. Gary Smith, former chairman of the Aap's Committee on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention. "When it's wedged in tightly, that child is going to die." Never ones to resist a challenge, or the chance to play with our food, we carved out a little time to explore the redesign of the hot dog.
We began by thinking outside the bun. What other ways could we come up with for hot dog delivery? Looking for inspirations from food innovations like GoGurt and Push Pops, we briefly toyed with the idea of a semi-solid hot-dog paste...a Push-Pup, if you will, not unlike the Sushi Popper.

On the heels of the Hulk and Linda Hogan divorce fall-out, multiple rounds of inflammatory verbal barbs are being shot at Linda by some of Hulk's fiercest supporters. In recent weeks, bullish remarks from the former WWF star and radio personality friend Bubba the Love Sponge have stirred up anti-Linda sentiment and prompted online assaults from 'Bubba's Army'.
Hulk's heated on-air comments are part of a recent media campaign seemingly designed to vilify his ex-wife. When recalling the maddening aftermath of his divorce battle, the pro wrestling star told Rolling Stone "I totally understand O.J." Hulk later apologized for mirroring his personal turmoil with that of the Simpson double murder case.
Linda responded that constant battering from Hulk fans is "disturbing". Through a recent press statement, she pleaded, "I'm simply trying to move on with my life and these people won't let me live in peace. I just want them to leave me alone.

Hulk Hogan is calling for his estranged wife to take another drugs test, because he can't believe her recent results came back negative.
The tough guy demanded Linda Bollea undergo a full evaluation after she claimed to have caught the star - real name Terry Bollea - "rolling and smoking joints" with their daughter Brooke’s boyfriend.
Hogan denied the allegations and used a radio interview to offer Linda $100,000 (£66,666) to undergo a full drug screening to prove she wasn't using illegal substances herself.
Earlier this month his former partner "tested negative for everything", including amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine and opiates such as Vicodin, morphine and heroin, according to her representative Gary Smith.
But Hogan insists the test is invalid because it wasn't legally supervised.
In a statement he says, "Linda Hogan's drug test is absolutely meaningless without proper tracking and verification. If Linda Hogan wants the world and the courts to believe that this is a valid drug test, she must prove that it was a legally supervised medical test taken at random.
"The document she distributed to the media states that she took a medical test which means that she took a urine test with no verification of urine's source. Anyone can walk into a clinic and take a test, but without supervision we only have her word to go on and that is questionable.
"If Linda wanted us to believe she was clean, she should have taken advantage of the $100,000 offer by a national radio show for a random legally supervised drug test as opposed to the farce she has perpetrated upon the public."...
