The 60th Cinema Audio Society Awards named Universal’s Oppenheimer the winner of its marquee Live Action Motion Picture category Saturday at its annual ceremony honoring the year’s best in feature film and TV sound mixing.
The victory gives the Christopher Nolan epic about the creator of the atomic bomb a leg up leading into the Oscars; it is nominated in Sound category among its leading 13 overall nominations.
This year’s marquee Cas Live Action Motion Picture category featured sound artisans from two of the five of this year’s Best Sound Oscar nominees in Oppenheimer and Netflix’s Maestro. They were joined in tonight’s race by Warner Bros’ Barbie, Neon’s Ferrari and Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon.

The show’s wave of Emmys love arrives on the heels of a highly-acclaimed second season, but these awards are for Season 1, which premiered in 2022. On January 7, “The Bear” took home three Golden Globes, for White, Edibiri, and Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy.

We’ve come a long way, baby. But we’re finally ready to start handing out the 2023 Emmy Awards, a full four months after they were initially scheduled. The successful resolutions of two strikes later, the winners of the Creative Arts Emmys will be announced on January 6 (scripted programming) and January 7 (non-scripted programming), starting at 8 p.m. Et, prior to an edited broadcast of the ceremonies airing on Fxx January 13.
Just how long have the 2023 Emmys been in the making? Well, nominees include “The White Lotus,” which hasn’t aired since December 2022. Likewise, Hulu’s “Fire Island,” “Welcome to Chippendales,” and “Hocus Pocus 2” (remember that?!) are all among the TV projects nominated, as well as more recent shows like “Poker Face.”

When approaching the sound for FX/Hulu’s The Bear, showrunner Christopher Storer had a clear vision of what he wanted: utter chaos. That directive for the series helped propel the sound editing and mixing teams to two of The Bear‘s 13 Emmy nominations this year.
Production sound mixer Scott D. Smith, responsible for recording sound on set, had his work cut out for him. “Working in the kitchens is definitely a challenge [in part] due to the amount of noise being made during the scene. There really isn’t too much you can do about it,” he explains. “The pots and pans and all the props that they need — those aren’t things you can fake easily with something that’s a little quieter. They’re pretty much doing what they’d normally do in a kitchen.”
Additionally, Smith says there are very few rehearsals on the show. “Chris likes to really keep things fresh,...

The Emmys served up 13 nominations on a silver platter for FX’s The Bear Wednesday morning. Among them was a nod for Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his turn as Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) cousin Richie Jeremovich.
Like many nominees, Moss-Bachrach was alerted to his nomination when he was inundated with messages of congratulations from friends, co-stars, and others. In fact, the actor told Deadline he was “going for a nice evening swim with my beautiful wife” on vacation when he heard the news.
This marks Moss-Bachrach’s first Emmy nomination, though he says that the accolade feels more like a group effort, shouting out creator Chris Storer, fellow acting nominees Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, as well as casting director Jeanie Bacharach and sound mixing team Steve Giammaria and Scott D. Smith.
“I’m so excited that it’s a group recognition.

At long last the mother father is revealed! Sources confirm to me exclusively that comic goofball Chris Elliott has landed the pivotal role of Lily's estranged dad on How I Met Your Mother. The highly-anticipated family reunion is slated to air Nov. 23 when father and daughter come face-to-face at a Thanksgiving celebration hosted by Lily's grandparents. I'm told the episode will feature childhood flashbacks that will shed light on Lily's very troubled relationship with her father. Word is the dude was a big-time loser/crook, which makes Elliott's casting pretty perfect if you ask me. You agree? Sound off in the comments!
