Plot: Infected by the bite of a werewolf, a man sets out to bring down a shady businessman before arranging the end of his own life.
Review: Larry Fessenden has over 100 acting credits to his name, and if you’ve been following the horror genre over the last few decades there’s a good chance you’ve seen him show up in something, whether it be a Ti West movie, Stake Land, Late Phases, You’re Next, or the movie I first noticed him in, Session 9. He’s also a prolific producer, and has directing credits stretching back to the 1980s – most of those credits being on horror movies. Over the course of his career, he has told stories of vampires, the Wendigo, a man-eating fish, and even came up with his own take on Frankenstein’s Monster with his 2019 film Depraved. Continuing down the path of putting his stamp on the concept of classic monsters,...

"I guess I don't understand why the customer would want to sweep up their own crumbs?" Good question. Glass Eye Pictures has revealed a teaser trailer for an indie dark comedy called Crumb Catcher, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Chris Skotchdopole. This is premiering at Fantastic Fest down in Austin, Texas this week, with no official release date set yet - only more festivals. A newlywed couple is held captive in a remote lake house by a maniacally optimistic inventor and his sour wife who are desperate to finance his dream project with a half-baked blackmail plot. Fantastic Fest describe it as "a chamber piece that melds extreme anxiety with the worst salesmanship imaginable. Every single character is hilariously despicable in their own way, and each motivated by selfishness and ego." Starring Rigo Garay, Ella Rae Peck, John Speredakos, Lorraine Farris, and Rebecca Watson. Keep an eye out for this sneaky film.

Unicorn Wars: "It’s Bambi meets Apocalypse Now in this provocative and strangely beautiful horror comedy from acclaimed filmmaker and illustrator Alberto Vazquez (Birdboy: The Forgotten Children), who uses its outrageous candy-colored premise to explore religious zealotry, the tortured legacies of military fascism, and the depths of the soul.
For ages, teddy bears have been locked in an ancestral war against their sworn enemy, the unicorns, with the promise that victory will complete the prophecy and usher in a new era. Aggressive, confident teddy bear Bluet and his sensitive, withdrawn brother Tubby could not be more different. As the rigors and humiliation of teddy bear bootcamp turn to the psychedelic horrors of a combat tour in the Magic Forest, their complicated history and increasingly strained relationship will come to determine the fate of the entire war."

The film wrapped principal photography in the fall in New York’s Hudson Valley and will hit the festival circuit later this year.
Blackout marks the second pairing of Glass Eye Pix, the New York production shingle headed by Fessenden, and Yellow Veil Pictures, having previously collaborated successfully on world sales for Fessenden’s 2019 Depraved, which was released by IFC Midnight in the US to great acclaim.
The film follows a fine-arts painter convinced he is a werewolf wreaking havoc on a small American town every full moon. It is the latest addition to Fessenden’s own Monsterverse, along with his breakout feature, the vampire-themed Independent Spirit Award-Winning feature Habit (1995) and 2019’s Frankenstein riff, Depraved.

Yellow Veil Pictures announced it has boarded world sales on Larry Fessenden’s upcoming horror film “Blackout,” and also released the film’s first teaser poster. The film, which is currently in post-production, will begin the festival circuit later in 2023 after finishing its photography in Hudson Valley, New York this past fall.
“Blackout” depicts a painter who, convinced he is a werewolf, creates chaos in a small town at each full moon.
The horror film joins Fessenden’s own “monsterverse,” with the New York-based actor and filmmaker’s vampire-themed breakout feature “Habit” (1995) and Frankenstein-inspired “Depraved” (2019).
“Blackout” is the second partnership between Yellow Veil Pictures, a New York City and Los Angeles-based film sales and distribution company, and Glass Eye Pix, an American independent film studio Fessenden founded where he serves as CEO. The two joined forces on world sales for “Depraved,” which was released by IFC Midnight in the United States.

Back in 2014 first-time director Joe Begos exploded on the horror scene with Almost Human, an alien abduction movie drenched in 80s flair. Now he’s back with his second feature, Supernatural Forces aka The Mind’s Eye, another film that’s not afraid to wear its love of 80s horror on its sleeve. In this case referencing the work of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and films like the Scanners franchise, Carrie and the classic telekinetic fear flick The Fury.
Confession time: I’m not the biggest fan of David Cronenberg’s Scanners. If not for exploding head scene and the final battle between Revok and Vale, the film would be a very dull futuristic thriller.

"My understanding is we've got a bit of a situation..." A trailer has debuted for a film titled Stray Bullets, from young filmmaker Jack Fessenden, son of Larry Fessenden. Jack Fessenden stars along with Asa Spurlock, including James Le Gros, John Speredakos, and Kevin Corrigan, with an appearance by Larry Fessenden. Writer/director Joe Begos’ second genre effort, The Mind’s Eye, feels like it could have been an early ’90s spin-off from the world of Scanners, with the up-and-coming filmmaker wearing his influences proudly on his sleeve. However, the difference between The Mind’s Eye and other recent projects that evoke feelings of grungy horror nostalgia, is that Begos never relies too heavily on our love of the movies of yesteryear, instead creating a film that can stand proudly on its own two feet.
That being said, there are aspects of The Mind’s Eye that are a bit rough around the edges, and one of the film’s actors almost derails the whole effort, but by and large, Begos’ latest feature is an ambitious throwback telekinetic tale that’s explosively fun and a solid step forward for Begos as a visual storyteller.

Between Midnight Special, Netflix’s Stranger Things, and now Joe Begos’ The Mind’s Eye — a virtual remake of David Cronenberg’s 1981 film Scanners — the ’80s genre landscape has gotten substantial representation on 2016’s screens. But whereas the first two cleave closer to the Spielbergian trademark of generating wonder through restraint, Begos dives headfirst into nastiness and excess, sharing some of Stranger Things’ Carpenter DNA while fitting the title of the Jeff Nichols’ picture better than its actual owner. Indeed, The Mind’s Eye is midnight movie material, a film whose nightmarish bloodletting surpasses disgusting to skirt on the edge of the sublime. As cinema, the film’s influence likely won’t last given the disproportionate amount of time and energy it spends on revisiting old body horror tropes instead of crafting compelling characters and an original story. Still, emerging from the aesthetic doldrums summer cinema typically brings, the sheer...

While Almost Human marked a memorable feature debut for up-and-comer Joe Begos, The Mind’s Eye represents an unfortunate step backwards. The film feels more like a first-time effort built on unsteady ground, stumbling over a minefield of miscues that rarely pull together the tight, fluid terrors of Almost Human. This psychokinetic Scanners homage falls into a repetition of cut-rate effects and low-budget confidence, constantly failing to marry either aspect with Begos’ passionate respect for a genre he clearly adores and respects. It all sounds great on paper, like an aggressive cut of The Men Who Stare At Goats, but actors scrunching their faces while “emitting brainwave attacks” can only entertain for so long…

Whoa! Rlj Entertainment has released a crazy first trailer for Joe Begos' new body-horror / psychological thriller The Mind's Eye, which won Best Horror Director at Fantastic Fest last year. Graham Skipper plays Zack Connors, and Lauren Ashley Carter plays Rachel Meadows, two people born with "incredible psychokinetic capabilities" who are hunted by a doctor that wants to harvest their powers. The cast includes John Speredakos, Larry Fessenden, Noah Segan and Matt Mercer. The film has been described as an homage to the early films of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and the poster has a quote calling it "the best Scanners sequel we never got." This definitely looks trippy and weird, and perfect for a late night. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Joe Begos' The Mind's Eye, direct from YouTube: Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. If ever there was to be a Mt. Rushmore of modern horror, there’s no question that the face of Larry Fessenden would get prominent placement. One of the patron saints of indie horror, Fessenden is a true auteur and a true original whose incredible career is now being celebrated with the Scream Factory release of The Larry Fessenden Collection, containing four of his films and hours of bonus features that help illuminate just what a vital voice Fessenden has been in the genre for more than three decades. This is one of the best horror releases of the year.
Fessenden (whose Glass Eye Pix has been around since the mid-’80s, helping produce films including The House of the Devil, I Sell the Dead, Stake Land and Late Phases) has built a career on twisting and subverting the conventions of classic horror films and filtering them through his own distinctive lens.

When any filmmaker with a well-received first film heads into their next project, the threat of the sophomore slump has to weigh heavily on their heads. Joe Begos' first film, Almost Human, was a lovingly crafted homage to the low-budget films of the 1980's and while The Mind's Eye, his follow-up feature, doesn't step backward, there is no real forward motion either. Instead of the sophomore slump, The Mind's Eye is more of a sophomore stasis, a film that simply repeats the low-fi charms of Begos' debut. Graham Skipper stars as Zack, a psychokinetic drifter who ends up arrested after an altercation with an aggressive pair of cops. He's released into the custody of Dr. Slovak (John Speredakos), who takes Zack to a secretive facility...

One of the reasons I try to see the Toronto midnight movies at the actual midnight screenings is because those audiences are positively bloodthirsty. They are there because they want red meat. They want to scream and groan and cheer, but not every night is programmed that way. Colin Geddes, the madman behind Midnight Madness, designs that schedule so there are some ups and downs and a mix of different energies. One of the movies that played most aggressively with the audience, satisfying exactly what they wanted, was "The Mind's Eye," the newest film from the same team who brought "Almost Human" to the festival a few years ago. Joe Begos and Josh Ethier and Zak Zeman are the ultimate expression of those kids who remade "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" or that dude who remade "Rambo" in one room, pastiche artists who make greatest hits versions of the films they love.

Glass Eye Pix and Alexander Groupe have just released the first trailer and poster for Darling, the new film by Mickey Keating, which will have its world premiere at the 11th edition of Fantastic Fest.
The psychological horror film follows a lonely young woman who moves into an old, mysterious Manhattan mansion. Hired as a caretaker, it’s not long before she discovers the estate’s haunted reputation and troubling past. These stories slowly transform into a backdrop for her twisted and violent descent into madness…
The trailer gives us a good idea of what to expect — Mickey Keating’s Darling is edited like a nightmare and scored like a hallucination by composer Giona Ostinelli, and word is, the film accomplishes terror of a completely different kind.
